With the Departure of the Man who took him to Manchester City and Pep Guardiola's Contract with City coming to an End in June Next Year, City's Brazilian Goalkeeper Ederson seems to have the Drop on everybody else, stating the Club already have Coaches Lined up to take over Pep's position should he depart the Etihad. Ruben Amorin, Xabi Alonso and Roberto De Zerbi are the Men in Question. So Not Unlike the England Job and the appointment of Thomas Tuchel it would seem that the Current  English Premier League Champions are Ignoring any English Coach for their Head Coach's Position.

Rumor has it that Pep is going to be offered around the £18 Million mark to extend his Contract at City.  And it is Now being Stated he Did Want the England Job, but Dithered about and Missed the FA's Deadline to come up with a Definite Answer, so the Position went to Ex-Bayern Boss Tuchel. Which to Me Seems Strange, because if the FA Wanted Guardiola that Badly surely they would have Given Him as Much Time as He Wanted? I would come Down on the Side of Pep Wanted To Much Money, and the FA merely Couldn't Afford Him.

So What Now For Pep? Does he Remain at City and Rake in the Millions? Will he take a Year's Sabbatical? Or Go On and become the Head Coach of An International Side, the Only Real Challenge he has left in his Football Career? Winning A Major Trophy As The Head Coach Of A National Side.

No Mate You're Not Wrong. As I've said before Guardiola has never had to Struggle at any Club he's been in Charge of, they have all been Mega Rich and Top Clubs with No or very Little Opposition, in their Respective Leagues. The Guy isn't fit to Shine the Shoes of Managers like Jimmy Sirrel, Brian Clough, Dave Basset who have Got Hold of Clubs and have worked hard and taken Unfancied Clubs and have taken them to Heights that their Owners could Only Dream Of. Cloughie did it with Both Derby and Forest, Jimmy Sirrel of course with the Mighty Magpies and Dave Basset with Wimbledon.

And it seems that Phil Parkinson is Now doing a Job at Wrexham. Admittedly he has the Money, but Nowhere near the Amount that Pep has been given at City or over his Career. Plus it was Rumored last Season that should Parkinson Fail to get Wrexham Promoted,  to League 1 he'd get the Sack. Something tells Me, Pep's never had to Face That Kind of Pressure.

In an Update it would seem Guardiola will be Staying the Etihad, and Raking In his Millions. But Once he's Retired how is he going to Look back on His Career, Yes he's Won Trophies, but has most Fans have said, he's bought His Glory, he's Never Truly Had To Work For It. As you have said Yourself any Coach Worth His Salt could achieve what Pep has done with all His Billions.

Want Respect from this Notts Fan Guardiola and Others ? Go and Coach a team currently in the National League, get them Promoted take them to the Premier and win a Trophy, then you can call yourself a Proper Coach. It will Never happen of Course and Pep will look back on his Career and tell people look how Good he was with all the Trophies he's Won and Yet Even He Deep Down will know his Career is A Falsehood.

I know it won't probably happen but if Man City are guilty of most charges they are accused of & Pep has already committed himself to the club.

What if the club get lots of points deducted or even get relegated out of the PL, will he stay with City getting a transfer ban & losing most of their team due to FFP rules?

That would be a big test I think.

Pep is the least of their worries. With the money and talent they have, they should be a stronger force in the Champions League.

It's not good for football when a manager seems bigger than the club. If he decides to leave, so be it. They should be more concerned about the serious charges they are facing.

After several Attempts to get in Touch with the PON Team only to be Told that they weren't able to  My Receive My Message, I've decided to ask my Question in Granny Pies General Discussion  Section here on the PON Website. My Question is,

Why isn't there a Down Vote of Dislike Button on the PON Website? After All We're All Grown Ups and I'm sure a Down Vote or Dislike against on Your Comment on a Certain Debate, isn't the End Of The World. I'm sure Fans on here a Big Enough To Accept the Fact, that Other Members Don't Agree with them on All Subjects, the Nearest thing to a Down Vote is a Sad Emoji which Doesn't Really Cover Everything. There Must be a way a Member can Down Vote Something, But Not have their Name Attached, in case there's a Worry it make start an Argument between Members. Personally If I Don't Agree with What's Been Said by a Certain Member at the Moment I Simply Ignore that Comment and Don't Engage With Them. But I would like the Opportunity To Register My Disagreement. It certainly Wouldn't Bother Me, If Another Member Disagreed with Me, As I Feel It Would Make The Debate More Open.

Or is this Considered to Controversial ? Or Is it Simply Not The Done Thing? Or It's Been Tried Before and Stirred Up To Much Hassle Between Certain Members? I Would Genuinely Like  To Know. And Are There Any Other Members Who Would Like A Down Vote Button? Thanks.

  • If Somebody doesn't Agree or Like What I Say, Well That's Fare Enough. It certainly doesn't bother me whether they answer my Comment with a Like, a Heart, or any of the other Emoji's which are available, or don't pass Comment at All.

It would also seem that we may have drifted Slightly Off Topic Regarding a Down Vote Button, which is the Question I originally asked and Why there isn't one on PON? My Argument for one seems to have  moved the Debate in a Different Direction and by all sense and purpose PON Members Don't think there is a need for One. Which is Fair Enough and I accept the Majority Decision with Good Grace.

I agree with @Robbie and @Chris here, a downvote button would be negative to the climate and vibe of the forum. I've seen it in Reddit too, it makes it much too easy to just downvote something you disagree with and move on. The way things are now, you can only show that you disagree with something by making a post and stating your view, and isn't that what a discussion forum is all about? :)

I want to hear different views (as long as they are stated respectfully of course). Unless they're disagreeing with me of course. In that case it's off to the dungeon!

I understand this is just an idea, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's good to share thoughts on topics that could help the site. I believe we should encourage healthy discussions, so I wouldn't support downvoting or disagree reactions. I would prefer to explain my reasons instead and not focus on reactions. I wouldn't want to discourage anyone or make them feel that their posts aren't valid.

Maidenhead United v Hartlepool United

Sutton United v Oldham Athletic

This Annoys Me About Notts (I know it shouldn't but it Just Does) Why is it when the Magpies play away from home, and there's No Colour Clash (shirt wise as it was yesterday) why is it that Notts  Don't play in their Traditional Black & White Stripes? After all they are the Colours Notts are known for, you'd think the Club would want to play in them, whenever they can.

And Yes I Know there are Different Sponsors on the Orange and Blue/Purple Shirts, but there must be away around this, even if the Away Kit just consisted of a simple White shirt with Black Shorts' it's Not The Stripes I know, but it's still the Clubs Black & White Colouring associated with the Magpies. It may Not Bother a lot of Fans but I'm of the Opinion that Notts should be waring the Traditional Colours Whenever They Can.

Notts County Women meet Leafield Athletic at Coronation Park Eastwood on Sunday 20th October at 2pm. Here's the gaffer with his pre match thoughts.

Some PON Members may remember back in September, that I shared exserts from My Family Tree  thanks to a Genealogist , Doctor Tom Cobblers.

A Couple of days Ago Doctor Cobblers got back in touch and told me he'd found out, more information regarding my Ancestry, as it was last time

I had Nothing  to do with this Research, so as last time this Work Is All Cobblers.

Historians Among you may Remember that in Ancient Greece  the Greek's fought a Battle against the Invading Persians, at Marathon and were victorious, they sent a Messenger back to Athens some 26 miles away, to tell the People of the Greek Army's Victory. Apparently that Guy was an Ancestor of Mine. He ran the Full 26 miles in one go, (the Marathon Race is named after that feat), he ran into the City and Declared "We Won" where upon the Poor Guy Fell Down Dead. The Fact He Was Waring A Gorilla Suit, Didn't Help Matters.

A Great Uncle of Mine fought in the Boer War, at the turn of the 20th Century and was present at the Relief Of Ladysmith. In Fact She Was So Impressed With Him, She Invited Back The Following Night.

At the end of the 19th Century and the start of the 20th many children had to Forsake their education and go out and get a Job, to help out with putting food on the table and paying bills. My Grandfather (who was born in 1905) was one such Child at the Age of 10, he left School and Got His First Job. That being a Wringer Out for a One Armed Window Cleaner.

In 1979 Sir David Attenborough  Launched his Epic TV Series, Life On Earth. My Uncle Charlie was part of his Research Team and like other Team Members came up with little Known Facts Regarding the Natural World. Uncle Charlie's claim to Fame was the fact he found out, that Stick Insects Mate Very Very Slowly, In Case Of Fire.

So there you are fellow PON Members, should you wish to fined out more about your Ancestry Go For It. But it may be Better to Avoid Doctor Tom Cobblers.

Game 12 - The Wombles (H)

Team: AFC Wimbledon

Date: 19/10/2024

Where: Meadow Lane

What line-up should Stuart Maynard opt for? What will be the key areas for the Magpies to get a victory? What do you think the final score will be?

Have your say below, join in with the Pride of Nottingham match discussion.

  • AFC Wimbledon came with a game plan, and I think Stuart Maynard expected them to play like that. He made some good tactical changes that helped us deal with them, but the game seemed like it was going to end in a draw. If anything, I felt relieved we didn’t concede. Defensively, we were solid, and Matty Platt was outstanding. Alex Bass played really well too.

i am pleased with the win because its a boost, it helps confidence and that alone can have a further impact on playing well. defensively i thought we were good, but needed a bit more creativity in attack. to grind out a win does seem very positive, despite wimbledon posing more of a threat. we showed our spiriting and fought for the win.

Apparently the Top of the FA's Wish List to become the Next England Manager was (Drum Roll) Surprise Surprise Pep Guardiola. Who was Sounded Out  for the Post by the FA in the Off Season. Pep danced around the Media's Questions Regarding the Job so it would Appear the FA Couldn't Afford him.

So Tuchel who Stated he would leave Bayern Munich at the End of Last Season became the New Favourite. Because after he left the German side he was Linked to other Jobs such has Manchester United and  Even a Return to Chelsea and practically Every Top Coaching Position which was available. None of Which Came About. So was Tuchel Already Lined Up to Lead the England Team after Gareth Southgate's Resignation?

Some Evidence that will Back that Up, is the Fact the FA Supposedly Interviewed at least 10 Coaches for the Role, but None of The English Coaches who were Ideal for the Job were approached or Spoken to about becoming the Next England Manager. Eddie Howe ( a lot of Fans Favourite) Sean Dyche Graham Potter, Frank Lampard, Gary O'Neil, Steve Cooper and Russell Martin None were Interviewed, so it would Seem Guardiola, Tuchel and Lee Carsley were the Three left on the FA's Short List. Then Both Guardiola and Carsley  fell by the Wayside which left Tuchel Has the Only Choice.

So That It Would Seem Is How A German, Became The Head Coach Of The Three Lions.

Let me say that now Tuchel has been appointed. I wish him well & if he can deliver a major international trophy, then that would be a positive development.

However, the whole point of having international tournaments is for a Country to win that tournament, with English players Managed by an English manager, or a Spanish team managed by a Spanish Manager.

What people are forgetting is that an international team is trying to demonstrate that at that particular time, they are the best football team in the World that have been coached by the best coach in the World. It's a team effort.

It would be a great showcase for an English coach, which would benefit all English coaches in the land if an English Coach won a World Cup.

People think it's more important that the team wins, but the Head Coach/Manager is part of the team. So if England win big under Tuchel, can we really say that the England team has won big?I 'm not so sure.

And to answer the question, I think it was a done deal.

  • the scenarios you could do with something like this, even if both contestants did not fight or foul each other. it could be very funny! the cross bar challenge is something, but its always pretty safe.

get the third choice keeper to be in the net after an obstacle course and allow fans to take a shot to win a grand prize.

I'd love us to do something like this!

I can remember watching a few games one season, not at Notts, but at half-time a few fans got a chance to win a car. Presumably a local car-dealership was sponsoring them.

Anyway this car would be backed into one corner of the stadium, in between the stands, and the boot would be opened. From the halfway line the fans then had to hit the ball into the boot of the car to win it! Unsurprisingly no-one won it!

Notts have made a good start & in their first 10 league matches they have won 5 & lost only 2.

Unfortunately, Notts have played 3 of the top teams but have lost two of them & drawn 1. That is just 1 point from those three matches. Four of their wins came against teams currently in the bottom 6.

Last season, Notts had a poor record against the top 7 sides only gaining 19 points from a possible 60.

This season Notts know that they will need to take more points from these top of the league tussles to either get into the playoffs or better still get automatic promotion.

Notts will be meeting Doncaster & Walsall soon who are in the top 7 presently, & Notts will be hoping for a positive result against those two.

Can Notts reverse this trend of poor results against the top teams in league 2? I think they can but they need to counter the way that teams are playing against them, especially at home, & Notts need to be more unpredictable in the way they play too.

  • I think we can, but we need to be mindful of injuries because this is the biggest thing which impacts our performances. I know some fans enjoy criticising Stuart Maynard again, but he's doing well. Yes, we are defensively stronger now, but I do think compared to last season, we are weaker in the striker department, mostly due to not replacing Macaulay Langstaff. Jatta will get goals, but we can't rely on him to involve himself as other strikers might. We have to present him with a good opportunity or hope it works out.

ideally notts will start to pick up results against the top 7, but i think its more an issue with inform teams. league two is proving to be very tight, afc wimbledon might show its more "form" that is the problem rather than the position. then again, it could reveal its the top 7 that we do have problems with. i think they are games where we at least want to be drawing, as this would help when the points turn into a much crucial resource.

I think that January is a big month in the season, where teams strengthen their squad & players leave.

I think that the January transfer window will be a big window for Notts.

We know that Notts certainly need a new specialist striker, & someone with pace on the wings.

Then there's Dan Crowley who has not yet extended his contract. Will Notts sell him in January before his contract ends?

If so Notts will need another attacking midfielder.

Virtual hugs to @Fan of Big Toneand all others, who have been affected.

with the news of cedwyn scott, it has a sobering thought as to what might happen if players are not given the support they need. i remember fans turning on matt tootle for his time off, with some mocking his gambling addition and believing it was not a fair reason behind having time off. i hope nobody takes this attitude to scott because i think its sickening.

I am hoping that most right thinking fans will be sympathetic to Cedwyn and he will get lots of professional help, I’m glad he’s asked for help it’s very important to admit to yourself that things aren’t right and to seek help.

Hi all, back in 2010 I purchased 1 of 100 commemorative bottles of whisky celebrating 100 years at Meadow Lane. It's in the loft for the grandchildren. Has anyone else got one, there were 100. Has anyone opened it? Is it a decent dram? I've done a search online and there's no record out there.

This is an interesting article on football tactics & formations.

The 3-4-2-1 formation is the preferred formation of Notts for the last few years, certainly under Williams & now Maynard.

It is the preferred tactic of Antonio Conte, & Brendon Rodgers when both were in charge of Chelsea & Liverpool respectively.

It is very informative & I can now see why Notts prefer the one centre forward upfront, & why Didzy & Scott are used as "inside forwards" supporting Jatta

The 3-4-2-1 formation is one of the less commonly used tactics, favored by the likes...

Glasgow has four professional football clubs in the City, the old firm, Celtic & Rangers, then two other clubs, Queen's Park & Partick Thistle.

But there used to be a fifth club that was quite famous founded in 1872. One of the founder members of the Scottish football league, a club that won the Scottish 1st division once, & Scottish Cup twice, & as late as 1961 they finished third in the Scottish 1st division & played in Europe.

Unfortunately the club fell on hard times soon afterwards & due to mismanagement, went bust & were expelled from the Scottish league in 1967. The teams name, Third Lanark AC.

The Club played at Cathkin Park, a ground that regularly saw big crowds in the past. The record attendance was over 51,000 & with large terraces all around,

The Park is still there in ruins now. There is a football pitch still there but on the three sides remaining, the terraces are overgrown & nature has taken over.

The park stands as a sad reminder to what can happen to football clubs no matter how big they were in the past.

There have been several attempts to resurrect the club. A businessman bought the name & to this day, an amateur club in a lower league goes by the name of Third Lanark.

Here follows an interesting video about the club & the ground.

  • McGoldrick has been playing about 60 minutes until Stuart takes him off in previous games this season.

There's no reason why Jatta  & McGoldrick cannot play together for at least 60 minutes.

I think it's better to try & build up a lead rather than bring a player on for the last 15 minutes to try & respond to being behind.

Notts have to be active as well as being reactive. I love the fact that Notts have shown Character & determination to retrieve a losing cause.

The point is, at home we need to build up a lead so the opposition have to come out & attack us for them to retrieve the situation.

When they are forced to come forward, it will leave more space for Notts upfront, & this will help players like Scott & Brown when they come on after 60/65 minutes.

That's why I'd play McGoldrick & Jatta together at the start of a match.

I think they should both start the game against Wimbledon. Jatta leading the line with McGoldrick & Crowley supporting.

I'm sure McGoldrick will be ok for at least 60 minutes, & if he needs to be substituted at that time, Scott could replace him if he is fit, otherwise it will be Brown or Austin.

I’m not averse to Didzy starting, but I honestly think he would be better against a tiring defence, not became he will be fitter, but I think he has that guile and quickness of thought to outsmart defenders whose concentration will be starting to waiver.

I really think that this is the one area we really need to strengthen in January, if we persist with two attacking midfielders behind a lone striker. My personal preference would be for a 5212 formation, but we really need another pacey forward for this. Either way, we’ll need to dip into the transfer market to get us into the promotion shake up.

I saw a picture of the above game where Notts player Gordon was hugging the Chesterfield player Gordon at the end of the game, I think it was @Dan’s picture.

Are the two Gordon’s related does anyone know?

  • i think even without brexit, scottish teams may struggle to retain their better young talent. a lot of them were poached prior to it, but it might be more likely that premier league teams do look north. we are guilty of overlooking out own home grown talent, suffocating their potential for the belief that you can only find world class players overseas. it all comes down to ability and potential, i believe most really good players have the ability of being class. i think if callum mcgregor had left celtic, he would have reached higher achievements despite him doing well with the club he loves.

personally, i think its better that young foreign players are harder to sign now.

it should be a good thing for england, scotland, wales and northern ireland. as younger players should be getting more of a chance, those outside the uk should reach their potential and most likely would be able to be signed once they are of a better age so i dont see that as an issue.

being able to fill english academies with so many players from other nations, i think is worse. chelsea having been recently spoken about for failing to make world class talent count with jose mourinho. you might say it makes the playing field more fairer for uk based players.

It has been reported that Interim England Coach Lee Carsley doesn't want the England Job. And the Four Main Candidates are now:-

Pep Guardiola

Thomas Tuchel

Graham Potter

and Eddie Howe.

And it seems German Tuchel is into Advanced Talks to take over the role vacated by Gareth Southgate after his resignation after the Three Lions failure to win the  2024 Euro's Final. Really? A German becoming the Head Coach of England's National Side? Please Say It Ain't So, this Surely must be a Joke ? Just Paper Talk? Can you Imagine the Controversy this will Stir Up if Tuchel is Appointed? Or Doesn't the FA Remember the History between the Two Countries. Do they honestly think England Fans will Follow a German Head Coach?  Social Media Platforms will Explode and Even the Main Stream Media (you would hope) would Condemn Such an Appointment.

Of the remaining three Candidates. Potter hasn't had Enough Head Coaching Experience. Pep would charge the Earth and Still wouldn't Embrace English Footballing Heritage. So that just leaves Eddie Howe. And he in My Opinion is the Right Man For The Job. Because he as Managed in the Lower League and Performed Miracles at Bournemouth taking them to the Premiership on a Shoe String Players Budget (compared to other Premiership Sides) and kept them in the Top Division for  Five Seasons. And I am Convinced he could get the Best out of England Top Players.

  • Harry Redknapp was asked for his opinion by Sky Sports News on the Tuchel appointment & he gave his opinion.

He like anyone else, is entitled to his opinion, & many thousands of football fans around the Country will agree with him.

As for "jingoism", I don't see it's relevance on this thread. The UK is hardly going to declare hostilities over a football appointment. To be accused of jingoism for expressing an opinion is somewhat bizarre.

But of course, that happens on X all the time

As for any court case, I recall it ended with an acquittal on both counts.

Redknapp is entitled to his opinion @Robbie, but he's always been very cosy with the media. The man's a windbag. Ultimately, being super patriotic in front of the media won't help you when you've got a football team to motivate and organise.

I'm not delighted with the appointment myself. I was hoping that the FA had moved away from their old model of appointing a big-name club manager in the hope of instant success. Gareth Southgate proved that we could be more successful with a coach who had the right attributes for the job, even if that man didn't necessarily have a glittering club career. Instead they've gone down the Capello route again.

There's a caveat here - big-name managers have a big name for a reason. They have proven that they can handle the pressure at the very highest level, in a way that Carsley maybe hasn't. It's just a shame that a country with such a large pool of talented footballers seemingly can't produce a single coach deemed worthy of leading the national team.

The media has asked for Harry's opinion because his opinion is respected & he's popular as a pundit, former manager & player.

As I said before & I repeat it. The pressure of winning the national league is probably much more than winning the PL league.

In fact, it's easier for one of the "big six" managers to win the PL because they are in a league of six, not twenty & they have access to hundreds of millions of pounds sometimes billions of pounds, to buy the most expensive players.

Let's see the likes of Tuchel, & Guardiola get a team like Morecambe, Accrington or Carlisle who are currently at the bottom of league 2, promoted from league 2, with the players they have.

I've said my peace. Now Tuchel has been appointed we have to go with him. But in my opinion he's no better a coach than coaches in our lower leagues.

Hi everyone.
