It seems that the South African outfit have been in London today according to the evening post having crunch talks about the sale of Notts if successful. Notts County are looking to bring in former QPR assistant manager Marc Bircham to help county identify new players for next season.

A proper scouting network could pay for itself, there is no reason why 2-3 people can't do this. Split it amongst the coaching staff, it's been a loss to Notts missing out on Tommy Johnson.

Mark Draper did well when he was here too.

I would love to pass on my recommendations to the club, then for actual scouts to track them. I think it would be useful as we don't really have a scouting network. Did you know John Barnes was scouted by a taxi driver prior to signing for Watford? I don't think everyone could do it, I might not be that good, but I think it's a worthy shout to cut costs. Many of our fans watch a lot of football.

i have to say its all sounding very good from the south african buyers, they seem to know what they want and how to go about it. my only fears is that it sounds a lot like munto, being people in and if we start getting linked to legends or ex internationals i will start to worry.

but in all fairness it sounds good, the club needs a proper setup.

not something that looks operational on the outside but when you look at it properly you see loose wires and sparks flying everywhere.

If he can do the job well and can spot a player, it could be a good coup. I would hope it's not because he played for QPR, rather what he brings to the club and table.

It's too early to say if this or isn't a good thing, on paper it all seems very good.

I would like the new owners to bring back that Notts connection to the staff, coaches and ground officials.

I don't understand the "won't hold an official title", it sounds almost like a mercenary.

Otherwise I would agree it sounds good, the club needs scouts and a proper system in place. If the consortium has the money, they should look to secure a training ground and look to profit any area of the club.

Notts needs staff that can identify with the club itself, if he has no official connection or role. I think his findings may not be conclusive for this club. 

I'm actually pleased to see that they are thinking things through before it happens, it shows professionalism and planning on their part. Provided the club can find affordable talent, I think this would be a good idea.

If he’s good at finding players, give him an official title and a contract which can ensure he can be kept by the club. Notts needs a proper scouting network.
