i went to look for the other parts but could not find anything further on this. it might been wiser to comment them all in a row. i would have liked to understand it more. i will add he seems to have an interesting account.

So this is the crunch time for England. They are Scheduled to play Slovakia in the last 16 of Euro 24 at 5 pm BST on Sunday evening.

Can England get through to the quarter finals? England may have won their group, but they have stuttered through the games they played & flattered to deceive as they really struggled to show any cohesion in those three games.

England will need to up the ante against Slovakia if they are to progress to the next round.

England will be hoping they can.

If England do get through they will meet Switzerland, who impressed against a below par Italy side in their last sixteen match today.

A good insight to what they see as an England tactical issue by Peter Petrov & Hancock Analysis.

It's alright having the best players but should they be placed in the same positions as they are for their clubs just for the sake of it for instance?

Problem is, these players might be playing in similar positions for England but the other players are different, as is the overall balance of the England side, compared to their club side.

So therefore those players may not perform as well as they do for their club side.

Do PON members see any tactical issues with the England team that could jeopardise England's chances of going far in Euro 24?

There are many headaches for our next game. I hope Luke Shaw is ready to join in. The suspensions will mean changes. I hope England adapts.

Personally, I think Luke Shaw should be sent on the plane home. Hasn't played since February and not played a part in the previous 4 games. We can't be bringing in a player who's had a lack of football like he has into a quarter final match. We've already been underperforming without a semi fit left back.

I would rather see Kane up the field leading the attack and not being in his own penalty area half the time.

England are supposed to have World beating midfield players, so why is the Manager giving Kane, what amounts to be a free role.

Cloughie would say " Young man, I pay you to stick the ball in the net so get up that pitch and do just that, or I'll pay someone else who will"

Fully agree. Let the midfielders do their thing, focus on your own job being up top and get the goals. Shearer has wrote a column on the fact Kane should be staying forward. It's annoying to see how deep he drops.

There's been a few comments about how England don't provide enough for him but it's hard to provide a striker who's never in the box to receive the balls.

Southgate should be strictly instructing him to stay up and avoid dropping deep but the fact that he drops deep every game speaks volumes that Southgate is allowing him to do this.

Either instruct him to stay up top or bring someone like Toney or Watkins to partner him so he can drop deep leaving one player up.

Something’s got to give, but the new faces could be a boon. If Cole Palmer doesn’t make the team, I’d be gutted because he’s been exceptional every time he’s played.

Sad to see him go but probably for the best.

  • @super_pie was telling me about him as we watched Germany vs. Scotland. Supposedly, the German manager told him he was wanted, whereas Gareth Southgate wasn't as bothered. Jake's also mentioned how he's good friends with Jude Bellingham. It's a shame we are losing this type of talent, because he could be making us stronger as a nation.

That said, if it's true that Germany showed more desire for him to play for them - I completely understand.

Would have loved Musiala to have selected England over Germany but unfortunately Germany offered him the opportunity where as England didn't do that. He's a world class talent that's able to showcase his ability for them, I'm not sure he'd have gotten a look in with the England set up as it stands. He'd probably be like Cole Palmer with the ability but only enough to see him sit on the bench and look on. Unfortunately, he probably made the right decision.

Nottingham RFC play in the Championship, English Rugby's  2nd tier. .

Is that because You walk around with Your Head Stuck Up Your Arse then Gareth? How can he Not be Aware of the Disgruntled feelings of England Fans and Football Pundits?

  • @Chris I think that's why  @Robbie and myself think Jack's move to Man City wasn't the right one for him.  Sine Pep's got hold of him, Well let's just say it's A disappointment. I think that  Jack is much better off in a weaker team, that is where he's the Star Turn at City he's surrounded by other Top Players and this I think as made him Lazy. At Villa they relied on him they needed him, and by Far was their Best Player. With that Pressure he seemed to Thrive, but remove that Responsibility and well we've all seen the Result.

Despite that I still think Southgate should have taken him to Germany (my opinion) because even if Jack was on the Bench he would still be an impact player. As I've stated before it wouldn't Surprise me, to see Jack move in the Next Transfer Window.

gareth southgate will be aware of comments, i am sure he will be trying to avoid them but its impossible. football does not treat people very kindly when it turns ugly, nobody can say he does not try and just be things are different under him. the performance have not been great. the personal attacks, the verbal abuse and idiot behaviour towards him is unacceptable. criticism is fair, but the other side is not that.

england wont sack a manager mid way through the tournament.

similar to when things turn ugly at notts, all it does is add pressure and makes worse. its very ugly and whilst i think fans should be able to express themselves, they should show a bit more support at times.

Today showed we have better in-form players who deserve to be there ahead of Jack Grealish. Personally, I think his partying spirit has affected his game, not Manchester City. He should be making a big impact but is now failing to even make their team.

I thought I'd write this Topic before it became Out of Date, due to England being Knocked out of the Euro's. But the badge on the ENGLAND Shirt is Wrong. Now before People start saying you're Barmy or Go and put your Tin foil Hat On, Let Me Explain.

I'm a Bit of an History Buff and one of my Main Interests is Heraldry, and being an Artist (who has Sold Art, but It wasn't my full time Job) the Designs that have been Drawn and Painted over the Centuries has been an Interesting Hobby of Mine.

Now I'm Not Going To Bore You To Tears by giving you along Drawn out History of Heraldry. Just to say that Heraldry was used for the Identification of Knights in Battle and who was on who's side. Each Knight had a Particular Design on his Shield  and Coat of Arms which showed his Loyalty to His King or Lord. And the Animals emblazoned on their Shields looked a lot Different to the real thing.

So the Real England Badge is what you see on his Majesty's Coat of Arms in the First and Fourth Quarters of the Royal Shield  the Colouring is as Follows. I'll write the Colours in Non Heraldic Wording.

A Shield with a Red Background with Three Golden Lions  Walking Looking Outwards. However the Three Lions were called Leopards. Which looked nothing like the Real Animal, and resembled the Lion much More. They were renamed as Lions by Richard I (the Lion Heart) and these  Golden Lions on a Red Background have been used by all Sovereigns since that time. Which means the Current England Badge of Blue Lions on a White Background is Wrong. The Flowers on the Present Badge are the Red and White Tudor Roses which were brought together by Henry VII from the Red Rose of Lancashire and the White Rose of Yorkshire, after the War of The Roses.

Now if You're still Awake, it's a good Job the Lion Heart Changed the name. Frank Skinner Sing Three Leopards On His Shirt, Doesn't Quite Have the Same Ring To It.

The Reason why Jane Grey was only referred to as Lady Jane was the fact she was Edward VI cousin and Not a member of the Royal Family as a Child of Henry VIII would have been. Where as Edward VIII was Prince of Wales and the Heir to King George V.  And was Pronounced King on the Death of His Father. The same happened to Edward V  heir to Edward IV,  ( one of the Princes in the Tower) who ruled as King for two months, before being over thrown by his Uncle Richard Duke of Gloucester who became Richard III (The King in the Car Park).

My Favourite Pub (when I was old enough to drink) was called the White Lion, in  Long Eaton. Went back for the first time in 40 years a few Weeks ago. Obviously it's changed in that time, but Not For The Better In My Opinion. A once thriving Pub, it's now one of those  Stale Plastic Oldie Worldly  Real Ale Pubs, with No Atmosphere and very little going for it.

There are many Shady characters who were in the Employ of English Sovereigns or the People who "Advised" the King or Queen Robert Cecil Queen Elizabeth's Spy Master was one such person, who hired people to  work as Servants in the Houses of People that were Deemed to be Traitors who would bring harm to the Queen or Replace the English Monarch with the Scottish Catholic Mary Queen of Scots. Then of course there was the ever looming threat of the Spanish, so a Spy Network was an essential to help Protect and Serve the Queen and to Keep all ills away from her Person.

Another story (unproven) was that Robert Dudley 1st Earl of Leicester who was one of Elizabeth Favourites and a contender for the Queen's hand in Marriage had someone approach Cecil on his behalf to have his First Wife Murdered, so he could be Free to marry the Queen. Dudley's first wife was found dead at the bottom of a Staircase. However such was the scandal surrounding the Death, and the rumours of Dudley's involvement in his wife's Death, it became impossible for him to Marry the Queen. Eighteen Years after his first wife's Death, Dudley married for a second time upon hearing this Elizabeth promptly banished her from Court.

    @liampie

Kate Blanchett played Queen Elizabeth and Joseph Fiennes Dudley in the film Elizabeth ,

Helen Mirren and Jeremy Irons played the parts in a TV Series.

Another interesting story is the one between Elizabeth and another of her Favourites

Robert 2nd Earl of Essex.. But that's for another time.

It appears that clubs are now opting for unique websites. Personally, I had a preference for the old design. The new one seems a bit sophisticated, almost as if it’s meant for a restaurant or hotel.

I’m confident that it will grow on me in time. You can spot the difference by visiting the websites of other league teams, such as Hartlepool United. The website of Grimsby Town looks rather appealing.

I’m uncertain about the extent of Notts’ involvement in the new design.

  • The site is fine, as was the old one. There’s not much difference aside from the design and navigation. If it makes the online shop and other features more streamlined, then it will be a good thing. I just wish the ticketing system was better; even TicketMaster is dreadful.

Yes, it appears to be a nice design. I particularly like the menu area as it has a very modern look. I’ve noticed a few issues, but they’re easy to overlook. However, the club’s request for fans to report issues might be something they regret, given how particular some people can be.

For those who hate stats, and are only concerned by the wins & losses look away now!

You can look at them and see how we rank compared to other teams here: https://www.fotmob.com/en-GB/teams/9819/stats/notts-county/teams

I’ve picked out a few eye-catching ones, it starts off really bad and gets slowly better, so…

We rank as the worst team in the league when it comes to:

Penalties conceded: 17!
That’s 8 more penalties than the next worse who were Walsall with 9! The average is about 6 so we’ve basically given away 11 goals!

Possession won in the final third: 2.8 (times per match).
Now this really surprised me, because this is supposed to be a big part of our style of play but statistically we were the worst at it! I guess when the board referenced defending from the front this is the type of thing they were referring too. Mansfield were the best with an average of 5.1.

We made the least number of successful tackles, 6.3 per match. The next worse side were Sutton and there’s a bit of a jump as they scored 7.8. The average is about 9.5 here.

Also, we only ranked 15th when it came to touches in the oppositions box. Interestingly Mansfield, Wrexham and Stockport were the top 3 here, so this is something that would seemingly need to improve next season.

We were 1st for accurate passes 526.4 per game, in fact we were considerably higher than anyone else and made over 100 more accurate passes per game than MK who were 2nd. Interestingly, Wrexham, Mansfield, Stockport and Crawley were all in the top 7.

We all know that attacking wise the stats were very good, but clearly there's lots to improve on that will help push up the table next season; the possession won in the final third, our tackling and not giving away almost 20 penalties will help massively!

  • @Chris sometimes I do have some topics for the forum but they can end up being a bit long winded and I think, who’s going to want to read all that! So I usually end changing quite a bit and cutting a lot of thoughts out just to make them snappy and more as a discussion starter! I’m probably suited to churning out a couple of articles every now and again, so yes I’d be more than happy to contribute.

PS. I know what it's like posting long comments, sometimes I just throw caution to the wind. ????

I hope so. I think if we do well enough, next season we might see a few more successes. This time it really shows how well we did. We had the highest assist maker and the highest goalscorer.

International football teams don't play regularly like club football teams do.

When Clubs try to sign the best players they usually sign just one or two at a time, so the balance of the side is not really affected.

New players attend training and are moulded into the side over a period of time, not always, some are selected straight away, but a side can easily absorb that new player.

With the vast majority of international sides, the Manager selects the best players from that Country and tries to mould them into a successful team

So can the squad of an international side numbering 25 of the best players be coached & moulded into a great team, with the majority of the work done on the training ground?

Or should the manager pick players, that may not be technically as good, but have a great attitude, have great commitment, energy for & are better team players?

I believe the latter because at the end of the day, football is a team game & yes, its ok to have a few of the best players to form a focal part of the team, ie, build the team around them, but as I said, superior team players with good attitude, that are of good quality, but not necessarily the best, could be the best option, to mould into a good side to win tournaments.

  • Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea (06-18) all identify the best players and go out of their way to sign them. It generally works, but some of the best players in the world don't always work well. Sometimes you need a dependant player, that might not be the best but does exactly what you want.

    England has a good squad.

Defensively, I think it's a lot more promising with Marc Guéhi. I think he's a far better defender than John Stones or Harry Maquire combined. He's settled well into this squad, but when you push good players to play in weaker areas due to a lack of cover there. Such as Kieran Trippier who has done well on the left side and can play the position - this tournament I just wished we played him on the right where he's extremely far more lively.

Midfield wise we are extremely blessed, and I think the best players we have in this department can work well together, provided they keep a better shape and make movement. Rather than remaining stagnant and merely staring into space.

You have to make the best players you have accountable, push them and ensure you can get the best out of them. Otherwise, it's just wasted potential.

    @Chris

    @Wheelbarrow repair man

As an example, Jude Bellingham has been lauded as the best England player we have and is also touted as currently the best player in Europe and is being mentioned as being in the same page as Ronaldo & Messi

I've seen Messi quite a lot playing for his club and internationally, and I can't remember him having a poor match. If he didn't score, he was till an influence on the pitch.

Bellingham has had a poor tournament to date. He scored England's only goal in the first group match and he played reasonably well in the that match too, but in the next two he looked ordinary.

I don't want to say he is overrated because he is clearly a gifted player, but as in any sport such as tennis for instance, talent is one thing but the head has to be tuned in too.

For me Bellingham looks out of it mentally at this time, his reaction to the rough treatment he was getting was telling, & he looked frustrated too.

jude bellingham looks like a great player with no end of potenial but the last two games he has been virtually invisible. players like him need to be game chargers, have that spark that makes things happen. we have a talented squad and some of the best players in the world but that does not mean they will be great when playing together.

Scotland are out of Euro 24 after losing to Hungary with virtually the last kick of the match.

Scotland were denied a clear penalty with just three minutes to go. The referee said no to a penalty and the incident didn't even go to VAR, which is inexplicable.

The BBC pundits all agreed that it should have been a penalty. If VAR is supposed to be there to check if a Ref makes a mistake in penalty decisions, why are there inconsistencies with VAR?

Overall, Scotland just didn't do enough in the game from the possession they had. They lacked quality up front and didn't really threaten the Hungary goal till the last ten minutes of the game.

Did anyone see the game and if you did what  are your views on Scotland?

  • Scotland has always suffered from the fact that their League system is so weak

They have two sides in Rangers & Celtic who would struggle to get out of the Championship and the rest of the Premier League is top of English League 1 standard only.

The rest of the teams outside their Premier League, some of our National league sides would beat them.

And because more & more foreigners are coming in, the Scottish players get less & less game time & have to come to England.

Scotland used to rely on big name players in the past, who played in the old first divisions like Dalglish, McLeish, McStay, McCoist, Robertson, Law & McAlister when they used to beat England quite often.

Scotland had a shot at advancing, but after their initial loss to Germany, I always felt it wouldn’t materialise. It was a crushing defeat, marked by the most defensive football I’ve seen all tournament. In their second game, they should have strived to maintain their lead against the Swiss. Instead, they narrowly avoided a loss, as they were outplayed in the final 20 minutes.

If Armstrong hadn't have grabbed Orban's shirt, I think that was the element of doubt that prevented the penalty being given

i think the referee seen it has two players coming together, armstrong does have a hold of the player but he also puts his left knee/foot out in an aggerated way that makes me think he knew he would be brought down. i am not sure its a penalty, because what can the defender do? hes not going to magically stop running.

the slow down really does show the defender made no intention to bring him down, it was forced due to movement.

armstrong may have done better to naturally shield the ball and remove his arms from the defender, as he could have got a shot away or made the defender react in a way that was to bring him down. not two players coming together because one saw the opportunity to come together.

  • Very Good Point @Robbie  perhaps the only Comfort we Fans can take is the statement from Richard Montague , when he and Joe Palmer appeared on the Magpie Circle pod cast, in which he stated  Notts don't have to sell Players and it take a Huge Offer to Prise Macca from the Lane. Also take Comfort that Macca doesn't want to Leave. But every Player has his Price, and according to some Reports Macca is already on his way to Millwall , with only Personal Terms to be Agreed.

If that's the case (and it's a Big If)  you  would have thought the Club would have come out with a Statement on the matter  By saying Nothing would be totally  Unprofessional and I wouldn't call the Notts Board Unprofessional.

    @Wheelbarrow repair man

Possible reason for the silence? Season ticket sales. Maybe by making him captain they wanted to boost season ticket sales too.

There's been a big push for season ticket sales during the last week before the cheaper renewal deadline expires.

I wonder if the sales are behind last year's figures.Notts need to be open and honest with supporters if Macca is on the point of going.

i noticed that @ARLukomski tweeted this, its a shame but we did a similar thing by gutting our promotion winning team and its not always the best idea. obviously teams are coming in for the crawley players, but its going to be hard for them to stay up in league one imo. i really think they will struggle and its a shame because they had done so well together.

So here we are, another weekend beckons, what’s happening in your life?

At the moment Mrs T is cooking one of her famous home made curries made with paneer, it smells lovely.

Tomorrow I’m hoping to do my 100th park run, I’ve had a dodgy knee but I think it’s ok now so I’ll give it a go.

Sunday I’ll be watching the match no doubt shouting at the telly.

Whats everyone else up to?

  • As for me, I can’t say I have anything thrilling planned. I’ll probably be watching whatever games are on TV. The rest of my plans will depend on the weather. If it’s nice, I might treat myself to a Sunday dinner at the local pub.

tomorrow i have no idea, i have been hoping to get back on my bike and go out on it. its been a bit too warm for that, though it would be nice to explore some of the parks in and around nottingham playing pokemon go.

sunday, i have to fetch my mums shopping and take my aunt to derby, so that she can go to this event thing.

Gateshead but rumoured to be on Notts' radar

  • I don’t think we can really judge Richardson from his time with us! One game just isn’t enough to get a fair reflection of his ability. I don’t think we’ve signed any of the players we’ve been linked with so far, but if you throw enough names out there someone will get one right at some point!

I can’t say I’ve seen much of him but he’s featured regularly for Gateshead and the fact he's linked with a host of clubs higher up is reassuring (assuming a few are true). But then all our defenders struggled with the step up from the NL, this would be my concern with Richardson too.

I’ve seen him play several times for Gateshead. He has grown into his role there and has the potential to be a good signing. However, I don’t think it would be beneficial for him unless he continues to get regular game time. With the new signings and players like Lewis Macari and Kyle Caermon leaving, some players might find their opportunities limited, and Kenton Richardson could suffer from a lack of game time. It would be like re-signing Alex Lacey with no intention of playing him.
