Notts has been successful in retaining key players for a while now. There was a sense of disappointment when Ruben Rodrigues left on a free transfer to join Oxford. However, this was offset by the permanent signings of Jodi Jones and Dan Crowley. For the most part, the club has recruited players to heighten the anticipation ahead of the new campaign. The departures of Kyle Cameron, potentially Macaulay Langstaff, and to some extent, Tiernan Brooks, do leave one wondering who might be next.

The crucial aspect, in my opinion, is to ensure that the excitement generated by new arrivals outweighs the disappointment of the departures.

Regardless of your feelings about players leaving and potential arrivals, bear in mind that once the season kicks off, everything else becomes a distraction. The primary focus should be on appreciating the players while they’re with the club, whether we win, lose or draw. We are a club with a commitment to progress, and we need to get that right before we can hope to retain players for longer periods.

After giving it some thought, I believe Notts will pinpoint the remaining gaps that need to be filled and will proceed to recruit the quality we require.

  • After a few days, most of those who are upset will come to their senses. It’s just the usual ones who thrive on such situations to spread more negativity. The club is in good hands; we just need to keep building.

We all knew that Macca would be in demand this summer and most thought at the end of last season that he had played his last game for us. I think people are feeling disappointed because of the false hope given to us after making him captain a few weeks ago, which hastened Cameron’s departure from the club.

I think there is a little bit of panic in the eyes of Notts fans as we have seen five players leave in the last few days, even though only one would have been classed as a first XI starter this season. Notts need to settle the fans nerves with a couple of signings in the next few days and all will be well again.

I try not to post when I feel my disappointment is driven more by anger. I consider myself a rational thinker, so I don’t naturally balance my expectations. This is Notts County, we have to accept the good and the bad in equal measure and enjoy the time we have with our favourite players.

hello, welcome to pon @Stephen May. i hope to see you join in with us.

Have you ever wondered why you see some players with holes in the backs of their socks? I thought it was the work of moths but here is the reason.

https://metro.co.uk/2024/06/16/why-football-players-holes-socks-euro-2024-21044775/amp/

It's all the rage, Jake was telling me about it - supposedly it reduces injuries, but you are not supposed to do it (he says).

I used to get told by my old duty head of year (managed my school's team) that socks help avoid injuries. I know if I were to ever knock a muscle or something like that, I'd rather it is tight and supported. God knows if it's just an excuse or an actual thing.

it makes me laugh, because they look so awful. does it really cause injuries because they are too tight? why do they have a new pair for every game, surely they get washed with the shirts? its just one of those things one person started doing and others are tagging along.

  • Appointing Matt Palmer makes more sense, he should have been given the role from the start. The decision to change captains resulted in us losing one player and potentially a second who was likely to attract bids. I’m pleased for Palmer; I believe he will perform well in the role. I have no doubt that a quiet person can maintain their composure in moments when others might lose theirs. Just because he’s quiet doesn’t mean he won’t inspire the players.

It's a sensible decision. I see some fans on social media think we should have given it to someone like Jacob Bedeau or Matty Platt. I don't think we should consider them as vice captains yet, allow them to focus on their role in the squad before giving them any sort of leadership role. Any player would prove their worth in one of these roles when it becomes vacant, but I do believe Matt Palmer is a good choice.

As I have said in other discussions, he does communicate with the players during games. He's not silent, but he doesn't lose his head. He's focused and articulate about what he does; this should transfer over to his captaincy role.

I don't think the arm band will make him any less of a reliable midfielder, he's the type of player who might get overlooked, but I feel he will show he's no shadow.

it feels like getting a second vote for brexit, but i am glad matt palmer has been given it. captains are usually also a senior member of the squad who has been around and knows the ropes, unless you are signing a captain and they have requested it as part of the transfer we would always be looking at someone like palmer.

Now Macca has gone to Millwall Notts will need a new penalty taker.

We have had two very successful penalty takers in the last few years. Ruben Rodriguez was our very successful penalty taker in our National League promotion season.

When he left to go to Oxford, Macaulay took over the mantle and although he didn't have many penalties to take last season he never missed one.

Now Notts will choose a new player to take on the responsibility, but who will he be?

My choice would be between Cedwyn Scott or Jodi Jones, but which choice of the Notts players would be your choice?

I would go with the same @Robbie. Depending on who is on the pitch at the time I would assume it will be Scott or Didzy if they are playing, but JJ also showed at Wembley that he isn’t afraid to take one.

Provided we don't give it to David McGoldrick, I will be happy.

I'm not trying to be negative towards McGoldrick, it's just of my view that someone else would be better. He's somewhat predictable, so I don't think he would make a good choice. Cedwyn Scott has taken them before and done well. Jodi Jones could be a good option, then we have Jata who could smash them into the back of the net. Yet, it wouldn't surprise me if Dan Crowley doesn't step up to take them.

  • It's a good interview. I got the impression he wasn't supposed to mention 'niggles' because he goes on to explain more that seemed unnatural. I think this is possibly down to further negativity from those who can't see we have to sell players in order to build further.

When the Reedtz came in they said this would be our business model, over time we have moved away from it and the 'money ball' term looked like it wouldn't be needed. However, it really is for a club of our size. Brentford have done wonders reinvesting in their transfers, it's what we need to be like. Yet, back to Stuart Maynard, naturally he would need to address the Macaulay Langstaff departure, I feel he shares our disappointment because I bet Maynard knew he could rely on Langstaff for goals.

We have other players who will thrive in the striker role, given the minutes and time.

Going in to the new season very soon.... I would really like the 11 players to join together for a team huddle... We haven't done that for several seasons now.... Does anyone know why it was stopped.... Are we really the only team that doesn't do it????..

I would be quite upset unless the transfer fee was truly justified. An upfront payment of £700,000 is far too low. Even if potential add-ons could increase it to around £2,000,000, it would depend on how likely Notts would be to receive that money. In my opinion, £2,000,000 is a low price for a striker who can score goals when given the opportunity.

If he does leave, I hope Cedwyn Scott gets more playing time as a striker. He seems to be the best option, and we also have Alassana Jatta.

Selling our top striker doesn’t lessen the blow, but I do hope that Scott gets more time in the striker’s position. I would also hope that Notts reinvests some of the money from the potential sale of Macca into signing a promising young replacement.

Signing a good young replacement might alleviate some of the frustration. This all hinges on whether the rumour of Macca awaiting a medical at Millwall is true. One thing I’d like to add is that I’m surprised more clubs haven’t been linked to him. This gives me a glimmer of hope that all this might be unfounded. However, if it does happen, I’ve outlined my feelings on the matter.

  • There are some grumpy fans of Notts on social media. I find it hard to believe that true fans, who have seen his dedication, would deny him such a move. My view of him is based on highlights and the occasional full game that I have streamed. It’s clear that he possesses a quality that a higher-level team would eventually seek.

I think a lot of fans are just disappointed and may also have worries that we won't have a 20+ a season goalscorer.

When they both signed, I spoke to @ARLukomski, and he told me that he was more excited about the arrival of Cedwyn Scott. Scott is relentless with pressuring the opposition and often wins the ball back from doing this, he's a good finisher who I feel would do well in the striker role. I am seeing why ARLukomski felt this way, Macaulay Langstaff is a great striker but we have something a bit different, that should work out well.

Give Scott the time to shine.

i am hoping the next signing addresses the keeper situation we have, sam slocombe is injury prone and tiernan brooks is untested but i would like to see that change. i just feel we need a stronger option to force competition between the keepers. i would like another cb, along with a wingback and a central midfielder that is not like what we have.

that would be 4 more signings, 27 players in the squad. giving us option to play the youngsters in the right environment.

rawlinson and randall may end up being released, which would open the door. i am hoping we avoid having a squad around 24 players in size and go further a large one with depth. thoughts?

  • It's great to see that Notts is getting the attention it deserves both as a place and club. Bought my first season ticket and can't wait to see the shiny new pitch get run through ????

The future for Notts is looking bright, now the boys need to show us what they've got and put up a performance worthy of promotion.

Last season had its hiccups, and we always seem to end the season on a low note - let's change the script for once.

Langstaff's committment to this team is unwaivered. Fingers crossed the rumours of him leaving are just hear say ????

I imagine that the recent departures might have upset some fans who were eager to see those players on the field in Notts colours. Regardless of who’s here or not, it will be wonderful to see Meadow Lane packed with our supporters. Let’s remain optimistic about the club having a successful season.

With Macaulay Langstaff’s sale, I don’t foresee the sales increasing much beyond what has been announced. However, a few good signings and reinvesting some of the money might help boost the morale of the fan base.

Playing Alfreton Town tomorrow evening.... The big question is.... Will Macca be in the squad???

Welcome to the community and PON, @Up the Maggies. It's great to have you here.

  • I like and rate Tom Crawford, since leaving us he has done well and the thing about Hartlepool is they rely on young upcoming players as a means to keep the wage demands down. This enables them to nurture talent; once they reach an age where they might warrant a bit more in salary it's not uncommon to see them being released.

Certainly, I think Crawford could make a big impact with them and since Altrincham FC are now a League Two team.

He offers them some much-needed experience, so it will be a good move for him. I'll be watching to see how he does; hopefully he becomes a fan favourite because he's a nice guy.

It’s heartening to see him join another League Two team. Just like Curtis Thompson, Tom Crawford was undervalued, yet he’s a true gem at this level. His talent is undeniable and we’re excited to see what he brings to the table.

Lewis Hamilton wins the British Grand Prix.

Great News for Panthers Ice Hockey Fans.

Panthers off the bottom of the Elite League with a win on their travels after a record run of defeats.

On Saturday 6th July at five pm, England meet Switzerland in the Euro 24 quarter finals.

England have flattered to deceive in the competition so far.

Only a wonder goal by Jude Bellingham saved England in the last minute of injury time at the end of the 90 minutes against Slovakia.

And then Harry Kane headed the winner in extra time to take England through.

England need to improve if they are to beat an impressive Switzerland side.

England are capable of beating Switzerland but they have to play at their best.

Can England do it. Do they need to change formation, tactics & style. Should Southgate make team changes?

  • The only thing that was lacking in the game for England yesterday was it was still a bit slow and the tempo needed upping. But, despite that, it was still a much improved performance. It was a performance we've been crying out for. The thing that is left to ponder is was it the fact that the formation changed allowing more width and fitting Bellingham and Foden as both number 10s or was it that because we was playing a more challenging team? I think it was a combination of both but more the tactical side of things.

    7 hours ago, Robbie said:

Five first class penalties by England won us the match.

England were much better in this match and SAKA has an absolute blinder.

Agreed, all the penalties taken were exceptionally good. They didn't look nervous and they dispatched everyone of them brilliantly.

Again, I agree on the point of Saka had a blinder. When I saw him and Trippier switch over their sides I wasn't pleased with it but he soon changed my mind as the game went on. They just couldn't cope with him on that right hand side.

I didn't think Kane had the best of games once again. Something about him doesn't look right. His pressing game wasn't exactly fast and he didn't look like he wanted to challenge for any of the long balls that come his way. He allowed every single long ball to be won by the defender. Even when balls were delivered into the box, he wasn't getting into the right positions to get on the end of any of them where he is normally clinical.

Bellingham and Mainoo were both good driving with the ball creating attacking opportunities. I feel a bit sorry for Konsa because he had a solid game at the back but I suspect that when Guehi returns from suspension next game, he'll be out and Guehi will be put straight back in. Can't fault putting Guehi back in as he has also been solid at the back for us.

I viewed the match in a bustling pub in Skegness, and the atmosphere was quite jovial. I didn’t pick up on any grumbles about the performance. Naturally, there was some disappointment when we conceded a goal, but that’s par for the course. Immediately after that, I heard remarks such as ‘here we go’, ‘England can bounce back’, and ‘the team won’t surrender’, which indicated a positive sentiment among the fans. I concur that the performance was superior to previous games. More shots on target are indeed necessary, but we must also ensure that our top players are in the starting line-up.

    @Joshua

You can understand the disappointment of going behind, no one likes to see their team go behind especially with the timing of their goal but the main thing was the performance. All fans wanted was the team to turn up to this tournament. Of course they want to get the win but given how they turned up finally and played good football that wasn't boring to watch, I don't think many would have come away too disappointed had we lost compared to how frustrated they'd have been had we lost and played like we did in the previous 4 games.

It's good that England gave us all some joy and as you mentioned about fans backing the team confident that they'd come back into the game. Something we wouldn't have seen in the previous 4 games.

I think the whole performance was benefitted by players playing in their natural positions, which also helped fans get behind the team that bit more. It feels like everything England fans wanted during this tournament was finally given to them for this game and it proved to be successful.

  • I believe this is a matter that requires careful consideration. Being a British citizen shouldn’t automatically grant the right to remain in our country, especially when serious crimes have been committed. His citizenship could be revoked, but it might depend on whether he emerges as a reformed individual. I’m all for offering someone a second chance. He might have been under pressure, leading to a series of unfortunate events. If he manages to lead a better life upon release, then it’s acceptable. Otherwise, we shouldn’t have to tolerate his presence in the UK.

@Joshua Just think we can solve our overcrowded prison system at a stroke! Just deport everyone of them???? :rollonfloorlaughing: Australia was the choice in bygone days!

    However under the law:

"It is important to note that British Citizenship can be removed from a person born in the UK or outside the UK, but only if they hold citizenship of another country – i.e. it can only be revoked where a person would not be left “stateless”.

When mistakes in transfers which can cost hundred and thousands of £ , pruning club staff can seem very harsh

  • i watched something where it said that manchester united needed more stewards, i think this was a few years ago and in a documentary. it highlighted the staff quite well, with people talking about sir alex ferguson and other things before the current owners arrived. what i find worrying is they probably wont stop spending silly fees.

meanwhile regular people relying on their jobs to pay the bills, wont be able to have the luxury of retaining their jobs.

How does letting go of canteen staff and other employees help Manchester United allocate more funds for their first team? The weekly wages of their lowest-paid player could likely cover a month’s salary for all these workers.
