  1. The magic of the FA Cup was in full display at Meadow Lane, as Notts County and Crawley Town battled it out in a match that had everything - goals, drama, and a nail-biting finish. The Magpies emerged victorious, but not without a fight from Crawley Town, who pushed them to their limits in a game that will be remembered for its intensity and high stakes. The match was played in the spirit of the FA Cup, showcasing the unpredictability and excitement that makes this tournament so beloved by fans across the world. Notts County, despite being pushed back on multiple occasions, showed resilience and determination to secure their place in the next round. This victory, while hard-fought, is a reflection of their commitment to the competition and their desire to progress further. Speaking in the post-match interview, defender Aden Baldwin confessed, "It probably wasn't our best performance... but at the end of the day we got the job done." This candid admission reveals a team aware of its strengths and weaknesses, yet determined to improve. The game was marked by high pressure and numerous set pieces, testing the mettle of Notts County's defence. Baldwin, however, was quick to praise his team's resilience. He highlighted the character shown by his teammates, especially Connell Rawlinson, in the face of adversity. "We knew they were going to press High... but we showed really good character," Baldwin said, reflecting on the team's performance. Baldwin also acknowledged the physical toll of the match, joking about the number of balls he had to head away. "I did come here to not head the ball as much but today wasn't the case. We had to put our body on the line, and we did what we needed to do," he said, demonstrating his commitment to the team's success. Crawley Town, known for their strong team and detailed approach, posed a significant challenge. Baldwin acknowledged this, stating, "We respect them massively, they're similar to us in terms of the way they want to build up and how they want to go about things." Despite this, he expressed pride in how Notts County handled the challenge, demonstrating a spirit of sportsmanship and respect for their opponents. Looking ahead, Baldwin emphasised the importance of a good cup run. He expressed optimism about the next round, stating, "We're just going to keep going and do what we do, focus on ourselves, play our football and see where that takes us." This sentiment, coupled with the team's recent victory, suggests a promising future for Notts County in the FA Cup. Baldwin also touched on the team's current injury situation, stating, "These things happen... we've got the characters in the team we got the great staff behind us, so we're just going to get on with it and do what we can." This shows the team's resilience and determination to overcome adversity. Finally, Baldwin spoke about the importance of leadership within the team. "The gaffer and Macca [Macaulay Langstaff] alluded to it in terms of leaders on the pitch... we're all leaders in there. There's some really good characters behind the scenes that people don't really see and that's going to be massive for us for having a successful season this year," he said. This highlights the strong team spirit and unity within Notts County, which will undoubtedly be crucial in their upcoming matches. As Baldwin succinctly put it, "Anyone will do. We don't fear anyone, anyone will do." With this level of determination and focus, Notts County is certainly a team to watch in the upcoming rounds. 2. In a surprise turn of events, Notts County has announced the signing of central midfielder Dan Gosling on a short-term deal, subject to EFL approval. The 33-year-old Gosling, who boasts nearly 200 Premier League appearances with Everton, Bournemouth, and Newcastle, has signed on until 6 January and will wear the squad number 32. The Notts County board expressed their delight at the acquisition, stating, “We’re delighted to add a player of Dan’s pedigree to the squad at such an important time. We believe his obvious quality and experience will enable him to help the team in the short-term, which is vital given the unfortunate recent loss of Matt Palmer." Gosling's career has been marked by hard work, tenacity, and high accomplishment. His leadership skills and fantastic mentality have been praised throughout his career, qualities that the Notts County board believes align perfectly with the culture they're developing at the club. "He is fully aware of the culture we’re developing at the club and is coming here to win games and compete for success," the board added. The rest of Gosling's career has been spent in the Championship, most recently with Watford, for whom he played 17 times last season. His wealth of experience at the top levels of the game is expected to be a significant asset for Notts County as they navigate the season. The board concluded their statement with a warm welcome, saying, “We know our supporters will join us in welcoming Dan to the club and supporting him as he adapts quickly to life at Meadow Lane.” This move marks a significant moment for Notts County, as they bring in a player with a proven track record at the highest levels of English football. Gosling's arrival is expected to bolster the squad's midfield options and provide invaluable experience and leadership on and off the pitch. As Notts County fans eagerly anticipate Gosling's debut, there's a palpable sense of excitement at Meadow Lane. The addition of a player of Gosling's calibre signals the club's intent to compete and succeed, providing a significant morale boost for both the players and the fans. In the coming weeks, all eyes will be on Gosling as he dons the Notts County jersey and steps onto the pitch at Meadow Lane. His performance could very well be a defining factor in the club's season, and fans will be hoping that his experience and skill can help guide the team to success. As the season progresses, Gosling's impact at Notts County will be keenly observed. But for now, the message from the club and its fans is clear: Welcome to Meadow Lane, Dan Gosling. 3. While my preference would be to concentrate on the league, the result was indeed positive and demonstrated the Notts team’s spirit in handling high-level opposition. I don’t believe anyone will linger on the performance; we must make allowances for our current situation, and winning games is paramount. I hope this victory bolsters the players’ confidence to improve our league form, providing them with a form of reward for their efforts.

  4. What an addition to the team! With Gosling's entrance, the promise of continuing this successful and exciting season seems strong. His caliber and influence will be great assets during games, especially in tough situations when we truly need to dig deep. Let's welcome Gosling and hope for the best ahead!

  5. It’s a firm victory, regardless of how we played. Both squads put in maximum effort, and I’m pleased that we’re advancing. That’s the main point. We should accept victories as they come, and once we’ve dealt with the injuries and other challenges, we can concentrate on getting better. The further we progress in the FA Cup, the better!

  6. Aden Baldwin is indeed correct in prioritising victory, regardless of the cost. However, I share your concern about the potential long-term effects of his heading the ball. This is a serious matter that should not be taken lightly. While it’s true that humour can often be found in darker situations, Baldwin’s performance demonstrated why he is considered one of our top defenders. As for Notts, the key is teamwork. Luke Williams should not be disheartened by any setbacks, but rather use them as motivation to strive for better.

  7. The signing of a player of Gosling's experience and caliber sends a clear signal about Notts County's ambition this season. His proven track record at the highest levels of English football and leadership attributes complement perfectly the culture we’re developing at the club. This is certainly an exciting time for us fans and I can't wait to see Gosling in action!

  8. im not bothered that they scored twice, i am not worried that some of the players really had a bad day. all that matters is persevering and pushing for the win. we wont always be able to play entertaining football and dont cup games always tend to be like this? its just good to get the job done at meadow lane.

  9. Notts demonstrated their capability to secure a victory against the formidable Crawley Town, a fact that speaks volumes in itself. The outcome has filled me with joy and satisfaction, as the team achieved the necessary result. This success promises an additional payday, providing us with the opportunity to bolster our ranks come January, should we decide to do so. Despite this, I remain confident in the depth of our current squad.

  13. Job well done by the Magpies; although it wasn't smooth sailing, their grit paid off. Success like this fuels self-belief and sets a strong precedent for future matches. Congratulations to Aden Baldwin for his candid admission and emphasis on doing what needed to be done.

  14. In the current game, the impact of leadership and experience cannot be overstated. The signing of Gosling takes me back to his days at Bournemouth and Everton, where he was seen as a backbone of sorts. His tenacity, determination, and resilience of never giving up regardless of the odds, is something that our brilliant club Notts County could surely benefit from. Welcome to the squad, Dan.

  15. This is what makes a team great, the ability to stand strong under pressure, resilience to turn tides in your favour, and unity under adversities. Notts has shown all three. Despite being pushed back on multiple occasions, they've held their nerve to head into the next round. Aden Baldwin's comment, "Anyone will do. We don't fear anyone, anyone will do," truly embodies the spirit of Notts County's performance.

  16. The addition of Dan Gosling into Notts is a significant milestone that sends a strong statement about the club’s intent to compete. Gosling, a seasoned Premier League veteran, brings in the necessary strength, experience, and acumen that could give a much-needed adrenaline rush to the team. As a fervent supporter, I am ecstatic and can't wait to see the magical difference he might make on and off the pitch. Onwards and upwards, Notts County!

His praise for Connell Rawlinson robustly demonstrates his acknowledgement of Rawlinson's character.

  21. Aden Baldwin’s comments on the performance are accurate, but the result is the key takeaway. The goalkeeping needs to be more assertive. Based on Aidan Stone’s performance, you wouldn’t think we were near the top of the League Two table. This time, it was him who added to Notts’ difficulties. Hopefully, he regains his confidence and starts to improve. A very good result nonetheless!

  30. The signing of Dan Gosling is a clear sign of Notts County's ambition this season. He is a talented player with a proven track record at the highest levels of English football. He is also a leader, and he will be a good fit for the culture we are developing at the club. Gosling is a versatile player who can play in a number of positions. He will add strength and depth to the squad, and we are confident that he will play a key role in helping us to achieve our goals this season. We are excited to have him on board, and we can't wait to see him in action.

  33. What a fantastic acquisition! This appears to be an excellent signing, was the concern necessary? If this works out, we’ll be in a good position. I’m absolutely thrilled with the signing. Despite being 33, he brings a wealth of experience and with his role further up, he should be similar to when we signed John Bostock last season. To some extent, even David McGoldrick. It’s a valuable addition, even if it’s just for a month.

  34. It’s encouraging to see things gradually returning to normal. I wouldn’t stress about the break taken. We all need them occasionally. There’s been consistent progress, and the site does seem to load much quicker. I initially thought the new server made a substantial difference, but the optimisation has elevated things to a whole new level.

  37. In the world of football, we can't overstate the importance of leadership and experience. Take Dan Gosling, our recent signing, for example. His time at Bournemouth and Everton wasn't just a stint, it was a testament to his strength. He was the rock that brought stability and consistency to the teams. His tenacity never faltered, and his determination was unyielding. No matter what challenges were thrown his way, Gosling stood firm, a quality that is both commendable and inspiring. Now, as we open our arms to welcome Gosling into the Notts County family, there's a buzz of anticipation and excitement in the air. Gosling isn't just a player; he's a symbol of perseverance, a trait that resonates with the spirit of our beloved club. His addition to our squad is more than just a new player on the team sheet. It's about bringing in a wealth of experience and a mindset geared towards victory. We're confident that Gosling's influence will ripple through the team, instilling a culture of resilience and determination. So here's to you, Dan. Welcome to the squad. We can't wait to start this journey with you.

  39. The loss of Matt Palmer is a big blow, but I believe we have players waiting in the wings who can cover and allow the club to reflect on the situation come January. Even without the injuries we have, every spell is going to be tough and its for everyone to make things work. I don't focus or pay attention to rumours, even if they do come with the best of intentions. This being shown to be true, doesn't mean much but people should remember that the information will come from third parties.

  43. This is good news, I remember reading about Football Radar being in quite a lot of demand in the UK and in certain European countries. It's clearly working out with turning over a profit. -- @Piethagoram Did you hear the gossip last season about the company being in debt and having to lay off staff? I had people trying to convince me this was true, which a simple lookup would say differently with terms to the debt. It wasn't fans of other clubs, it was ours and some really should have known better. This is why I tend not to pay too much attention until facts can be checked.

  46. Confirmed now then. It's a huge blow as he makes the whole team tick. Hope he has a speedy recovery, he's been so reliable for us and really didn't deserve this It's good to hear that the club is looking at free agents, but realistically anyone who is still without a club in November will be seriously ring rusty and probably not ready to come in straight away. It looks like an improvised midfield against Crawley then, but hopefully Bostock will be back after that to soften the blow a bit. I echo @Chris's thoughts about the squad, we had four players competing for two spots in the team, and two are now ruled out for the season (including one who had a spotless injury record). That's just hugely unlucky and anyone would struggle in that situation. Time for the team to step up and show what they can really do!
    3 points
  47. Surely if he's not in the squad for the weekend it just means he isn't in the team for an FA Cup game that we may or may not be taking seriously. I think the Crewe game will be more telling, but even then it only means that the injury isn't totally trivial. Bostock has been out for 4 or 5 weeks, there is nothing to suggest Palmer would not be similar. The fact is, until someone says what the injury is and how bad it is, we won't know. I think the only one we have been given any idea on is Bajrami, even Scott is out for the rather vague 'foreseeable future'.
    3 points
  48. I’ll be gutted if he’s out for the season. Nothing mentioned in the press conference for the weekend so if he’s not in the squad this weekend that’ll pretty much confirm it, the only mystery would be the severity of the injury. Sounds like we'll have bit of makeshift midfield this weekend then. Hopefully Bostock is back for Crewe because his and Palmer’s ability to retain the ball is something we’ll miss hugely. I don’t think anyone else in the squad can do what they do.

  49. Someone posted this anonymously in the PON Facebook group, it caused quite a stir. I don't know, people do tend to say things they hear via the grapevine and interpret it as the truth. I will try to speak with Matt directly, although I will add I won't be spreading misinformation or anything from what he might say. I am sure David Jackson or whoever handles the BBC's post-match questions will put this forward. We don't have a weak squad, I don't think it is as worrying as people are suggesting. It's natural to overthink things, whilst it will be difficult if Matt Palmer is injured. We have the ability to navigate through it, it will take people to step up and for us to continue to give our fullest support. I understand that worry does tend to take over, as of course we have had years of disappointment but look, usually losing games would see us plummeting down the league table. We win, hit a few snags and so far haven't lost a lot of ground. Why should we worry about unknowns? Let's show some strength and determination.
