I have now written a brief introductory article about football up to the time of Notts formation in 1862 and will continue with more:-i.e. The formation of the F.A. and Football League and come up to date with, hopefully, interesting and informative articles. I enjoy reading about the history, players, and ups and downs of other clubs. I hope other site member do also and will add their own comments to give us all a better insight into football's rich history. Notts-Joe has asked me to write up about the history of football, not just relating to Notts County.

I know quite a bit about Derby County, and I'm still learning more ,even at my age. I know a fair bit about football in general, including other clubs and I look forward to reading other people views. Your thoughts?
So, what have you all been upto today (or currently plan to do)?
I'm preparing to go out, decided to take the children to the part. It seems like one of those days that you wouldn't want to waste sitting inside and doing only vitual things. The plans to go to Vernon Park, we used to go all the time when Jake was younger but with things the way they are these days it's a little awkward.
Plus the children was looking forward to seeing Granny and Super Ram, with them being at their house. It leaves us with some spare time!
I will of course still be around, though limited compared to normal. When I get back I need to do some admin tasks, along with some other things. YP!
Share what you have been upto/doing.
I received this email today, I know not everyone get's these emails so I have (hopefully) uploaded it here.

Apologies if this has been talked about but I read or heard on the radio that McGregor was a bit petulant and showed his displeasure when he was substituted against Wolves on Saturday, Derry said in an interview that he was being immature and he took him off for the good of the team.
Β
I hope that it hasn't soured the relationship between player and manager and it was just a heat of the moment thing.
Β
What do the people who were there think, was Derry right to substitute him or should he have stayed on? What form did the petulance take? Was he right to be annoyed?
Β
Discuss.

We took our Grandson George to the YMCA Day Camp today, they spend the day there and do all sorts of activities which keeps them occupied and hopefully wears him out. We walked there it is about a mile and all the way he was singing "Its fun to stay at the YMCA" at the top of his voice, this was at 8am in the morning, our street is occupied by mainlyΒ retired people, a lot of curtains were drawn no doubt hoping to have a lie in, goodness knows what they thought.

I get really confused when reading posts that people have quoted, sometimes I can't tell what is the quote and what is the reply, anyone else have this problem? It is particularly bad on the phone app.
Β
My question is @notts-joe is it possible to differentiate better between the quote and the reply? Make the quote a different colour perhaps. When I am quoting a post on the desktop I try to remember to change the colour of the quote myself to make it more readable but you can't do that on the phone app.

Obviously there's a lot of adverse weather around at the minute, so if any of the matches included in the prediction league are postponed or abandoned, they will be void, and no points will be awarded.

This Saturday's fixtures:
Doncaster Rovers v Barnsley
Millwall v Bolton Wanderers
Crawley Town v Carlisle United

Because it seems to be 1 step forward and 2 steps back. We are gradually running out of games, we can't keep expecting other teams to slip up, can you honestly see us putting a long unbeaten run going. Which is what is needed. Forever hopeful tho.

Sir Tom Finney: Former Preston and England winger dies at 91
Finney made more than 400 league appearances for Preston North End between 1946 and 1960 and won 76 caps for England.
Preston's favourite son
Sir Tom Finney
Paul Fletcher BBC Sport
"Preston has lost its favourite son, a man who gave Prestonians pride in the place they come from. It was as though a little of the esteem and respect in which Finney was held rubbed off on all of them.
"My dad always insisted that he knew him. Everyone of his generation did and so I took his words lightly. One day I was walking through the centre of town with my old man when I noticed Finney walking towards us. He looked up as our paths crossed and, with what I am sure to this day was a hint of recognition, looked my dad square in the face and wished him good morning.
"Sir Tom, you will be missed."
Read Paul Fletcher's tribute
He scored 30 goals for England, placing him joint sixth on the all-time list with Alan Shearer and Nat Lofthouse.
A Preston statement said: "Sir Tom was the greatest player to ever play for Preston North End and one of the all time greats for England."
Preston are due to play Leyton Orient in League One on Saturday at Deepdale.
The statement added: "Preston North End have been informed of the extremely sad news of the passing of Sir Tom Finney.
"The thoughts of everyone at the club, and those connected with it, are with his family at this time."
The Football Association tweeted: "The FA is saddened to hear of the passing of Sir Tom Finney, one of England's all-time greatest players."
Manchester United manager David Moyes knew Finney well during his time playing for, and then managing Preston between 1993 and 2002, owning a framed picture of Finney at his home.
Speaking before Finney's death, Moyes said: "Sir Tom was a great help in the early stages of my management career.
"He had an incredible passion for the game and someone I have great admiration for. There is no doubt he is one of the greatest players but to me he is also a great man."

Sir Tom Finney: a look back at a remarkable life
BBC chief football correspondent Mike Ingham told BBC Radio 5 live: "He was a slight figure but incredibly brave. Former Liverpool manager Bill Shankly considered him to be the greatest player to ever play the game.
"That's all you need to know."
Born in Preston, Finney was named footballer of the year in 1953-54 and 1956-57 and was twice a runner-up in the league with his local club, as well as playing in the 1954 FA Cup final defeat to West Brom.
He was linked with a move to Italian side Palermo in 1952, but Preston chairman Nat Buck quashed the deal, saying: "If tha' doesn't play for us, tha' doesn't play for anybody."
Twitter reaction
MOTD presenter Gary Lineker: "Sir Tom Finney has left us. One of the greatest players this country has ever seen, and a true gentleman"
MOTD pundit and former Preston winger Kevin Kilbane: "I'm proud to say I grew up on the same street as Sir Tom Finney. Very sad to hear of his passing."
Wolves: "Farewell to one of the game's greats. Rest in peace Sir Tom Finney. A true legend & former team mate and friend of our own Billy Wright."
Chelsea: "Chelsea FC is saddened to hear of the passing of Sir Tom Finney, one of England's all-time greats. Condolences to his family and friends."
West Ham: "Everyone at West Ham United has been deeply saddened by the passing of @pnefc and England great Sir Tom Finney."
In all he scored 187 league goals for North End and was also a qualified plumber in the family business. North End were relegated from the top flight in 1961, a year after Finney retired, and have not returned since.
He played at the 1954 and 1958 World Cup finals with England. Former England and Blackpool defender Jimmy Armfield calling him a "great footballer and a great man".
Speaking in 2012, England's record goalscorer Sir Bobby Charlton called Finney's contribution to football "immeasurable".
Charlton told BBC Sport: "I used to look at him and think, this is fantastic.
"Watching him, you knew full well that the full-backs had had it. He was just too good for them. Occasionally I had the pleasure to play with him and it was the greatest pleasure anyone could ever give me.
"He passed to me on my England debut and I had never been so proud.
"I have so many happy memories of watching him play. His contribution to football is immeasurable."

I see that the Notts County Ladies team have signed two England players.
Β
They are to play their games in the summer months at Meadow Lane (god help the pitch) but there are only 8 in the league they are playing in so they will play 7 homes games, they can't play in black and white stripes because the black block on the back of the shirt somehow clashes with the referees, so they will play in Notts present away shirts.
Β
I'm not sure of admission prices but would you consider going to support the ladies. (No jokes about swapping shirts after the game please).
Β
I think I might give it a go if I wasn't camping or anything it might stave off the feeling of "cold turkey" I get when there is no football. Although having said that there will be the world cup starting in June of course.

I'm hopeful that even if Notts do suffer the drop they will stick with Derry & Abbott and rebuild the club for a serious attempt to 'do a Cardiff' and storm through the league
but
if that didn't happen
if Notts suffered a drop into the Conference
would you still support them?
If not, where would you go to get your fix? Be honest, would it be the City Ground?
Who do you regard as a club you might support if there was no Notts and travel was no object?
In a way I suppose this is two questions.Β

I've just heard on the radio that Nottinghamshire school children will no longer be allowed to visit the county's nature reserves because of the problem of dog faeces being left on paths.
This really annoys me, we used to take 4 children to and from school and it was a nightmare steering the kids round dog poo on the pavement so they don't step in it.
Some of the ones that do pick it up then think it's a good idea to hang the bag in the nearest tree like some bizarre decoration.
It's time these irresponsible dog owners were punished with really hefty fines.
Rant over, I'd better stop before I blow a gasket.

I've just watched most of the prematch interview on MP...my battery gave up the ghost before I got right to the end, but I'm sure I heard the interviewer say something about the comments Kenny Jackett made about us after watching us on Saturday as the Wolves game was postponed.Β He's supposed to be complimentary about us, but I can't find his comments anywhere.Β I googled it and watched a video but all he said was we were fighting for our lives.Β
Β
I'm sure the interviewer said that it was a comment about us being an excellent footballing team in a false league position, but I couldn't hear too well.
Β
Has anyone read or heard this, and if so, can you provide a link please?

This morning @tonyhateley posted a rant about dog mess and @GrannyPie asked him not to start me off with things that annoy me.She went on to mention people stepping in front of me when I'm pushing her in the wheelchair. This is very common even when just walking by myself. She went on to list impatient people, queue jumpers,Forest fans, the weather, out of control kids with parents who couldn't care less and people speaking too loud while on a mobile phone..
Β I can add stupid rules about parents/children's holidays in term time and what can go in school lunch boxes.I could go on forever but what does everyone else think. Are there any more members about to join @Super_Ram and @tonyhateley's Grumpy Club?

We all desperately hope that Notts keep their League 1 status although, as I've said, I can't rate our chances better than 50/50. Those games that others had over us unfortunately seem to be turning into more points than you would hope for. Bristol C especially seem to have rallied and I see them pulling clear.
So my question is this:
If Notts are to survive then name me four clubs that are likely to take the fall this season. Whatever four I come up with I can list three certain fallers, but the fourth in my reckoning is Notts. We have no consistency whereas Cotterill is now drilling that into Bristol.Β

Wolves step-up interest in Celtic's Callum McGregor as Notts County hope for loan deal.
Β
Notts County's hopes of keeping Callum McGregor at Meadow Lane took a further blow today after Wolves stepped-up their interest in the Celtic midfielder.
The Post understands Kenny Jackett is preparing a ΓΒ£750,000 swoop for the Magpies' top scorer who has bagged 12 goals while on loan from the Hoops.
It is believed Celtic were originally keen on a straight swap deal with Wolves for Scottish international Leigh Griffiths which the League One side were cool on.
They are now said to be readying a straight cash bid for the 20-year-old who has become a hot property during the transfer window.
Read More; Here
I'm not happy about this, although I have had time to digest the news. It's very likely that McGregor won't be coming back to us, so I really hope someone else places a big and temps him a way from a rival League One team.
Thoughts?
