Is it really thirty years ago?

i wished it would have been something i experienced during my years of supporting notts, we were pretty average and woeful until munto came along and the fake money lifted us. so thankful for the years we have had now under the reedtz but the 90s is a special time.

Listen to this, I’ve never heard an interview like this before. WOW!

  • Mansfield's situation is surely a lesson for Notts if they manage to win promotion.

Notts will need to ensure that they have the players that can step up another level & if not,  be prepared to go into the transfer market, to ensure they do not struggle as Mansfield have done.

I think it’s a bad sign when the manager, or assistant manager in this case, starts to criticise the players publicly, it doesn’t actual sound if there’s much togetherness when that happens, I don’t mind them being honest and saying it was an awful performance but I’d rather hear them say “we are in this together, we all take responsibility and together we’ll work hard to put it right”, or words to that effect.

If the manager throws the players under the bus they aren’t going to want to play for him, they are in danger of losing the dressing room in my opinion.

how am i only just learning about this, the comments are funny but at least hes speaking some sense. i do think hes speaking more out of frustration which is making him a little too honest. its not the response you want trying to secure a league one place. mansfield fans will like it, but he is blaming the players and taking no accountability for his or nigel cloughs actions.

  • the players need to take the criticism right now on the chin, just try harder to be tighter at the back and make better judgements when it comes to passing. i felt impressed with the workrate and effort in the first half to win the ball back. it is a little annoying to see us pass back, but sometimes it is understandable. i think notts fell into the habit of doing this to much against chesterfield and where as sam slocombe is being blamed. it was hardly his fault, yes he had a moment which he made up for with a brilliant save with his legs but the decision to pass the ball back to him, full well knowing he keeps being pressed and is not the most confident at passing is just a silly mistake.

i think going into the second half, all the positives of the first half performances just drifted. we had spells, but it took us longer to suss out chesterfield and it favoured them. notts looked good attacking, but lacked options in the box and was very wasteful on goal.

Just to follow on from a few good points, I do think we need to take full advantage of the 5 subs more often at times, especially if we want to keep our pressing and intensity levels high. The fact you can make more subs now actually benefits teams that want to press because it gives you a chance to bring more fresh legs on. Asking your midfielders and wide players to press effectively for 90 minutes is not possible, they are going to fade as the game wears on.

And I think for Jatta it hasn’t helped that we’ve basically played him constantly for 90 minutes since about November. And unfortunately, Traore, who could replace him is injured. Yes he probably should've scored a few more goals but he's still scored the bulk of our goals this season (along with McGoldrick) I don’t know whether it’s down to style of play or individuals but the spread of goals across the team has been poor this season.

  • roll on when football does become regulated with the finances and teams have to start taking into account what is spent more carefully, i would hope it leads fans to be more appreciative of the club when it does well and show better support when times are tougher.

    This isn't good news.

"The UK government is considering paring back the powers of its planned football regulator as part of a wider clamp-down on bureaucracy".

"Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s office is reviewing the proposals to ensure they don’t stifle the growth of the Premier League and disincentivize overseas investment in Britain’s biggest football clubs, according to people familiar with the matter. The regulator is unlikely to be scrapped but could be watered down through further amendments to legislation that is currently being finalized, they said".

If the powers of the Regulator are cut it would be a big blow to football in this Country as far as I'm concerned.

I wouldn't call it one of the greatest. They should have called the camp one of the most notorious prisoner of war camps.

Russian & Polish prisoners of war were treated terribly by the Germans during the war.Thousands upon thousands were used for forced Labour, & thousands were sent to concentration  camps. This camp was more like a death camp than a prisoner of war camp.

May all who died there rest in peace.

its nice to know russia can do some good, its a shame these days they are more like germany was back then and only care about those in power. this is a very sad anniversary though. :(

i have not seen anything about giving feedback about this at any point, did any other members?

i dont get why it has to be the top of the kop that gets the safe standing, it would be better lower but the club does what it wants. i am not against those who stands but i am curious if this effects me. no email, just the status so time will tell.

This is news to me, but I moved from the KOP to the Pavis Stand a few seasons ago. While I do miss it, I don’t think the KOP has been the same or as good as it could be. I hope the introduction of safe standing brings a lot more energy to the atmosphere.

some people are in a rush to do things like this, without doing the proper checks and i find it very disrespectful. its happened over here, you get people keen to post the news for reactions and it turns out they were wrong. its sad... :(

By the end of March we will probably know if Notts can get an automatic promotion spot.

In March, Notts have matches  against:-

Fleetwood away.

Barrow at home.

Wimbledon away.

Grimsby Away.

Chesterfield at home.

Crewe at home.

Newport away.

Positive results or even wins against three of those sides, Wimbledon, Grimsby, & Crewe who are competing with Notts,  plus picking up points elsewhere could prove to be a big month for Notts.

Are you confident Notts can come through those seven matches looking good?

  • Show previous comments  9 more
  • After today's match against Wimbledon we don't have automatic promotion in our hands now.

Notts need to make sure that they can stay in the playoff places.

Notts have to get those injured players back as a matter of urgency. Didzy & Jodi are so big for us. They can make all the difference for Notts.

i am starting to think every bad spell notts has it sucks the hope of finishing in the automatics, and then we go on a good run and it renews that hope. i dont think we are consistent enough, i believe notts has the depth and quality but it comes down to wanting to win. pushing for goals and defending well, not losing control of matches and generally struggling to convert chances that are created.

right now i think playoffs is more likely, but i am worried that if we persist with this form we may just end up slipping out of them too.

It hasn't been a good month so far that's for sure. The start of the month was the time when you want to go on a run and have a 6/7/8 unbeaten streak that would lift you comfortably into the automatic spots and take the pressure off in those last few matches.

I do think we need to now beat both Crewe and Newport to keep our automatic hopes alive, other teams around us surely aren't going to keep dropping points too!

Nice to see the other Magpies win a trophy for the first time in 70 years.

It's great to see another side win a major trophy rather than Liverpool & Man City for a change.

Eddie Howe has worked incredibly hard to build a decent Newcastle side.

Of course he is backed by very wealthy owners & lots of cash to build a competitive side, but I am pleased for the Newcastle fans who have been starved of success for so long.

I believed that Eddie Howe deserved the England manager's job & maybe one day he may get that job if he continues to get success at Newcastle.

I'm sure the Newcastle fans will be partying well into the night & for many days to come.

Next Saturday the proper football will continue, so there will be a prediction league round as usual from about Wednesday onwards. Thanks for playing and have a good week!

Morning all, the sunshine has gone it’s a cloudy start and forecast to be colder. I’ve got to go to the dental lab this morning, I have a partial top denture which broke in two last night. I’m hoping they can fix it as I wont get a dentist appointment before our holiday next week.

I haven’t got much else on other than that, we’ll probably have a walk this afternoon but not too far as my thighs are still sore from running on Saturday.

Have a great day.

  • Good morning and happy Sunday, it’s going to be a busy day for us, we’ve got to get our cases packed ready to go on our cruise, tomorrow we travel down to Sounthampton to stay in a hotel for the night before our embarkation on Tuesday morning.

We got posh clothes to pack including my Tuxedo and Mrs. T’s long evening dresses, there are two formal nights on this cruise so we’ll need our posh clothes for them. Then there’s all our short, t shirts etc., for when we reach the warm weather in the Canaries. Thankfully on cruises you can take as much luggage as you want so no weight problems like on planes.

Must dash lots to do. TTFN.

Watched the Film, "Invasion of the Body Snatchers"  (1956) this afternoon. It is still one of the best creepy films ever made.

They should have made a sequel straight afterwards. The 1978 film of the same name had some sequel elements in it but it wasn't a full sequel.

This will be welcome news for all Boston fans that would like to see their team eventually progress to EFL status.

The club currently are struggling second from bottom of the national  league 5 points from safety after getting promoted last season.

Boston are on a good financial footing & would like to take the next step according to their Deputy Chairman.

Whether they stay in the national league or not, the plan will go ahead at the start of next season.

Personally I think it would be good to see Boston in the football league. This change would allow them to attract good players who could improve the team.

5 years since Covid impacted all our lives ☹️

Do you have any specific memories?

I’m glad to say I have no really bad memories we didn’t lose anyone to it or even have anyone ill, I do remember the fear of what might come and that was hard, fear for our loved ones.

We were 3 days into a holiday when lock down was announced and packed our bags and came straight home.

I do have happy memories of doing jigsaws to pass the time and walking the streets chatting at a distance.  Life seemed to slow down the roads were quiet it seemed so peaceful.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c798l9gz4y1o

I never felt I would live through something like COVID; it was a strange time. All the conspiracies got on my nerves, and I remember hating lockdown. The struggle to make sure you had food, etc, due to the demands created by the limits. I had a lot of discussions with supermarkets about getting Granny Pie and @super_ram theirs, as I worried that it would put them at risk.

It's not like my dad could just leave my mum alone while he fetched a large amount of shopping, nor did I think he would manage. @cheeky~k8, and I basically made sure to check if anything was needed. During the period when you were told to isolate, we didn't have a lot of interaction with them at first, but we would make sure to nip by with essentials. I remember going to Asda in Hyson Green/Radford, and seeing people with shopping trolleys filled with water and toilet roll. Some of the fighting I witnessed shocked me; it showed how brain-dead and selfish some people were. I also remember some local shops increasing their prices as a means to profit at the expense of those who might need them. These places I will never support by shopping in; I would rather walk further and support one that did not.

Going back to the memories of shopping, I thought to put my parents on the priority list for deliveries and, to be fair, Sainsbury's was the first to agree. ASDA and Tesco were very painful to deal with, as we spent most days constantly on the telephone. I also took to social media to highlight how my mum was bed-bound, and how my dad looked after her 24/7. Eventually, we got Tesco to agree, but they are a nightmare to deal with. Asda wasn't so bad, but there were still issues.

The positive aspect of the situation was ensuring they got food delivered to them, and I think those who handled deliveries were unsung heroes during the pandemic.

Whilst I hated having to queue in line with people, I got a sense of reality from going out. I also hated the period where @cheeky~k8 did all of the shopping, and refused to allow me to help because I was struggling with hEDS (hypermobile and dislocating joints).

Looking back, I am amazed how poor common sense was amongst most people and all the selfishness.

When the restrictions weren't so tight, and you would witness people sneezing/coughing without consideration for anyone else. Leaving used tissues on bus seats is both inconsiderate and thoughtless. Whilst mostly negative, I did feel it brought my family and some friends closer, for which I was very thankful, for that too, as it was a good distraction.

I had to work through the whole thing being classed as an essential worker delivering Milk.

It was a scary time not knowing that I would catch the COVID or not, but I was fortunate enough not to get it, neither did my wife.

Lots of others weren't so fortunate unfortunately.

I caught COVID twice; it wasn't very nice. It impacted my breathing and I had to use my inhaler again. Something I haven't done since I was about 13 or 14. For a period I was waking up in the middle of the night, being unable to breathe, which was later classified as 'long-term COVID'. It was horrible, and I felt terrible for those I know who got it. Two weeks doesn't sound all that bad to recover, but the chills and sweats, combined with tiredness and all the other nasty symptoms, I can understand why some were very cautious.

It didn't help insisting that children still had to go to school; this helped the spread, and there is not much some youngsters can do. They lack the preparation and maturity to deal with this sort of thing.

The worst thing that made COVID scary was that you didn't know what underlying conditions could cause more problems, and I know people who seemed healthy but passed away due to catching COVID. One of which was in their early 20s and a Notts fan. :(

@Robbie: I am glad you avoided it.

This could be taken the wrong way, which I would encourage people to hear me out before assuming I am picking at Matt Palmer.

I just wonder if his consistency in the way he performs and goes about ensuring he doesn't put a foot wrong limits his ability to be a standout for the Man of the Match, at the cost of his creativity?

Palmer is a superb midfielder and by far the best we have had in decades, he does go about the majority of his play quietly and has earned admiration for it. The amount of mistakes he makes is quite rare, and I think it is down to his approach to playing but I do wonder if the same method limits him from being seen as a regular Man of the Match candidate.

What I am suggesting, is he's safe and at the cost of being more creative which could lead to mistakes, he repeats the same process within games that makes him consistent and the player we all admire but at what cost?

  • Show previous comments  5 more
  • Yes I agree with you all, Matty Palmer is a great midfielder with the ability to get his foot on the ball and spread the ball around and keep play moving although I do wish and not just of Palmer but the midfield in general,  that we could mix it up a bit and try to sometimes play balls through the channels to players or to run on to or play the odd ball over the top for the forwards to run on to rather than always going out to the wings.

I get the reasoning behind the thoughts shared, but Matt Palmer is creative, and the only downside to his game, to me, is the lack of goals from him. Not all midfielders will be goalscorers, but he does everything we would want in a midfielder, and he does that well. I do think he's more overlooked because he is more consistently involved in scoring, but he does make passes which open up the play. A lot of the threaded passes which put someone else through to create an assist come from his forward thinking, so I think this is an element in him not being considered so much as Man of the Match material.

Yet he's usually among my candidates; it's just that I think we rely more on players in different ways, and he's someone who contributes defensively and in attack.

Whereas some other players tend to be more attacking-minded, a fair comparison to me would be just how involved Jacob Bedeau is when attacking. He does both well, yet his overlapping ability and means of getting forward are part of his exceptional game.

Palmer is used more as a player to transition play, to switch things up, and he commands the pace of play. Rather than being energetic, I think we know how important he is to our squad.
