  • I believe this is a matter that requires careful consideration. Being a British citizen shouldn’t automatically grant the right to remain in our country, especially when serious crimes have been committed. His citizenship could be revoked, but it might depend on whether he emerges as a reformed individual. I’m all for offering someone a second chance. He might have been under pressure, leading to a series of unfortunate events. If he manages to lead a better life upon release, then it’s acceptable. Otherwise, we shouldn’t have to tolerate his presence in the UK.

@Joshua Just think we can solve our overcrowded prison system at a stroke! Just deport everyone of them???? :rollonfloorlaughing: Australia was the choice in bygone days!

    However under the law:

"It is important to note that British Citizenship can be removed from a person born in the UK or outside the UK, but only if they hold citizenship of another country – i.e. it can only be revoked where a person would not be left “stateless”.

When mistakes in transfers which can cost hundred and thousands of £ , pruning club staff can seem very harsh

  • i watched something where it said that manchester united needed more stewards, i think this was a few years ago and in a documentary. it highlighted the staff quite well, with people talking about sir alex ferguson and other things before the current owners arrived. what i find worrying is they probably wont stop spending silly fees.

meanwhile regular people relying on their jobs to pay the bills, wont be able to have the luxury of retaining their jobs.

How does letting go of canteen staff and other employees help Manchester United allocate more funds for their first team? The weekly wages of their lowest-paid player could likely cover a month’s salary for all these workers.

it shows some transfer clauses can be smart, unlike some of the ones we have placed on players in the past who have been signed for free. i hated when we used to do that and justify a gamble in return that the club would not release the player in order not to pay us a fee.

I see your point and I agree with you that lower teams should be given good fees. Unfortunately bigger clubs, who have the money at their disposal, take advantage of lower league clubs need for money that's why they often get players cheaper than they perhaps should. They could always negotiate a deal and some clubs manage to secure this like I believe Birmingham got handed a fee due to Jude Bellingham winning the Champions League with Real Madrid. However, negotiating a deal could lead to a bigger club pulling out of the deal which means that money that was needed by the lower club they won't be able to get.

Gary Lineker has told a story about his transfer to Everton many times on his podcasts. Clubs unable to agree a fee would have to go to a tribunal and each manager would have to make a case of what they believe is a fair value for a player. Howard Kendall, manager of Everton at the time, said that Lineker wasn't as good as they made out and he'd probably sit on the bench most of the time. Because of this Everton paid a lower price than it should have been. Afterwards Lineker started doubting his move to which Kendall reassured him that he was gonna be his main striker and he only said all that to pay a lower fee.

Gary Linekar was signed to replace Andy Gray, who was a much loved figure at Everton. Gray left to re-sign for Aston Villa and in that same season, he arrived at Meadow Lane on loan. Colin Harvey played a big role in Everton paying £800,000 to Leicester City, which was a considerable fee for him.

Howard Kendall backed Linekar, who had already scored 15 goals before Christmas.

The Everton fans, however, didn't take to him until he had scored against Manchester United and Sheffield Wednesday later in the season. Even at £300,000, it wouldn't have been a bad deal. The tribunal did make it fairer, as the fee Barcelona paid was somewhat inflated by having done well at two clubs.

Any tribunal decision on a youngsters fee should be a fair fee, clubs who are unhappy that a player goes on to be sold at a higher profit - sometimes don't take into consideration that players can only get better with time, facilities, better coaches and players.

Another big point here is that the big clubs are taking a lot of the young talent even though they have no intention of playing them.

These young footballers are then farmed off to the lower divisions as loanees to make money from them.

Young players should be allowed to improve, as they used to do in the past, with the clubs where they learned their trade & would get lots of football time.

Players like David Needham & Brian Kilcline, who did their apprenticeship with Notts and went on to win Silverware with Forest (Needham) and Coventry (Kilcline).

  • its in line with most clubs our size and have ambitions just like us. it makes it more value to renew and get the best price, do fans who pay the higher amount get a chance to make it cheaper next season? i dont understand completely how the early bird deal works at notts. its a bit confusing and my worry is that the loyalty scheme might just add further headaches.

i went to every game last season home and away, so i think it will effect me.

i do feel the family club feel might fall wayward with these prices as not many families who are not season ticket holders could justify so much money being spent on a football game when the cost of living is still high itself.

Offering a membership is a good incentive to get people to attend games on a more regular basis. As someone who isn't able to attend many games, the price doesn't put me off I think given how rising costs have gone elsewhere, it's still an OK price to pay considering I'll only at best be able to make a handful of games per season.

I don’t think the scheme is a bad thing as it does at least offer fans who go regularly a chance to save a bit, I agree it’s pretty pointless for the casual fans though not only will they lose money but these are ones who’ll take more a financial hit now. It could potentially deter last minute purchases, I guess the attendances over the season will show us if it's been a success or not.

I get that the club can justify the price hike, by saying it brings us in-line with the other clubs. But just because everyone does something, it doesn’t mean it’s always right… We could’ve gone the other way and been a tad cheaper. Create a big marketing campaign about Notts being one of the cheapest places to watch league football. It would’ve been an easy sell, you can just brag and even have a little dig at Forest, especially given what’s going on with their prices hikes. It’s mad they have to pay £99 for a membership to get guaranteed access for a home ticket and you don’t even get a discount on that!

  • I think Vic Centre is a good location for a shopping centre that has a bus stop and car park. I think it would be more busy than it is now if there was a train station. The surrounding area is a nightmare at times to get out of by transport.

I'm glad they went with it, though I do at times think about the other station(s) thanks to people on here.

Nottingham Train Station always amazed me, until they put the glass frontage in, and now I think it's been ruined. I can remember my grandfather picking @super_ram as the taxi's waited inside.

nottingham sometimes feels like certain parts could have been chosen better, but i think the current train station is fine because its near to things that makes sense.

i cant imagine vic centre being anything different.

I remember as a boy going to Victoria and Midland Stations with my Dad to look at the Steam Locomotives.

You could buy a Platform ticket then and stay as long as you liked Train spotting.

I can remember being so excited to see the trains. Would have loved a mobile phone to take loads of photos.

When you think about how much it costs to lay a mile of track nowadays, and they tore up thousands of miles of track after Beeching, you do wonder how they could have made such a massive mistake closing down all those lines.

I’ve just watched a video of fans celebrating the England goal in the nest, it seems the latest fad is to chuck your beer up in the air. I’d have thought the price they pay for it they wouldn’t want to throw it away or is the beer that bad?

I’m glad I wasn’t there, I don’t fancy getting a beer shampoo.

We come to game nine of the County Championship for Nottinghamshire as the take on Lancashire at Southport, starting at 11am.

Notts have won the toss and will bowl. Notts team ????

  • It was a pleasant catch-up, and it was nice to hear his opinions on the new arrivals. I would have preferred if this had been done after all the recruitment was completed, but there’s always the possibility that the club will conduct another. I’m curious to know Stuart Maynard’s views on all the new signings. I’m delighted to see him looking cheerful and better prepared!

Get behind the club, and hopefully Stuart Maynard. What do we have to lose?

I accept opinions, but I find it sad how some people are still criticising Stuart Maynard. Do these fans just want to be right for the sake of credibility? There's no need for negativity now.

Hmm, not sure about Thursday night fixtures.

Unfortunately I also have a clear memory of that match. In fact I don't think Peter Bonetti ever played for England Again. I know Bobby Charlton said in his Autobiography on the flight back home from Mexico, Alf Ramsey came and sat with him and said Thankyou for all your efforts for England. He said I knew then my England career was over. Another Quote about the same match came from Franz Beckenbauer the German Captain. England were 2-0 at half time and Ramsey took Bobby Charlton off, to rest him for the Semi Final. We couldn't believe it Charlton was running everything in Mid Field and England take their Best Player Off, this gave us the advantage and determination to go on and Win The Match. Which they Did.

Save of the tournament. It's definitely up there and in the conversation for one of the greatest match saving saves of all time. It's remarkable how some people are now re-analysing it and downplaying just how good the save was in the importance of the occasion.

As far as comparing it to Gordon Banks v Brazil, I see where people are coming from but wouldn't put it in the same category myself.

I think who ever wrote the Piece about the Save Got a Wee Bit Over Excited. And I think there are other Saves available to watch on You tube which are as Good. Like it's been Stated it was the headed Save and the Excitement of that the Save which got Turkey through to the next round which  perhaps brought out the Banks comparison. But Really there is No Comparison. Despite an Excellent Stop, it's No where near as Good As The Banks One.

Latest from the England Camp. UEFA are looking at a gesture made by Jude Bellingham. Apparently he Grabbed his Crutch in Front of the Slovakia Bench after his Late equalizer in the England vs Slovakia Game. According to him it was an inside Joke aimed at some friends who were in the Crowd. However this isn't the First time he's made the Gesture and if found Guilty he could end up being Fined and Banned.

For Pity's sake Grow Up Bellingham, You're supposed to be a Role Model for young Kids.  Not only have You Let Yourself Down England Down, But Those Who Look Up To You. Hang Your Head In Shame.

I don't think Jude Bellingham should have made the gesture, but it's being blown out of proportion

100% agree with this. Shouldn't be blown up as much as it has but I suspect with it being someone like Jude Bellingham, an English player making moves, that's played a part in making it as big as it is.

I remember reading about two players in Italy doing the Nazi salute. I don't know if they got banned, but what's worse?

Wayne Hennessey made a Nazi salute but got cleared because he didn't know what the salute was. There's plenty of political/provocative gestures during games in the past some go punished some get cleared.

    Hopefully Jude learns from this.

    @Chris

Yeah, I remember reading it and thinking he's wormed his way out of that one with an unconvincing lie. I still find it hard to believe how he could have gone his whole life without knowing exactly what that meant.

He's finally done it.

Mark Cavendish wins a record 35th stage at the Tour de France to move 1 clear of the great Eddy Merckx.

The players look really happy to be back for preseason training.,

They have much to be happy about.

Six new quality players joining them. A squad to challenge the best teams in the league.

  • I assume the first day back is all about checks and measuring where the players are, maybe some light gym work. Possibly some jog exercises and nothing that would shock them too much, even though they will be in shape - I can imagine there's a lot of recording of dietary and health stats.

By now, I would assume they have kicked the ball around and tried to emerge the new signings.

The first day back can be very exciting, with the club sharing pictures - I am pleased they all looked very determined and happy. Just wait until the actual training starts and you start doing laps at Meadow Lane. ;)

We've been surprisingly quiet in terms of posting bits and pieces about the players returning for pre-season... Last season we had lots of videos and pics but it's been very quiet so far this time round. Anyway I noticed a pic from the club website and couldn't quite tell who this was...

    Notts Player.jpg

Is this someone new? It’s not Alex Bass, it’s not Nick Tsaroulla and I don’t think it’s Matty Platt. The last person with the No.12 squad number was Tiernan, but I don’t think it’s him either… Am I wrong though? He looks familiar so have I missed someone completely obvious?

  • I have great admiration for Connell Rawlinson. His decision to work with Notts and to mutually agree on his release I believe allowed this to happen. I'm not sure that he would have been Chester bound otherwise. I really hope he can settle down, get himself on the team sheet and help Chester move forward.

It's a great opportunity for him.

This is a positive move for Chester. Rawlo’s addition to the team could make a significant difference. His tall stature could be advantageous. Since his departure, he has quickly managed to get things in order. This swift action leads me to agree more with @Chris’s viewpoint.

I ponder whether footballers who earn millions regard themselves as fortunate. Regrettably, Tommy Lawton was born too early to receive the earnings he merited. Despite this, he was an exceptional player.

In his twilight years, he should have been treated like royalty. If he were still with us today, things might have been vastly different. It’s a thought that makes one reflect on the changing times in football.
