Cup or Promotion?

Featured Replies

Would you rather us win the FA Trophy and miss out on promotion?Β

Or is promotion the main thing to achieve?

Obviously it'd be nice to get both but I feel like we may need another season to progress due to the ups and downs this season.Β

Yes, I agree about improvement but I am not sure that is about Cup :)

Trophy Cup is more about satisfaction. I think so.

@NottsTasticΒ I would love both, I'm not saying we can't achieve both. I'm saying given the choice as in which one would you rather focus on?

@JIMBOΒ fair point mate, I just feel like we could benefit from going up as you say revenue but given the ups and downs this season do we need just one more season to keep the rebuild?

If anyone says the cup, I'm sorry but I'll pinch @GrannyPieΒ walking sticks and wack them.

It's got to be the league.

I have enough faith if promotion is earned, that the team can be improved and I think it would benefit certain players. Mitch Rose might return to being a better player, but Tom Crawford may come into his own.

@CliftonMagpieΒ I feel like we may need more time to build but it could mean us going up to strengthen tbf or it might be that we need another season here.Β

@allardyces tashΒ understandable it's just the case of which is better to strengthen reallyΒ

I would take the league, it means more and if the club don't go up sooner or later, I do question how long some of the supporters will remain coming to games? It makes more sense to focus on where the club can actually progress.

I'm all for the league, however, I can admit I didn't take the contest all that seriously but now the club is on the verge of the final - I do feel it's worth taking seriously.

If I could choose one, then the league takes priority over all.

The focus as to be on the league, as we have limited time with some of the players and I mean we do have some great prospects. Would I rather advance with the likes of Cal Roberts, Tom Crawford, Regan Booty and Alex Lacey, or would I like to see them win a mediocre cup and move onto better?

Naturally, the bigger picture is the league.

Winning the cup isn't going to keep people around, at our level, there's little chance any cup would - I mean it's highly unlikely that the FA Cup can be won by a lower league club. Bradford City doing well is a rarity.

@ChrisΒ fair comments about thelikes of Crawford Booty Roberts etc about progression. It'd be nice to have both. We can only hope that whichever way it happens we carry on moving forward. The bigger picture definitely is the league, I just feel like a trophy even if it is the fa trophy is something we can use to say that we weren't expected to do anything and we win a cup on our first ever appearance.Β

I agree, Notts has unearthed some very good talent that should progress with the club further if promotion is achieved. I believe this to be more long term, whereas cups are only ever a glimpse at short term success.

Perfect example, Notts in the 90’s with the Anglo Italian Cup.

Exactly, promotion must be the preference hands down in order to strengthen over time and not just a one off thing.

There could be a case and point argument that winning a cup in its own right could attract players, especially from the lower leagues.

The league is where the focus must be, I am sure NA will be selecting squads with this in mind.

The league is where it matters but why can't Notts do well in both? The club has one of the biggest squads for this division.

Focus on both I say but the priority should always be on the league.
