I know coz I was there!
I've seen footage of the opening, and it's strange to think that Juventus invited Notts County out of all the teams that could have opened their ground. I think from the footage, they might have been easy on us. It's a great part of our club's history!
It was a great game and day for Notts County. I don't want to repeat myself as I have said this a few times, but I watched the game whilst away with my family. The opening ceremony was amazing!
I have always been very proud of the connection and friendship forged with @Italian Magpies.
Lee Carsley is being criticised because he says he wonβt sing the National Anthem at todays match. Personally I think it should be his choice, what do others think?
- Show previous comments 4 more
Talk about a storm in a tea cup. This one has been whipped up by people who are obsessed about "free speech" when it comes to using racist language - but when Lee Carsley exercises his own freedom not to sing a song, the sky is suddenly falling down. Good on him for sticking to his guns and annoying all the right people.
It feels as though it's the same as those fans using Stuart Maynard's previous full-time position as a BT Technician against him.
Lee Carsley is entitled to sing if he wants, or not.
People really need to stop jumping on things because when the same lot complains the world has gone mad, political correctness this and that - well they're part of the problem. The only thing I care about is signs we are good enough, along with results.
I really donβt care. I find that a lot of people who get upset by things like this arenβt very royal-minded. Theyβre just people who complain about anything and everything.
Olly Tipton Signs For Solihull! | Solihull Moors FC
Β
Never worked out for him at Notts.
Hope he has more luck and game time at Solihull Moors.
It was a wasteful signing, one I think Luke Williams wasn't committed to trying. I think Williams preferred more senior players in defence, as Lewis Macari wasn't always given a fair chance, which is fair enough it's a different style, but the loan move just proved to be pointless for us and Ollie Tipton.
I wish him all the best with kick-starting his career, I hope Solihull Moors proves to be a good fit for him.
What on earth has he done to his hair? Itβs a mix of Messi and some Spanish player I canβt quite name.
Who remembers this?

Honestly, I thought this was a more American thing.
At least until I reached year 10, when my PE teacher Mr Wilson pulled out these very old ropes and showed us how to climb them. I had no issue with doing that; coming down is what I feared. If you weren't careful, not only would you get rope burns from holding tightly, but have them on the way down. I'm not a fan of heights, but I move very slowly and akwardly coming down from the top. One of my friends, just refused and I wished I had.
Mind Mr Wilson, it was the same person that told me to get up when I suffered a dislocation to my right knee. That wasn't a pretty sight!
Luckily not! Otherwise I'd probably be dead.
The main memory from my PE lessons in the 90s were the cross country runs. We just walked for most of it, but broke into a jog when the teachers turned up in their cars to check on us. It also involved negotiating a farmer's field with bulls in it - I ran that bit!
Iβd rather do this than any kind of running. Itβs tough being made to run around a field with no purpose. In some sports, you have to, which I donβt mind.
I nearly died when I noticed this. I was worried you might give credit to an outfield player!!! Michael Kelly, aka Aiden Stone's brother, does deserve to be mentioned! I thought he was outstanding, saving Accrington Stanley from a very embarrassing outcome.
Nelson Khumbeni, I think is the god awful player that could have hit the target in the first half for Accrington but seemed to shoot away from goal and more towards where I sat. He seemed to blame his boot, though it was like he saw the ball move much slower than what it did because the connection on the effort wasn't very good. I thought he did some decent running, but I wasn't impressed with any of their outfield players.

Good morning, I woke up too late to go to the Park Run but itβs matchday, Iβll be there with grandaughter Chloe, Iβm hoping for an entertaining match and obviously a Notts win.
Iβll set the England match to record then watch it when I get home.
I hope everyone has a great day.
A great ending to a dreary day with a win for Notts.
Morning all itβs nice weather for ducks.Β
I woke up this morning trying to remember why I felt happy then I remembered we won again yesterday, isnβt it a nice feeling?
Today as itβs wet we are going to get in the loft and try to sort some stuff out to either send to the charity shop or the tip, I wonβt be doing any heavy lifting though as my arm is too painful.
At least with us having bungalow with a bedroom in the loft the storage part is easy to get to, itβs just a door from the bedroom, so we donβt have to pull down a ladder or anything which is a bonus as we get older.
Does anyone else have pre match rituals, special clothes they wear, lucky underpants?
I always wear a Notts shirt my sons bought me for my 50th birthday 22years ago, the back of the shirt is a bit faded now but you can still read ,βDad 50β itβs very precious because I only have one son now.
I also wear a cap, my old cap which I bought in a charity shop because it said βmagpieβ got very tatty and @ChrisΒ very kindly gave me another one, so I always wear that too.
Who else has matchday rituals?
I used to believe wearing away shirts at home was unlucky, but then I found myself buying more of them and this eventually faded. I used to have a home shirt I believed was lucky, as I didn't watch Notts lose wearing it, but it stopped fitting me years ago. It was a medium, there's no chance that would now. ???? I did think about trying during the season where we were relegated, but I just opt towards bringing Ava (@CutiePie)Β with me.
Every game she has attended we have won, including all four games she made during the same season I mentioned before.
Jake didn't believe me, though even he ended up trying to convince Ava to come to more games when surprisingly for him, we won. Tranmere, Mansfield, and Grimsby are 3 of the 4 she made. Considering how we did that season, they proved to be big wins.
That was the last season Ava actually went to see Notts, getting her back these days isn't remotely doable.
I don't have any rituals as such now. I can remember back in the days when the Jimmy Sirrel stand was open to us and it was a case of pick your seat cos of how unpopulated it was, I never used to sit in an odd number seat except for number 27 which I would actively seek out (cos that's my birthday day). And if we we're losing in games I would also switch seats to a higher number because that was obviously going to make a massive difference to the on field result!Β I was only about 8 or 9 so it made perfect sense to me!
..Trent Bridge and some other red eyesore????
Β
I have to be picky, the video quality is awful and reminds me of when I used my Nokia 5310 Xpress Red phone. It's very whitewashed, which takes the enjoyment away from actually seeing it. There are cheap drones on the market that can capture better footage. Β
I think that the view of all three grounds from the air is so iconic.
Those three grounds & the clubs that play there all have something in common, both football clubs at one point in their history played their matches at Trent bridge.
Both Football teams in the past had players that played cricket at Trent Bridge too,Β
There are family connections that unite all three Clubs. It's not just that the three grounds are close. The close connection goes much further than that.
Itβs amazing how close the three grounds are together when you see them from the air, we are very lucky here to have such iconic, historic sports grounds in our city.
Has anyone seen Changing Ends? Itβs a semi biography about Alan Carrβs (the camp comedian) early life. His Dad Graham Carr was a manager of Northampton Town in the then 4th division. I donβt normally like Alan Carr but this series is very funny and interesting.
Its about his struggles at school being obviously effeminate at an early age, his dad wanted him to be a footballer which was never going to happen.
The young lad who plays Carr as a boy is brilliant in it.
- Show previous comments 6 more
I must say if the series is a true reflection of his early life, he must have gone through hell as a schoolboy people are much more accepting now of gays, lesbians etc but back in the 1980s unfortunately people were less so.
Iβm not keen on him as a stand up comedian his voice grates but I have a new respect for him knowing what heβs gone through.
@Fan of Big Tone I have been watching it with Kate, it's actually very funny - especially in parts.
Oliver Savell really steals the show, and is a great choice to act as a younger Alan Carr. What makes it more interesting to me, is the balance between his father's relationship and how he coped at a young age for being camp. We're on the second season, having watched the episode where he was sick going into kissing the girl who clearly adored him. The Guess Who part, where Alan explained that it was his only "female crush" and the beret hat was hilarious.

It was a good football match. Notts were a bit more patient in building up their play, while Swindon tried to move the ball too quickly. Both teams made poor passes, but that's what League Two is like. What really impressed me was how Notts got back into the game. They played passing football and moved into the right areas. Both of David McGoldrick's goals were well-finished. The game wasn't bad at all. Both teams were fighting for the points and didn't want to settle for a draw.
I wondered if Kevin Keegan had done some sort of event I hadn't heard about, as many of my Facebook friends managed to get their photos taken with him. Impressively, he seemed very friendly and was all smiles.
Now it all makes sense. It was interesting to see him at Meadow Lane.
The memory club is a very good idea.
It's fantastic that the club is recognising Rotherham United for starting the memory club. This shows how football can unite people.

i remember reading about a non league team that used caravans as a way to allow teams to get change. i have tried looking it up but i cant find anything, it was a very low down team.
not the same thing but this is interesting, it shows unsual football grounds.
Unusual football stadiums | FourFourTwo
Why not? It's quirky and it repurposes an old bus. A lot of non-league clubs have parts of their stands taken from sheds and other building materials. I forget what, @super_ramΒ told me about Alfreton Town's stand(s). It's something along this line, that one of the stands was made up of something re-used nearby.
That bus could take the supporters home afterwards.Β

Good midfielder
he was mentioned in the opposition view, he did well and looked like one of swindon towns best players. they have been having issues where they have not given players all that long in contracts, most previously would need renewing. thier owner has been making a lot of poor choices.
a fun thing i learned by speaking with some of their fans, they own 50% of the stadium and that means it prevents the owner or club from doing silly things with it.
Yes, when I posted in a banter group on Facebook asking for Swindon Town fans to answer some questions. He was a player mentioned before I had even spoken to anyone, but the fans I did speak with said he was a very good player for them.

he was always a joy to watch running with the ball and taking people on, such a callum mcgregor type goal. very pleased to see him doing well.
He was an exceptional loan player for us in season 2013/14, scoring 14 goals, & helping Notts stave off possible relegation that season.
What a pair, him & Grealish were for Notts. In another dimension we might have signed both of them.
Pleased that he's doing so well at the very top of the Scottish game. He always had the talent to succeed at the very top.
He was brilliant alongside Grealish for us, it seems like a dream now that we had those two playing for Notts County, they were certainly stars in the making.

i have one of those devices which records my speed and the dashboard, so that i can prove my speed. i have been pulled over twice, once for allegedly driving to slow and once for speeding. both times my dashboard cameras and speed monitors proved otherwise. the police love to try to catch incident people, but you never see those driving like maniacs getting pulled over.
When I was driving a 6 wheel, 29 tonne rigid it was limited to 50 MPH even when driving on the motorway.
I could also manually limit my top speed too, which came in handy, when the speed was reduced on motorways.
The vast majority of HGVs have limiters on board.
I've heard all new cars are now fitted with limiters, so as the years go by speeding will hopefully be a thing of the past.
Of course there will be always be some who will get a way round the limiters but they will stick out like a sore thumbΒ
Iβm a good boy, I can honestly say in 50 years of driving Iβve never been caught speeding, I think Iβve just been lucky however because itβs very easy to let your mind wander for a minute and you end up doing 35 in a 30 mile limit.
Β
152 mph is highly dangerous I hope they had the book thrown at them.

21 minutes ago, Chris said:Oh wow, I would have loved that! The only time I would have caught using my phone, would be to snap pictures of the scenery and memories @Fan of Big Tone! It's typical teens these days, they're too glued to technology.
Indeed, it was something I was really looking forward to having lived in the steam era, I tried to engage them by telling them my memories of steam trains but they were bored. In fact the whole day was a disaster because Whitby was absolutely packed with holiday makers so it wasnβt much fun.
i would love this too! i find the idea really relaxing. i have read about the afternoon tea steam trains which are costly but would be a once in a life time experience.
its a shame that they are not appreciated by some youngsters, but i suppose it can be hard competing against technology.

It's nice to see you. Don't be a stranger, @BradtheMiller. We like seeing fans of other clubs. It gives us a different perspective. I think you'll see that PON is doing really well right now.
It's been awhile, @BradtheMiller. I can't say I have checked out your YouTube channel, but I will give it a watch soon. Meadow Lane has changed a lot since your last visit. The Family Stand will be a good area to watch the game as it's not all that busy.
Around the ground, it's still very busy even with The Navi and The Nest's fan zones.
Enjoy your trip, don't be worried about sharing a video. I don't mind at all.
And if you're driving I'd recommend getting to Meadow Lane early to find some parking - nothing worst than driving around when you don't know the area. Traffic wise it's notably busier now with the attendances reaching 5 figures...
The UK provisionally, has had its coolest Summer since 2015, going against the general trend of getting warmer by the year.
Is this a blip or could we see more cooler summers in the years ahead?
Β

When it's been warm, records have been broken and those really hot days we had - it made it hard for me to adjust to them. They were way too hot, but it's been okay. A little too much rain for me.
it would have been nice to have a few more days where it felt like summer, not boiling hot but warm enough. with nice wind, but the thing about the uk is the weather is never going to be kind to us. ????Β
The UK might have got lucky with the jet-streams this year but weather in mainland Europe was far from cool. I was in Malaga over the summer and that was ridiculously hot, it was 40Β° one day and I'm pretty sure it didnβt drop below 30Β° for the period I was there.
I think the big picture is that 2024 is on track to be the hottest on record, again⦠So not good.

My grandfather always encouraged me to support Notts. He told me that we should look after each other and that being a fan means embracing the fanbase. When I was younger, it didnβt mean much, but it does now.
I sit in the Kop with my parents, and sometimes my grandfather comes too.
Notts is all I know about football. Some of our fans make games more fun when they joke with you. I see this on PON. Iβm glad my parents let me be part of the site.
Iβd love to hear other peopleβs stories about supporting Notts, especially if you go to games with your family. We are a family club.
- Show previous comments 4 more
When I was a kid, it was normal for families to support both Nottingham teams. My father and his family would often go to whichever team was at home. I wasnβt interested in the other team, so I found Notts to be more suited to me. Thatβs how most of my family ended up. Forest became quite violent, whereas Notts was seen as a much more family-oriented club. My grandchildren arenβt Notts fans, but my own children grew up supporting the club.
Spending the past few seasons meeting up with @liampieΒ and @CliftonMagpie has been enjoyable, especially as Liam has expressed a desire to attend more away games. I started going with my family when I was younger, but my parents do not often go now. When they do, they usually sit in the Pavis or enjoy hospitality. I much prefer the Kop and being surrounded by the lively part of the stand.
My family usually goes to about 10 games a season. But when I was in my early teens, I started going with a friend, and I haven't regretted it.
Notts has changed a lot. When I first started going, the club was still trying to adapt to life back in League Two. I remember some of the time we spent in League One, but not much.

Today, I made homemade pizzas for everyone. Ava requested a stuffed crust, while Jake and Ellie devoured two 12-inch pizza each, topped with delectable cheesy bites. Then a half-and-half 12Β inch pizza which I shared with @cheeky~k8.
Made the dough before going to see @super_ram.
We talked, then went to try to tidy the garden up a bit by breaking down branches, which was good. So, I definitely got in some exercise today!
Came home, rolled the dough out and in went four homemade pizzas.
On 30/08/2024 at 19:06, Fan of Big Tone said:@ChrisΒ I hope the physio appointment went well and you get some relief from your back pain.
I've been given new exercises to do, and all three seemed to make a difference when doing them. It's just a balancing act as I do tend to tire easily, but I am very happy with it. A little pain doesn't bother me, I have arthritis in my joints already. The back pain is the worst though, but I am determined to make the most of what I can do.
So, pretty pleased with it. Thanks, Tony!
If he had left Harrogate, I would have been surprised as at 33 he needs to be fighting to remain as their first choice keeper.
I think Forest Green Rovers will have regrets about letting him go.
Fingers crossed he can see out his career in League Two.
