This is the best decision for him and the club. Having Aidan Stone on our books but not playing is never going to do his confidence any good. Itโ€™s funny how Sam Slocombe was phased out last season, and now itโ€™s his replacement.

Footballs a funny old game, can go from not being wanted to be part of the plans. ????

To be honest I never thought he was that convincing. I can't recall him making a proper dive or really getting off the ground.

I think its a good move for him to get some game time and hopefully build confidence. Although I do think Notts should have a third keeper, whether that's Slocombe at second or third and I still think that we should have kept Brooks.

    @Pies79

I'm in full agreement with you regarding Tiernan Brookes, Notts Should have kept hold of him, having both him and Bass at the Club I feel would have pushed both players forward. However Tiernan may have sought the move wanting to be first choice or the Club decided to do what they normally do and sell the young Notts Talent for an Undisclosed Fee.

Hi everyone, when you read this I'll (hopefully) be sunning myself on the beach, but, thanks to the magic of technology, here are the next prediction league fixtures! However, I'll very probably be late in posting your results for this round. So here we go - these all kick off at 3pm on Saturday, and don't forget your joker!

ย

Luton Town v Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield United v Derby County

Bolton Wanderers v Reading

Peterborough United v Bristol Rovers

Bradford City v AFC Wimbledon

Salford City v Walsall

Hartlepool United v Dagenham & Redbridge

Oldham Athletic v Yeovil Town

The final match of the season sees Notts wanting at least a draw & 2 bonus points to avoid the risk of being relegated.

No Not Me, I have Nothing but admiration for the Ex-Notts Manager. These are the words of Former Sunderland Goal Keeper Costel Pantilimon who played under Big Sam in 2015/2016. Despite Allardyce's tactics earning him praise and many admirers for his ability to pick up Results and then save the Black Cats from what appeared certain Relegation, his Romanian Keeper wasn't a Fan of what he called Big Sam's Strange Style Of Football.ย

It wasn't the fact after 17 games that Allardyce replaced Pantilimon with Vito Mannone then Costel, No Sour Grapes? Apparently the Romanian wasn't a fan of being given a day off from Training either, which was something else he found Strange. The thing is there may have been Sunderland Fans who didn't like the way Big Sam set his team up or even his Style of play but if it Stopped Sunderland from Going down, when it seemed Relegation was almost a fore gone Conclusion it didn't matter what Tactics of Strange Style of Football Big Sam got his team to play.

It was after his stint at Sunderland Sam Allardyce became the England Manager, but was forced to Resign after 67 days in Charge after the Daily Telegraph Sting, which was a Disgrace, because I think Big Sam would have been a Good National Side Manager. And after his fall out with Allardyce, Pantilimon moved to Watford where he made a Mere 9 appearances, so Costel maybe you weren't replaced at Sunderland because you hated Big Sam's Strange Style Of Football, more than likely it was because you were a Lousy Keeper.

Right my fellow PON Members I'm going to have to ask for some help on this one. There's been a New Cup tournament Invented brought about or such, that being the National League Cup, to be played between National League sides and Premier u21 sides. Much to the Chagrin of a few of the National League sides. This got me thinking, what about all those Trophies that used to be around but are No longer played for? Some that I name may still be played for but under another name, so with your help lets see how Many Missing Trophies we can come up with.

The Anglo/Italian Cup. Had to be number 1, as this Trophy sits in the Trophy Cabinet at Meadow Lane.ย

The Anglo/Scottish Cup. I'm not sure this was a Competition, it's just I seem to remember Derby being involved in it in the 1970's.

The Watney Cup. Another Trophy Competition I remember Derby being apart of in fact I believe they were the First ever Winners.

The Fairs Cup. This Trophy may have a different name now, but if memory serves this was the first European Trophy won by Don Revie Leeds side.

The Intertoto Cup. This European Trophy also may now have a Different name.

The Home Internationals Championship. Played for by the Home Countries of England Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland.

The County Cup. A trophy which always seemed to involve the Magpies and the Red Dogs across the Trent. This Trophy was played for long before I became a Notts Fan. I don't know if any other teams were involved or Not.

The Brian Clough Memorial Trophy. I know after Cloughie's Death Derby and Forest used to play for this Cup. I Don't Know if it Still Is?

Well there you have my fellow PON Members. Apologies if I've got any wrong or you know that the Trophies are still played for but under a New Name. I'd be Interested to know of any other Trophies that used to have place on the Footballing Calendar but are No Longer contested.

Notts were beaten by Chesterfield in the final, how can you not remember that?????

In terms of when Notts were in administration, there was a legal duty on the Administrator to sell ANY asset the club has. That includes historical memorabilia.

    @Piethagoram

In answer to your questions. Regarding remembering Derby taking part in the Anglo/ Scottish Cup, I remember the Rams playing a Scottish and Derby Keeper Colin Boulton was fouled rather badly by a Scottish Forward ( don't remember his name or team). Colin got up and laid him out with one Punch. My Mum was so shocked, she just said OOH he's just Hit Him. And if memory serves the only thing which happened to Boulton was he got a Talking too by the Ref, Not Even A Yellow Card.

As to your second Question, Back in the 1970's I was a Young Innocent Lad who hadn't met his future Notts Supporting Wife and at the time I hadn't been seduced into following the Magpies????

Mauricio Pochettino former Spurs and Chelsea Head Coach and a possible early front Runner to Replace Gareth Southgate as England Manager, has been appointed as the Head Coach of the United States National Side. It will be Interesting to see how he Coaches the side, if he will Adopt the European Style of Football or Pep ball the Expansive brand of Football or Go in a Completely Different Direction? The thing is does the American National Side have the required Skillful Players to play the European Way, or will Poch have to Mix things Up?

Thoughts?

  • Show previous comments  5 more
  • I donโ€™t understand the appointment myself. I think there are far more suitable managers for the national job of the United States, but I wish him well. Itโ€™s going to be hard for him.

    @Wheelbarrow repair man

    Just looking at his wiki.

And haven't we seen this style employed all over the English game, even a Nottsย

"Pochettino favours a very high-pressing, attacking style of football. He often employs aย 4โ€“2โ€“3โ€“1 formationย at the clubs he manages.

While doing so, he instructs his team to build from the back, intimidate & unsettle opponents with a quick-press system and work the ball into the box."

It just begs the perennial question.

Is this the style that is the be the all or end all from now on, or can the English style make a comeback in our game?

"The English style of football is simple and easy to implement, & the British philosophy is to get the ball up to the forwards as soon as possible.ย The ideal British striker is physically strong, aggressive, and can power their way past defenses".

According to Super Agent Jon Smith (one of the Co-Creators of the Premier League) as said that theย  case of the115 charges against Manchester City needs to be Allowed as Much Time asย  is needed for Arguments to be heard and Legal and Financial Ramifications Understood. Any Decision is Going to be Difficult to Come to.

Which comes Across to this writer that, if the Case Drags on and on People will lose interest in it and get Fed up hearing about it and the the Whole 115 charges will be Quietly Dropped and Swept under the Carpet. Or just to save Face City will probably get Deducted a Few Points and be Given a Hefty Fine, of a Couple of Million Pounds ( Which is Pea Nuts to their Present Owner) then Justice will Appear to have Been Done. They wont get Relegated Nor Will They have any of Their Titles Or Trophies Taken From Them. Because There Is One Rule For The Rich Premier League Clubs and Another for All Other Clubs.

I don't think there's anything which is going to Stop the Split of Football in this Country (Eventually). As you yourself have commented, there will one day be a European Super League and I Agree Whole Heartedly with you, it's only a Matter of Time. The Premier League's Big Six will Go their Own Way, and they will also take a Huge Majority of the Money with them, from both Sky and Major Sponsorship.

So will the Premier League Bend Over Backwards in hope of Trying to keep the likes of Manchester City in the Premiership?ย  By coming to some sort of Agreement with the League Champions? Such has a Small Points deduction and a Few Million Pound Fine and perhaps a Transfer Embargo? Because I think that the Premier League needs Manchester City more that Manchester City need the Premier League.

has it been made public what all the charges are?

i am aware that they have overspent etc, i also remember reading something about them doing what chelsea did that earned them an embargo due to loaning out and signing you talent.

  • I Enjoy watching these old Matches. A time when Football wasn't just about Money and Greedy Agents hadn't got their sticky Fingers involved in the Game.

I also liked the Notts kit, proper Black & White Stripes on the Shirts, which in certain parts in the video lookedย  Dark Blue, when the Camera went for a Close Up.

Brilliant memories of a very good Notts team that defended well to keep the win intact. I would have been there, somewhere in the main stand then. Coming back is what that team was all about. Eric McManus was a good keeper! I donโ€™t think he could see the first goal until it was too late. It wasnโ€™t a lack of concentration like Hugh Johns claimed.

Notts Women take a midweek trip to Barnsley on Thursday to play Barnsley in a National League match kick off 19:45.

After a Humiliating 5th round Knock against fellow Brit Daniel Dubois, what is there left for Former World Boxing Champion Anthony Joshua?ย

A.J. Suffered the fourth defeat of his career last Saturday and to me he looked Completely Washed Up, he seemed to offer Nothing against the Younger More Hungry Dubois. It seemed that there was only going to be one Winner in this Fight, from the Very First Round. Joshua did manage to land a couple of Good Punches during the Fight, But Dubois shook them off and moved in to Destroy the Poor looking Joshua.

Frank Warren Dubois Promotor wants a match with the other World Boxing Belts Holder Oleksandr Usyk. But first Usyk must face a Rematch with the Gypsy King Tyson Fury, which should be an interesting encounter. There was a Rumor that Fury had fallen off the Wagon again ( a reference that Fury may have gone back on the Drugs and Booze, which resulted to him being stripped of his license the first time) after his Defeat by Usyk a Fight most people thought he was clearly Winning, before he started getting Cocky and started Showboating and got caught by a Usykย  punch which Rocked him and turned the Fight's advantage to the Ukrainian. Is the Rumor True? Will the fight Happen? Time will tell.

A.J. as vowed to carry on Fighting Why? So he can become a Shuffling Journeyman who gets knocked from Pillar to Post when Promotorsย  use him as a Punch Bag stepping stone for their Promising up and coming Heavy Weight Fighters? Give it Up A.J.ย  while you've still got your health, millions in the Bank and Nothing to Prove. • Tyson Fury wrote a book titled the Furious Method, which was Published in 2020.It is a Self Help Book full of Inspirational Advice For Readers on how to Improve both their Physical and Mental Health. According to Critics. The Book was a Commercial Success and is on the Sunday Times Best Sellers List.

Not Bad For A Simpleton Eh?

anthony joshua should continue to see what fights open up for him and see how things come about, as he could make a return to the top again but it would require focus. the thing boxing is there is ups and downs, even with the very best but its how they cope when handling set backs that makes things count.

That doesnโ€™t make him a genius though. If you are aware of how he speaks and acts, you will have realised he has a very limited vocabulary. Writing a book as a famous person would most likely sell.

There have been many celebrities considered to be not quite smart, to be polite, who have written more than one book to land on the best sellers list. Making a fool out of yourself in Morecambe, after losing a big fight that you claimed in a press conference you had won, and saying people only gave the win because his opponentโ€™s nationality is at war, further highlights the lack of brain cells.

  • Was half expecting to see Colt Construction listed on the wiki page as a club given he moved to America and played over there!ย ????

Iโ€™ve looked a few up, in their second division they have teams named El Paso Locomotive, Charleston Battery and Oakland Roots. They sound like industries not football teams!

He was a nice lad, but I don't think he had the drive to make a career within the EFL.

It wasn't so much his ability; I think he was quite nervous as a player and due to that he never pushed himself. I do think his time at Notts was a waste though. Being the son of a famous player has some weight, but I think an exceptional manager is needed to get the most out of players like Jack Barmby.

As you go through Life Don't you get asked some Daft Questions? For example.

When you go to the Doctors, what the first thing a Doc asks you?

Hello how are you today? And you can bet you answer or have answered.

Fine thankyou. They why the hell are you at the Doctor's?

You're off on holiday, as you go through Customs they ask

As anybody you don't know put anything in your bags? I Don't Know anybody I Don't Know.

Or as a Strangerย  given you anything? I once went on a Stag Weekend to Amsterdam.

So what's the Daftest Question, You've been asked?

When I first noticed you'd mentioned me in my Notifications, I wondered How can that be? I haven't even viewed the video. Then I read your comment and watched the video. Ah you know me so well, then again I'm I that obvious?????

Well if the Defense is going to Fanny about playing Tippy Tappy Football in Dangerous areas, then they Deserve all they get. How many times did Notts Do something Similar last season? It just amazes me, both the defender and Keeper could see the Danger of attacking opposition players either that or they were playing with their Eyes shut. What should they have Done ? Even kids in the infant school would know.ย  What should the Defender have done Children? If in Doubt Kick It Out Miss.

Yikes, it's a common issue with playing the ball out of the back.

Alex Bass isn't afraid to boot the ball up, which is the right decision if you are being pressed. One of the defenders must have realised they were passing themselves into danger? The own goal is such an owler.

  • They don't call it ungentlemanly conduct anymore. It's a professional foul now.

    Googled it.

"If a goalkeeper handles the ball outside of their penalty area,ย it's a handball offense that's penalised with a direct free kick.ย The goalkeeper may also receive a yellow card if a promising attack was stopped, or a red card if a goal or goal-scoring opportunity was denied".

    I agree with,ย @liampie.

Sometimes back then the paint wasn't very good, so it was a lot more difficult in the heat of the moment to check your positioning. It's funny how he wasn't booked, but I do think the referee made a smart choice. I think things like this lead to stricter rules though, where the decision is less about the ref's thoughts and more down to the rules exactly as they are written.

  • its a good signing for boreham wood, issue for me is not his ability or how he performs but he just has not settled. the aberdeen move seemed like a dream move, but i think it happened to early for him. he would have done better to sign for a league two team, get minutes and more experience and stay settled for a few seasons before making the step up. he never seems to settle, so how does consistency come?

stockport did not really make use of him, same at colchester. this is his chance to do that.ย

I would say it's a mixture of not playing regularly and Jayden Richardson not applying himself, it's difficult for young players to find their feet once they leave their parent club - especially after being loaned out a lot. He really should have signed for a team that would play him, then show commitment to them by avoiding transfer's like the one he had to Aberdeen.

I fully understand why he went, it was a massive opportunity and clearly the move came from his time with us - as they signed Cal Roberts too.

Hopefully, he will now settle at Boreham Wood.

  • We've been over this Time and Time Again Gentlemen/Ladies regarding the Notts Academy Players and their advancement into the Notts Senior Squad and then into the Starting XI. Does anyone Honestly believe that any of these players will get their Chance? I for one would like to think so, but over the Years Talented Young players just get Shipped Out on Loan to learn how to play Men's Football and then they're Never Heard from again, until the Contract is up and they're let go, or if they're Lucky Sold on for the elusive Undisclosed Fee.

Kudos to Stuart for having the Belief in his Young players and having the Backbone, to play them during the Match, as it's been said they all must be on Cloud 9 today The Only thing to put a Dampner on things is, if he decides to repeat the Process and Notts get Thumped, then the Calls of does SM know what he's Doing playing all these young Kids? Why didn't play a Team who had a chance. Sure Most Members on Here couldn't be bothered about this Trophy saying it's a waste of time, and extra games Notts could do without but it's Great Opportunity for Stuart to Blood His Young Players, but a Big Defeat will start the Moaning Minnie's off Again. Personally I'll say Keep Doing What You're Doing Stuart.

@Wheelbarrow repair manย Notts won last night didn't they? The academy players played very well

    Let's celebrate that.

Stuart won't play five of them in a league match and put unnecessary pressure on them against a full strength opposition.

Remember, Burton played a weakened team too, & only changed their tune when it looked liked they would lose the match.ย

Stuart will carefully manage all of those youngsters & I'm confident he will do that.

Those youngsters worked damn hard last night, & deserved the all plaudits they all got.ย

I am pleased with the win. The EFL Trophy doesnโ€™t mean much to me, but I am delighted that Stuart Maynard gave several youngsters a chance. They performed well, especially against more experienced players. Robbie Cundy doesnโ€™t seem to be the best signing weโ€™ve made.

  • I normally always take a picture of the attendance that is shown on the scoreboard, yesterday, I didn't. It seems strange thinking back that I didn't, but then again, I stopped taking pictures after the Sam Austin goal was ruled out - possibly before that. I remember hearing the announcement, just not the amount.

It could just be written off as the officials and frustration lead to the mistake, it's easily done. Maybe a note or message was given incorrectly? Upon reviewing my photos, I noticed that Meadow Lane appears bustling in areas that typically wouldn't see such activity, even with a crowd of 11,000.

If Gillingham took just under 1000, leaving 4000 empty seats in the Sirrel stand, that means there'll have been just 1000 empty seats in the rest of the ground. It will have looked full and there wouldn't have been any empty sections at all.

I'm far away in a sunny place so I really don't know, but the Lane has a habit of looking fuller than it actually is. But even 11,000 would be an outstanding crowd.ย

Bad news for Notts. Curtis Edwards likely to be out until Xmas.

  • Such a disappointing injury to see happen. I wouldnโ€™t have thought he was injured until the club announced it. I think they wanted to beat the media rounds, but I am curious how long they knew he wouldnโ€™t be coming back any time soon. It seems a bit of a while between Accrington, then Bromley, to now, even if they were waiting for the full results. I wish him well though; heโ€™s been a great signing.

At least we know itโ€™s his ankle ligaments. Hopefully, it wonโ€™t be as punishing as damage to his muscles or a break would have been. When he comes back, he will continue to make a difference. He has impressed, and I thought we missed him against Gillingham.
