  1. Tuesday Night's Fixtures:
    Norwich City v Bristol City
    Wolverhampton Wanderers v Ipswich Town
    Coventry City v Bury
    Port Vale v Rochdale
    Colchester United v Grimsby Town
    Wycombe Wanderers v Accrington Stanley

  2. Gary McSwegan now runs a charity called A&M training, an initiative which takes free soccer schools around Scotland.

Now there's a player who could really strike a ball. a la Harkouk

  3. Izale Mcleod broke his twitter silence and tweeted the following on Saturday: "What a ball from @carldickinson_3 yesterday to set up our goal #notts we've got good players we promise to be up there come end of season".

Alot of we's in there suggest he's staying. Looks like he is trying to build bridges with fans..

  4. Is anyone else worried about this shocking crowd for the first game of the season? I wasn't expecting many after Yeovil but this is surely one for the record books.

I've just had a look at our crowds for 2005-06, which was our second season in our last spell in this division. Back then, after a disappointing first season following relegation we put our faith in an experienced manager to turn things around (sound familiar?). His name was Gudjon Thordarson.

Our attendance for the first home game that season was 4382 against Wrexham. But that was on a Tuesday night! That season we actually got only one crowd lower than Saturday's - 3710 against Wycombe on 14 February, again a Tuesday. Saturday's attendance was actually worse than every single Saturday attendance in arguably our worst ever season. It's lower than all the curtain-openers under Thompson/McParland and compares with the very worst under McParland's reign of terror.

Hopefully we can get 3 points against Plymouth and kick on from there. Otherwise, I fear we're in for a record-breaking season.

  5. This will be a bigger test for Notts, I felt nervous on the day of the Stevenage game but this is something different.

If our defence and team allow Plymouth to attack, then fans will soon get annoyed and the awkward vibe which came back at times during Stevenage will be all the more present. Fingers crossed we will play wingers who are instructed to be direct - the passes will make the difference if we can manage to get shots on goal.

Play someone alongside Stead, let him drift and save his energy.

Get the defence to press, not flick and if they can - clear the ball. I don't care personally if the defence lumps the ball away, allow the midfield and attack to play the pretty stuff. I just want the defence to do their role and keep the pressure off Collins.

What would be your team? Predictions?

  6. Collin 5.5 – one decent save but looked hesitant in his decision making.

Audel 7 – strong in the challenge, good going forwards.

Laing 6 – got better as the game went on, missed two decent chances.

    Duffy 6 – generally solid.

    Dickinson 6 – reasonable performance.

Rodman 4.5 – awful pass to gift a goal, didn’t beat a man all night.  Lucky to last the 90 minutes.

Tootle 6 – busy in midfield, a few decent runs.

O’Connor 6 – quiet first half, did better in the second.

Aborah 6 – some good moments, tracked back a bit better.

Forte 5 – a couple of bursts of pace, but largely anonymous out wide.

Stead 8* - caused them problems throughout, superb individual goal.

Oliver 6 – won a few headers, set up one good chance.

Campbell 5 – typical Campbell – worked one good opportunity, blazed it over.

A definite improvement on Saturday’s performance, and we deserved a point at the very least.  Gifting a couple of soft goals yet again was more frustrating than the missed chances.

  7. Best wishes to all PON members.

I just want to wish you well for the coming season. It seems, from my perspective, that you are shaping up well and can look forward to a promising year.

There is always the dream that this could be a record breaking season for our team but for most of us these hopes will be dashed on Saturday evening.

Things at Swindon Town do not look good. Our squad is depleted, first choice centre back out injured for weeks, sole experienced striker rested due to fatigue during friendlies and no sign of additions on the horizon. We are a shadow of the side that doubled you two years back.

    Good luck on Saturday.

  8. This may sound harsh as he has talent, but he is totally unprofessional in his approach. His laziness in allowing a Scunny player to run round him in ET to win a free kick that lead to the first goal was very bad. However, what followed was an appalling attempt to blame all the other players, especially Dickinson for his error. Dicko (captian of course) went mad at him and Burke argued and then sulked winning no more challenges that night.

A team cannot carry a player who refueses to take responsibility for his own mistakes/failings. He will totally undermine team morale, and last night IMO cost Notts a possible cup win.

  9. Saturday's Fixtures:
    Leeds United v Birmingham City
    Wigan Athletic v Blackburn Rovers

    AFC Wimbledon v Bolton Wanderers
    Milton Keynes Dons v Millwall
    Exeter City v Hartlepool United
    Morecambe v Blackpool

    Good Luck all!

  10. Collin - 5.5 Yes made some good saves but never felt comfortable on crosses a la Mick Leonard
Audel - 7 Great saving block towards the end. MoM but still with occasional lapse in concentration at the back
Duffy - 5 Solid though slow
Hollis - 3 Overheard behind me in the Pavis..."Ref, do us a favour and send him off" says all you need to know!
Rodman - 5 Hard working but disappointed with quality of crossing
    Dickinson - 5 Solid
Aborah - 6 still the best passer, inexplicably squandered shooting chance in 2nd half
O'Connor - 6 Touch of class in short bursts
Tootle - 5 Ball winning midfielder but lacks creative need to balance this team
Stead - 5 Better 1st half but lack of pace exposed
Forte - 5 Drifted in and out
    Subs
    Burke 4 flatters to deceive
Hewitt 4 not what is required
Oliver 4 nice flick on but nothing else of note

  12. On the website and in the programmes so far, we have 1 director listed, i.e. Aileen, but no mentioin of Ray. This raises a nummber of issues/points in my mind.

Is the club still up for sale?

Is Ray taking any part in the running, or is it just Aileen?

Whoever it is I'd like the current situation to continue, there seems to be a degree of stability and no nasty rumours at present.

    Does anyone know anything  - @erindoors ??

  13. Tomorrow, Notts must play to win and put together a performance which impresses the home crowd - our season needs kick starting.

If we played to our potential, created chances and took the good opportunities which are presented, Notts should win in my opinion. However, I feel Stevenage will play on our weakness and I don't think we'll out match them. I'm more thinking of a narrow 1-0 win but overall a good performance. Fingers crossed the stands can play their part in creating atmosphere.

What do you think the score will be? Your team to start? COYP!

  14. Rhys sharpe and notts have mutually agreed to terminate his contract so he can find first team football elsewhere!

    http://mobile.nottscountyfc.co.uk/news/article/2016-17/notts-county-rhys-sharpe-3243525.aspx

Do you agree this was the right move for both parties or do you feel he should have been given a chance ?

  15. Will things really improve under the current ownership?

The club needs a fresh direction that is for sure, yet I feel becoming Port Vale's reserves and hiring John Sheridan simply papers over the cracks. Its early but already we have seen petty verbal fights break out and well I don't think we will achieve much. I hate to be a buzz kill but at this stage, I do not think lessons have been learned!

    Prove me wrong Notts.

  16. Contract mutually terminated per Notts twitter

  17. Will mellors-blair is still at notts and played in the friendly today (along side O'Connor who is fit for Saturday) and is now fit after a hamstring injury, but we still haven't announced that we have signed him despite him training with us and teasing fans on twitter!

We are waiting to hear back from 2 clubs regarding a defender!

One of which is believed to be Joe Worrall, a centre/right back, he's 19 and currently plays for forest but he played 14 tomes for Dagenham last season on loan!

Izale McLeod! Apparently clubs are interested in signing izale!

  18. Is there one? I hope so, we really need to ditch the away RED kit, really bad karma!!

  19. Collin 6.5 - Didn't really have much to do, and couldn't be faulted for their goals.

Audel 4 - Not a right back, simple as that and I hope Tootle moves there in the next game

Duffy 7 - Solid throughout against a decent striker in Van Veen

Hollis 7 - I know we all want a better player than Haydn in central defence but I thought he did OK last night, won everything he could in the air and on the ground and gave 100%. I think he prefers to play in a flat back four, and has always looked an OK defender with quality alongside him, Mullins, Laing, Duffy etc.

Dicko 7 - Proper old fashioned left-back display

Tootle 6.5 - Decent performance but lost the ball a bit too often

Smith 5.5 - Let Scunny play in the hole behind him a little too often but kept going for 65 minutes

Rodman 6.5 - Tried to get things going but our attack/midfield are new to each other and are not yet reading whcih passes/runs to make (yet)

Burke 1 - see other thread

Stead 4 - Passed it now I feel, great player and tries hard but should now start from the bench and not be in our best 11

Oliver 7 - Did everything except score, but I started to worry that this will be the story of every game he plays

    Subs

Campbell 5 - Ran around as usual, 100 % effort BUT can't score and we all saw at 0-1

Snijders 6 - As Campbell but I think he's better and should come on first of those 2 at present.

Atkinson 5 - Didn't do much, but didn't do much wrong either

Sheridan 7.5 - To be judged when we have a right back (Tootle), O'Connor is fit and he decides that his first choice attacks are at home and away. I did like the idea of a solid 4-4-2 away, we tried to win the game and could well have done so.

Scunthorpe United FC 8 - We enjoyed their very friendly hospitality, thank you, and had a good chat to Neal Bishop and Rodders and an excellent meal (and Ray and Aileen). Would give them a 9 but they desperately need the new ground asap.

  20. @Blackville and I will be there as guests of Scunny, so we'll have to be on our best behaviour!

I'm hoping for a few changes from the Glovers game, goalkeeper for a start and Eddy to centre back.

O@Connor in midfield if he's fit, and Forte and a pacy player up front - Snijders??
