  1. I felt disappointed yesterday with all the moans and groans. I have watched Notts for many years and have seen all the bad times: the foundation of Lifeline, which gave the club much-needed support, many relegations, and all the hassle from the last two ownerships. I don’t know why some people feel the need to be vocally disconcerting and get on the players’ backs over a pre-season friendly. It would be nice to have just one season where these fans kept quiet. There is no need for it. Why direct disrespectful comments to some of the younger squad members? They may have made mistakes, but they will learn. Will these fans be there the next time something happens where a bit of support is required?

There’s no need to be abusive during a friendly game. I could understand if it were a difficult league game like Swindon away and the players let the fans down, but not in this situation. I think some fans can’t help themselves, and while I would understand in rare circumstances, I still personally wouldn’t be abusive. However, if fans where I am sitting decide to pipe up, I will quickly tell them to pipe down. Call it out; if you don’t feel comfortable being direct, tell a steward.

There is absolutely no need for abusive behaviour. I am glad that the Forest friendly turned out to be a better experience for me. The people near me were very encouraging, which was good to see. There is no excuse for negative behaviour, and I don’t believe real fans would resort to that. Let’s hope that the fact that people are willing to call them out will deter them from doing it.

I've ended up in rows on a number of occasions where I have told people to cool it only to be told 'I paid my money, I can say what I want'.  I don't buy that and say so.  It usually ends up in a heated discussion!!

  5. On Tuesday 25th July Notts County travel the short distance up the A38 to play Alfreton Town in a pre season friendly.

How many links between the clubs can we find, players, managers, coaches etc.

Here’s one to start us off, Shaun Harrod started his career with Notts in 2002 and was a player with us until 2005, he later joined Alfreton in 2014 making 16 appearances scoring 7 goal, he returned to Notts in 2014 making 12 appearances and scored 2 goals.

Over to you how many more can we find.

  9. On Saturday 22nd July Notts County travel to Boston to take on the Pilgrims.

How many players, managers it coaches etc., can we name that are linked to both clubs?

I’ll start off with two former Notts players who became managers with Boston.

Arthur Mann managed Boston between 1984-1986 and he was succeeded by another former Notts player RayO’Brien who managed them between 1986-1987.

Yes, I have seen him doing that work too. He recently gave an interview in which he expressed his desire to do commentary for the World Cup or the FA Cup. I am saddened and a bit disappointed to see Charlie Slater leave his role with BBC Radio Nottingham. He did well covering Notts and one might have thought he would stay a little longer to see where Notts ended up. However, being a family man and eager to advance his career, I don’t blame him and I wish him well.

It’s always sad to see someone who has spent several years in and around the club leave, and being a commentator is no exception. His chemistry with Mark Stallard will be missed. I don’t think anything of his decision to pursue his dreams, I wish him well, but I understand that some fans may feel differently. Let’s just try to wish him all the best.

I think it might be between four teams until at least next year. I can’t see one team running away with it, but I do believe Chesterfield should be the favourites. I secretly hope they struggle and end up bottling the playoffs. I would like them to break Wrexham’s exile record from the Football League. It would teach their idiot fans.

    3. allardyces tash

      allardyces tash

I think we might end up being surprised by how other teams give Oldham and Chesterfield a run for their money. I can see Chesterfield’s attempt at buying themselves out of the league failing, if I’m perfectly honest. I just have this feeling that they will bottle it and end up in the playoffs.

I personally hope Chesterfield go up, I have friends who are Chesterfield fans, it’d be great for Notts, Chesterfield and Mansfield in the same league, assuming Notts don’t go up to league one of course.

  13. This a curious post to see if, other than Notts, is there a team that people follow or keep an eye out for results?

For me, I follow Orlando City and keep an eye out on how Coalville Town are doing.

When Sky Sports started broadcasting the MLS on a regular basis, I was regularly tuning in to watch games (any chance to watch football I took tbf). So when more and more teams started becoming part of the MLS I wanted a team to follow over in the States. Having been to Orlando on multiple occasions and having a real fondness for the place, I thought it fitting to follow Orlando City. Been following them for about 7 or 8 years now. One day I'd love to go back to Orlando and hopefully go see them play.

As for Coalville, I've been to see them numerous times as their ground is about a 20 minute walk away from where I live. Due to them being local, I often keep an eye out to see how they're doing and go down to watch them with the kids whenever I can.

The only time I've been against Coalville when watching them was when they came to the San Sirrel in the FA Cup. Imagine the journey I would've had on the way back from Nottingham to Coalville with my lad. I was dreading it, my lad had a Notts County hat and scarf on that day but fortunately not much in terms of Coalville fans while making the journey home 😅

Doesn't everyone have a favourite Scottish side?  For me, it's Partick. And even though they're non-league now, I look out for East Stirlingshire's result  (black and white stripes, named after the county, second team in the smallest city to have two teams).
My name on here is a clue that I was born in Lincoln, and Graham Taylor's league 4 winning team in 1976 was my first football memory.  But I'd moved to Notts a year later and was a bit of a Liverpool fan, so I refused to convert to Forest.  My first game at Meadow Lane was to see Liverpool and gradually one thing led to another.  Also have a soft spot for Darlington as it's my Dad's home town and I went to a lot of games at Feethams as a kid.
My local team is Framlingham Town and I get to a few games there as well.

Now that everything's out in the open and Dele's getting himself back on track, I hope that this is his rise back into being the player he had the ability to become. He's still got some years in him.

It's also great to see him being so open with Neville and sharing some very personal issues he's had to deal with from a young age that many people might not be aware of and how he dealt with them which hopefully encourages more people to talk, get help and be able to open up more about things rather than dealing with issues the wrong way.

I’ve seen the interview and read a bit about it. I am hoping Dele Alli can move beyond his struggles and make a comeback. Clubs don’t always know what’s going on, and sometimes people just don’t know how to help. I’m not justifying Spurs.

    3. allardyces tash

      allardyces tash

I haven’t seen the full interview, but I don’t really need to watch it to understand that he has had difficulties. Spurs might not have known completely what Dele Alli was experiencing. It’s normal for people suffering from depression to put on a brave face and the communication between them most likely wasn’t the best. I do feel that more support should have been given, but at least he found that at Everton. I think once he realises his demons don’t control him, his football should return to the standard it was before and hopefully, the experience makes him stronger. Not that I believe depression has made him weak; it does give someone a lot to learn from though.

    4. upthepies

      upthepies

It’s a good interview, and I am pleased to see Dele Alli feeling comfortable enough to sit on camera and discuss his troubles, as it can bring things flooding back. I wish him well in his career and time with Everton, and hopefully both he and the club can push on.

      Chris

I wished the interview was filmed, but David Jackson has done brilliantly with the interview. The BBC's style in reporting interviews is very detailed and, I like that. It's not a one or two subject focused interview but gives a great insight.

It's also good to see Kyle's comments on the recruitment, which has been excellent and being more prepared for life in League Two.

I appreciate the way Kyle expresses his opinions. He is a leader on the pitch and has provided us with many great memories during his time here. Poor Barnsley, I am glad that they have been charged because these things shouldn’t happen. When they need the help of the EFL, they will go running, as will other clubs, but when it comes to abiding by rules to keep the game safe, that’s a different thing!

    3. NottsTastic

      NottsTastic

The EFL must proceed with the charges even if the board at Barnsley has changed. Otherwise, other clubs may be tempted to disrespect the rules, and things will become harder to control. I hope they punish them quite strictly, as it will deter others.

    4. Nocturnal-Magpie

      Nocturnal-Magpie

The fact that they have been caught is highly suspicious and I do not recall reading any expressions of concern from their fans. The situation with Notts is not really comparable as that was a single season and the EFL actively sought answers which ultimately led to the unraveling of the scam, even more so than Sol Campbell did. This has been ongoing since 2017 and spans multiple seasons.

  18. I’m not sure if it’s just me or if it’s due to streaming and having everything just a download away. When I was younger, I would have the urge to watch certain films. I would put in a VHS tape or later, a DVD. I own quite a lot of films, all of which were favourites of mine in some way or another. Sometimes, I think about a film I haven't seen in a long time and eventually, I can't resist the temptation to watch it. However, these days I don’t think much about films I have seen. I rarely watch DVDs any more since everything is available for streaming. What is your experience?

There was a period where I would watch something I previously enjoyed at least once or twice a week, but now it’s more like every 3–6 months. It’s a habit I really need to break. Halloween and Christmas are the only exceptions, as we enjoy watching Hocus Pocus and Home Alone 1 and 2.

Is it just me? Is it an age thing? Share your thoughts below.

I don't watch many movies/films but if i do, most of the time they are either on the tv channels or from streaming. I remember using VHS and then dvds as i got to about my teenage years. I havent paid for streaming of films/movies as i would just wait to watch it for free or if i really wanted to see it i would go to the cinema(on the rare occasion) and even then we tend to wait for it to be when its been out for abit so its quieter.

I do however collect cds by some bands but stream most of my music using youtube music on my phone. My hifi system to play cds on hasnt been set up again for years. I struggled to listen to music for years due to my constant sinus headaches and migraines but with better pain killers, i am slowly able to listen to it again.

I would welcome him back here, and I do think he could push for the first team, but he would need to be allocated a lot of time in games for this to happen anytime soon.
