It tells the story of Russell King and the Munto takeover of Notts County.

It should be a good watch.

  • It’s an incredible story, Russell King was/is a very clever man, he even managed to dupe heads of government, he lived a lavish lifestyle on other people’s money ruining people’s lives along the way, the trail even went as far as North Korea when he took Sven with him to try and set up a minerals deal. The take over of Notts County was only a small part of what he was involved in.

It’s a shame he used his talents in such a nefarious way. It’s well worth a watch if you get chance.

The issue is that it's becoming almost as fictional as "Catch Me If You Can" and the whole Frank Abagnale, Jr, story.

I watched Panorama ages ago where they tracked down Russell King, but most of the stories on Munto are becoming quite fictional, and people are taking liberties to embellish what actually happened. I can't say Sky's is, but this is my general thought.

  • Harrogate boss night be frustrated but he would be wouldn't he. He didn't seem to be frustrated about his side wasting time or the other fouls in the penalty area that Harrogate got away with.

Notts were worth their point for their 2nd half display, & if Notts has taken their chances, they would have won the match at a canter.

That was a bit of a hard watch. Even in the second half, when we showed more urgency, we barely tested their goalkeeper at all. It's always difficult when the opposition is as compact as Harrogate were, but of all the crosses we put into their box, we were first to very few of them. As for the penalty, I thought Jarvis played for it at first, but on viewing the replay the Harrogate player had his hand on his back (and must have been pushing, otherwise he wouldn't have gone down with him). I missed the big handball shout on PiesPlayer and they didn't show a replay, so i can't comment on that.

Jatta, Hall and Tsuroulla had a quiet day. I thought Bennetts did OK, but nobody was really attacking his crosses. If Grant had taken his early chance first time instead of taking an extra touch, it could have been a very different game.

Harrogate deserved to take something from that game simply because of the spirit they showed with their backs to the wall, but from our point of view that game was winnable. At least we rescued a point.

It was a very frustrating game, but that said, I don't think either team played badly. Harrogate might have been fortunate to capitalise on some horrific defending, and to concede from trying to defend is both ironic for us and a highlight of just how much more aware we should be in key stages of games. You can say it was a fluke deflection, or just that Notts were unlucky, but who was paying attention?

Kelle Roos couldn't do much more, considering it put Harrogate clean through, and all this, "Alex Bass" would have saved it. I am sorry, we need to move on and accept Roos is a totally different keeper.

Notts had chances to win the game, and I won't mention the number of appeals for a penalty.

I think Tyrese Hall had a good effort and should have done better in the first half, but shot straight at James Belshaw. We had 13 shots; only 3 of those were on target, and maybe on a different day we would have scored more, but we have to make the chances count for something. Harrogate wasn't all that great defensively; their time-wasting antics were as blatant as day is long.

Even Belshaw became a wind-up merchant, but that will be overlooked because he supports Notts.

Very well deserved 👏

  • Great news to start the weekend, he's been really good since returning to the side. It's great to actually be in a position now where we are renewing contracts before the end of the season too, means we definitely won't lose him on a free as I'm pretty sure League 1 sides would've been interested in him.

I wonder if we in talks with any other players whose contract is up at the end of the season? 🤔 Tsaroulla and Platt will be out of contract next year...

It's hard to imagine Notts without Scott Robertson in the team, since he joined he really has become a permanent fixture in the squad, and although he has had spells out of the squad through injury and occasionally being rested or dropped.

There is no denying how important it is to get a player like him committed to the club for a longer period of time.

Obviously, it doesn't mean he will see out the contract as a Notts player, but it shows the importance the club sees in him to extend the deal beyond a year or two. The deal will give Robertson peace of mind and allow him to focus on his football.

    Just now, Robbie said:

Notts are the form team in the League so both have an excellent chance of getting these coveted award's. Good luck to both of them.

I just hope it doesn’t put a curse on us as these awards often do, how many times have we seen manager of the month lost the next few games.

Nominations like this, it's always a sign of progress and promise. I am pleased for both Martin Paterson, and Alassana Jatta.

I think Martin Paterson is the type of person that would scare off any potential voodoo or curse, I mean, just his stir alone is enough to know he's not to be messed with.

Did anyone watch this match, it was crazy. Scotland need a win to qualify for the World Cup.

Scotland went 1-0 up early on with a great bicycle kick goal from McTominay, Denmark equalised with a pen in the second half, a dubious decision after a foul which was deemed to be just inside the box, after a lengthy wait for var.

Denmark had a player sent off for a second yellow and Scotland went 2-1 up, 4 minutes later on 82 mins Denmark equalised again. In 90+3 minutes Scotland went ahead 3-2, then on 90+8 mins with Denmark chasing an equaliser and Kasper Schmeichel out of his goal, McLean scored from 35 yards. To put Scotland through to the World Cup finals.

What a match.

This was an absolute joke of a decision by the referee. The Danes will rightfully be fuming

Yes it was, I think it’s time VAR was allowed to intervene on a second yellow card, it was never a foul and that of course had a huge bearing on the game.

Notts have been on the end of some horrendous refereeing decisions & they continue to happen., but unfortunately that's a part of football.

Even though we have to put up with these questionable decisions I still wouldn't like to see VAR being introduced to League 2 matches.

VAR makes mistakes too because at the end of the day, VAR still has to rely on officials making the final decision & we have seen terrible decisions made in spite of VAR .

Scotland deserved their victory & I'm pleased that they will be going to the World Cup.

Wales have a great chance of qualifying too, & they will play at home in their playoff semi final against either Albania, Bosnia, Kosovo or Republic of Ireland.

Shock horror yesterday, when Jake (@super_pie) noticed that the bar opening up across from the Navi is going to be Forest's fan zone. A bit bizarre of a placement for it. It was even confirmed by one of the bouncers of the Navi, that the cleared out area to the side is where it's going to be.

I am not all that bothered, but I do think the location is daft and I fail to see how it will be any better than 'The Nest'.

Surely, there's closer land that could be put to better use?

The Academy pre season continues tomorrow with two matches.

Saturday is once again prediction league day - you know what to do! All the matches kick off at 3pm (or 3:03 pm in the case of the Vauxhall Conference, something about having three promotion spots - outrageous cheek) and you get one joker each. Good luck!

Harrogate came with a game plan & it nearly paid off, but Notts managed to salvage a point and keep their unbeaten run going. Martin Paterson's choice of substitutes made the difference.

So who's your PON Man of the Match for Notts? I have chosen the starting 11 plus 3 substitutes for you to make your choice.

Those players are.

Roos, Macari, Ness, Bedeau, Tsaroulla, Robertson, Iorpenda, Bennetts, Grant, Hall, Jatta, Palmer, Jarvis, Dennis.

  • I agree @Robbie subs can get a man of of the match. We have seen it with England recently. The likes of Jarvis coming on when defenders are tired can make a massive difference. I think in the modern game it's not about the starting eleven any more. The strategy to win a game involves the whole eighteen and the coach shows his skill in knowing when to make the changes. Martin Paterson is doing just that for me.

Hard one to call, the defence wasn’t really that tested, they were so high up the pitch second half you would’ve mistaken them for midfielders. And then attack wise we struggled to break them down even though we were camped in their final third for the last 30 minutes of the match.

The subs did make a difference, Palmer did what he does, he even had a shot that went just over (he's going to score this season, I can feel it). Jarvis won us the penalty he looked a tad lacking in confidence in times and he's not played regularly either but it was the right match and time for him for come on.

Am I missing something, why do we need a fan shirt? I don’t understand but apparently they’ve sold over 700 so far so fair play it all helps the club.

What are your thoughts?

On Magpie Circle podcast, Paul Mace offered the explanation that it was to be the 3rd kit this season but the EFL enforced an obscure ruling that shirts cannot have 2 different club emblems on them. I must admit this seems a tad harsh... and maybe Puma should have been aware of such rules? Hence the shirt being marketed as a Fans shirt.

So a 3rd kit may still be coming?

That sounds logical @Piethagoram if that is the case then I think we can forgive them, it’s certainly sounds like they might have been stuck with a load of shirts that couldn’t be used then some bright spark had the idea of selling them asa “fans shirt”, fair enough.

I’ve never heard of a fans shirt before maybe if lots of fans buy them they’ll do one every season.

Agreed @Piethagoram, that's probably what happened. The shirt certainly looks like it was intended to be worn during matches, with the current badge and sponsor on it.

It looks like this will join the 2009-10 Vandanel shirt (the one Munto ditched for Nike) in the ranks of "Notts shirts that never were". Not one I find appealing, but maybe a curiosity in years to come.

I think this fan shirt is fund-raising for the club one step too far. I am happy to support the the club and buy merchandise to raise funds, but there is a limit to what you can buy and at £50 a shirt and more for families you begin to feel a little bit exploited, especially for something that is not really needed.

Morning all, there was heavy rain in the night but it’s dry and bright at the moment.

We are having a walk up to the doctors surgery this morning, Mrs. T is still having a few ongoing problems and she’s finished her antibiotics, she then wants to go and see her girlie friends for coffee so I’m on my own till lunch time but I’ve got plenty to do.

Later I’ll be watching Notts on the box, safe travels to our supporters.

I hope everyone is well, let us know what’s happening in your life.

Martin Paterson has chosen a few different midfielders for the first eleven this season, however it appears that he has settled for Palmer & Roberson as his first team picks in the centre of midfield, & has decided on an alternative of Iorpenda, Hall, or Grant in the attacking midfield positions.

That leaves Norburn & Iorpenda as an alternative in the centre of midfield & Dennis, Iorpenda, Hall, Grant or even Jones & Jarvis who could all fill the AM positions.

So far this season I think that barring any injuries, Palmer & Robertson have made the central midfield positions their own & they are my preferred picks.

I think it is a little more difficult in the AM area. At the start of the season Jones was picked to play as an attacking midfielder but it was obvious that his best place was on the wings.

Iorpenda started in CM but lately MP has been playing him further forward with Grant or Hall, then we have Dennis who has been unable to get so many starts since Jatta's return. & we have Jarvis who can play as an AM or Winger waiting in the wings...

My preferred duo in the AM position at this time would be Grant & Iorpenda with Hall & Dennis very close. I think the AM positions are still up for grabs & we may even see some additional player recruited for that position in the Jan window.

It is certainly going to be very fascinating in the weeks ahead to see how Martin Paterson works it all out. What are your Thoughts?

  • Scott Robertson is quickly becoming as important to the squad as Matt Palmer is; yesterday, for example, we desperately missed Palmer in the first half. Robertson is a brilliant player; he works so hard, and in time he should be exactly what Palmer is to us. Right now, they are the midfield pairing that we need to win games. These two work so well together; it seems unlikely that they wouldn't be starting together at the beginning of the season, especially with the arrival of Ollie Norburn.

Norburn should be pushing his experience as a contender to be starting, and I think he's okay, but for me, he's more of a rotational player. Tom Iorpenda, for me, is the more exciting option, who could come in for either Palmer or Robertson.

Conor Grant moves brilliantly; he's intelligent on the field and wins the ball back in situations where it could create a lively encounter. He does struggle at times to pick his pass, and yes, his finishing could do with work, but he's one of those unappreciated players that can move between the channels and into attacking positions in front of the opposition's D, and it just takes someone else to make the run for him to assist.

The main thing is we have options and players who can do different things. I overheard a fan say, "Grant is exactly the same as Sam Austin," and to some degree I can see the similarities.

@Chris said: Conor Grant moves brilliantly; he's intelligent on the field and wins the ball back in situations where it could create a lively encounter. I agree. He's so unappreciated & always seems to get the criticism from some Notts fans. The thing is, the Head Coach rates him or he wouldn't pick him. Grant is one of those unsung players who's work never seems to get noticed, but he is a vital member of the squad in my opinion.

I'm one of the detractors in the everyone vs Grant case. I think with this formation and its iterations over the last couple of years, I've been spoiled in Ruben and more-so Crowley. Ruben was brave and clinical - almost a second striker. Crowley was very technically gifted with decision making and vision alongside being brave. That said I have just re-watched quite a lot of Crowley and Ruben's goals/assists and see closer similarities in Kouhyar than I see in Grant. With the way we play, we put so much stock in this position and when the AM's fail, we fail given that Jatta is not a big brutish bastard and he plays better when stuff is played in front of him.

I want to start off by acknowledging that PON needs to return to a level of consistency with regard to the news, match reports, and so forth. I have numerous finished content pieces which I have put off because I wanted the site to be in full motion, but I haven't managed to keep to the standard I wish to set.

Moving forward, if I can't do something, I will ask one of the team members, and I am sure in time things will improve to a standard that visitors and members have enjoyed in the past.

I am also pleased to say that I have built and set up a system status page, which can be found here: https://status.prideofnottingham.co.uk/

Transparency and being up front is something I strongly believe in, and this system page will allow those who wish to see what is operational across the site. Issues will be posted as events, and updates will be given in a timely manner. If PON should happen to go down, you will be able to find out why by visiting this page.

You may subscribe to email alerts by entering your email address in the "Notify Me" box. Please remember to choose which updates you would like to stay in the loop about.

In the event one of these areas encounters a problem, you will be emailed and kept up to date with the progress, but only if you subscribe to this service. Bug reports will still be taken by the site and addressed within the forum.

Over the past week, I have spent time improving the mobile experience. While most of this will be noticeable only to team members, it does bring improvements to the header and logo for regular members.

There are subtle changes and a few improvements from a recent upgrade, which I plan to make the most of with these new features.

Awards will be given out on a merit-based routine, which will be more frequent. In areas and during the site's downtime, I will finish adding the rest of the ones I created.

There are a few more things in the pipeline, but they aren't quite ready to be mentioned.

My main focus is to get more organised over this weekend and pick up the content. It's a privilege to represent Notts fans and provide content to be enjoyed. I very much appreciate everyone's help, and a more oganised me will be a better PON experience for everyone.

Thank you for reading this,
Chris

  • i dont think we really need him, it would be like going backwards despite the quality he could bring. being amongst the league one divisions most shots, says something that he still has it but maybe he is just struggling to convert challenges. i would rather persist with tyrese hall at this stage, because much like dan crowley we have learned to live without david mcgoldrick now.

Yeah, the he calls for his return have quietened down now he hasn’t scored a goal or provided an assist in the League since August…

If we had an unlimited budget I’d say yes, but I just can’t see how we can justify paying his wages (he’s probably on even more than he was at Notts now) knowing he can’t play every 90 minutes anymore. There’s also an argument that due to how we press more and play more direct he might also be less effective now.

At this point, he would be a luxury at the expense of what is currently working within the squad.

His arrival would come at the cost of someone else's place, and I would rather Notts focus on improving the younger players we have. Someone of David McGoldrick's age and experience really should be fighting for his place and position in Barnsley's team.

On Saturday Notts take on Harrogate at Meadow Lane, how many links can we find between the two clubs, players, managers, coaches etc.

My starter for 10 is Paul Bolland who played for Notts from 1999 - 2005 making 106 appearances scoring 6 goals he went on loan to Harrogate in 2012-2013.

How many more can we find?

Sunday Service: eight great spots in Notts for a roast

As we move through autumn, the season of traditional British roast dinners is upon us. Here we’ve picked out eight of our favourite city centre spots to hide away for a feast with your friends and fam

Notts are the form team of League 2. 7 wins & 1 draw from their last 10 matches. 4 wins in their last 5 is very impressive.

The team is starting to play for each other. They are the third joint highest scorers in the league with 27 goals with the 2nd highest goal difference, 18 of those goals in the last 10 games.

Things are beginning to click for Martin Paterson. We saw too sides of Notts against Cheltenham, a side that can play attractive incisive football like we saw in the first half, & a side that can work hard to keep their lead when they have to defend.

We also witnessed a Notts team without three of their best players against Cheltenham, however the players that came in for them slotted into their roles so well & the team still gave a very strong performance despite those missing players.

So it appears to me that the Notts squad is now beginning to gel together so well as a team. Football is a team game & if individuals begin to know how their fellow team members play, their positioning & their runs off the ball, team performance can invariably improve.

So I think a lot of the improvement is down to this. Thoughts?

  • Our form is even more impressive when you consider how poorly we started the season, with one point from our first three games and MP not having a clue what his best team was. The quality of football we play is still up and down at times, but the new additions look integrated in the team now and the results speak for themselves.

It's partly about availability. At the start of the season Jatta was suspended, Robertson, Tsaroulla and Ness recovering from injury (I think), and Macari and Hall not considered match ready. So basically MP has been doing a brilliant job since he's had key players available.

@Robbie you make a good point about the missing players against Cheltenham, when I saw the team I feared we might suffer but the first half performance in particular was very good so it shows that we can rely on the players who come in to give a good account of themselves when we have injuries and suspensions, at the moment the future looks bright, long May it continue.

I was watching the Football League highlights and noticed that our old favourite Alan Sheehan is now interim manager of Swansea City, I wish him well.

Game 15: The Robins (A)
Date: 10/11/25
Kick off: 20:00.
Team: Cheltenham Town
Location: Whaddon Road
Competition League Two
