£3.7m loss

"The club posted an operating profit of £48.8m, having lost £16m the previous year, though that figure has already been spent on ground improvements at Kenilworth Road, upgrades to the training ground and new club office space."

I noticed while reading the article that the club's turnover increased from £18.4m to £132.3m thanks to their return to the top flight after more than 30 years away, but operating costs also jumped from £39.5m to nearly £85 m as a result of winning the Championship play-off final against Coventry City.

The Premier League is certainly a different Football World when it comes to financing a Club.

I assume that the increase in turnover was due to primarily an increase in players wages. And what happened to the parachute payment this season?

Luton look as though they may be relegated this season from the Championship so the parachute payment looks like it hasn't given Luton an advantage.

It's hard to believe that it is possible that Notts could be playing them next season.

Overseas broadcasting income should be the first on the list for an Independent Football Regulator, to target for EFL

This may be a controversial opinion but I believe English football would be served much better if the Premier League & EFL Companies were forced to amalgamate to form one company that looks after the interests all four league clubs.

I believe that this could result in more money for the lower league clubs when it comes to television rights, which could result in less lower league clubs getting into financial trouble.

When you consider that the revenue generated for just one league is £3.64 billion compared to the revenue for 3 lower leagues being just £206 million, there is a massive disparity there.

Some may say that this might make a European super league much more certain, but I say let the big six Clubs  go if they wish. There needs to be a fresh realignment in English football.

Can we read anything in this?

Fleetwood's £9.3m losses perhaps should be ringing alarm bells?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/66287294

I do care about environmental matters, perhaps there should be a EFL directive to prevent excessive use of flying?

It would be nice to hear if @Dry Nelson Ray would be willing to consider a change in travel policy. London based teams in the NL would regularly travel up 1st class by train from St Pancras to Nottingham

Paul Barthorpe says the criticism, which has included death threats, has taken a toll on his health.

Key quote:

"One of the clubs who look set to claim one of the League One play-off spots Barnsley had been hoping for this season are newly-promoted Stockport County. They lost over £7m in 2023-24, but owner Mark Stott injected £11m in the form of new shares during their League Two-winning campaign.

Barnsley had an operating loss of 9.6 million last season, so there's still Championship spending going on there. Stockport's spending is huge, but at that time they were in L2 with a smaller slice of tv money.

It puts our own figures into perspective, but none of it is sustainable. Clubs are kidding themselves that the football regulator will be a silver bullet.

@DangerousSausage A Football Regulator may rule to allow PL overseas TV income to be allowed into the distribution pot! EFL 3 should replace the NL.'s top division, using a proportion of said money.

Maybe the only way is to have a financial points penalty for every £m of loss. With financial accounts working in arrears, the points penalty would be effective in the 2nd season, following the publication at Companies House. I would be in favour of EFL accepting management accounts from clubs during the season, so points deduction would happen that season, with severe penalties to Directors for signing off misinformation.

A new thread to report & talk about the Weather. It could be a Weather forecast, a weather event at home or abroad, or even a weather alert.

A comprehensive fuller form of accounts. Carlisle return a profit last financial year, .... looks like they are heading downwards, just like Notts when they had one of the EFL2 largest budgets under Hardy. It's how wisely you spend the money!

So Donny losing circa 3x what #Notts are losing, financial year ended June 2024

To me, this is a strong financial performance, given that I believe they have £500k lease costs to pay each season

Especially for @Chris.... Duffy, Brisley, Dickinson all at Congleton Town...what could possibly go wrong?:rollonfloorlaughing:

I didn't mind Shaun Brisley, and always thought he was a model professional for us. It's just that he wasn't as good, or able to reproduce his form from other clubs. One day, I'll find out about the conversation between him and Harry Kewell, as to what was said about him being pushed into midfield. I already know Thierry Audel didn't rate or like a certain vampire manager who lasted a short time (not short enough).

  • This is a polite reminder that if you are able to subscribe or make a donation, it would greatly help to maintain and improve the site. Subscribing is not necessary, but I would strongly encourage it, as it provides regular support for the site.

I know members and subscribers understand, but I had to take another step back just to get to grips with the downside to my health.

I will be making every effort to crack on, and whilst I know nobody has asked for any explanations, I do feel bad about being inconsistent. I would like to thank all who subscribe and donate because it takes a huge amount of pressure off funding the site. Speaking openly, the amount in costs can be concerning with the cost of living, and everyone trying to get by with such silly prices for electricity, gas, and food. I do not take for granted the amazing support, not one bit.

The site currently has only three active subscribers due to the patch issue that cancelled all subscriptions to the Pride of Nottingham. What a shame! I have spoken to the gaffer and seen some of his recent efforts. If you were one of the four previously active subscribers, please don’t let the lack of article content discourage you. The site is still highly valuable. I recently visited a Grimsby Town fan site to predict the final league standings, and it made me truly appreciate the cleanliness of PON. The content largely depends on the gaffer and his personal health, which everyone would agree comes first. In the meantime, we are working to restore all the excellent value provided to visitors and members.

  • He has always shown great promise since joining, and has made it clear we don't need to worry about losing Dan Crowley. Our play from the back is now less predictable compared to when Crowley was in the team, though there are aspects of his game we still miss. Charlie Whitaker is proving he has a good eye for goal and the potential to become an important first-team player. It would be a mistake to overlook extending his contract. Now, it’s up to Notts to maximise his development and continue shaping him into a professional footballer.

  • I liked Carl Dickinson; I thought he would be a good player for us, but I don't think he was all that good.

He had an attitude, and he just seemed like a bit of a ***khead. Both he and Richard Duffy used to swagger around like they thought they were something special. Both were terrible at defending, though Dickson could be good, to give him credit. He was part of Kevin Nolan's laddish drinking culture and became very much disliked among the fans who witnessed his off-the-field antics.

I remember the season when we finished 5th and lost to Coventry in the playoffs. He knew he was being released, and started refusing to give young fans his signature or even pose for a photo. He would be quite argumentative, in my opinion, when there was never any point. I can also remember him calling a lad, about the age of 17, a pr*ck for telling him that he needed to defend better.

Hartlepool might benefit from his coaching, but I am not really sure. I think he could help them be tougher, but I hope he's lost that chip he had on his shoulder, and I never really liked him after seeing his behaviour.

Darren Sarll brought in Carl Dickinson as 1st team coach in June 2024. By November 2024, Lennie Lawrence moved Carl to a strength and conditioning role?

Unsure whether he is still at Hartlepool?

Edit...as an aside, Duffy is manager at Congleton Town!

@Piethagoram I really should ban the mentioning of Richard Duffy, but then I wouldn't be able to complain about him. If members like @menzinho are aware of why I dislike Richard Duffy, then I can't commit to banning Duffy, as we have had better players during the Reedtz era who have been shockingly treated in comparison to that beever.

I hope he's a better manager than he was a defender for us, all those pass-backs and errors which led to goals.
