Good performance by both sides. Would've taken a point before the game had started so can't complain really ... but im going too. Ameobi at fault for first goal, he could have kicked it out for a throw or controlled it better. Second goal was down to Kevin Nolan, a replacement defender was not brought on quick enough and as a result of tired legs when they had fresh subs we conceded. 2-2 is a respectable result from both teams but we really should have seen out this game. Poor tactics by Nolan cost us this game IMO.

  2. As it's 29 years since Notts County claimed their biggest ever win over Mansfield Town (5-0 at Meadow Lane in the League Cup), I thought I'd open up a thread as to the best Nottinghamshire derby you remember.

Were you there on 30 August 1988 for the big win, or if not, what is the best one that you recall seeing/hearing/following?

  3. Based on a mean of 5

Collin 5.5  Couldn't do much with the goals, but was outshone by Accrington's keeper,Chapman,  who produced 3 magnificent saves. Having said that Collin, at least blocked what looked like an Accrington certain winner in injury time. The first half saw Collin well protected and had little to do. One poor punched clearance in the second.

Tootle 5.5 Still puzzled over the sending off. It did seem a case of the referee evening up numbers. Believe sending off was for 2 yellow cards

Duffy 5.5 Looking more of an offensive threat from Dan Jones's dead ball delivery ( especially Chapman bringing off a good save)...but marked down a mark or two for a clear cut foul that should have yielded a penalty for Accrington in the second half

Brisley 5 An OK centre half at this level, but look at perhaps what we could have got when compared to Richards Everton  Centre Half performance from Accrington

Jones 6 Giving power on the left when going forward.. Lots of positives but was badly caught out when trying to protect the ball close to his by line.

Hewitt 6 Beginning to see why Nolan is using him. All energy and covering ground but on the flip side, doesnt possess the hope of a killer pass...but maybe that's a dishonour as front 2 have distinct lack of pace.

Yates 5 Just have a feeling he needs to step up more and put his foot down to influence the game. Nolan's long ball tactics doesnt help

Grant 8 Class Class class for that goal... Really need to work harder as a team to bring him into goal scoring positions. Denied another goal with a fine save from Chapman

Hawkridge 7 Absolute dynamo in terms of effort and a great break on the left to deliver the pass for the second

Stead 4.5 Yes, won the penalty and scored from it...just... Was well marshalled by Accrington's defence, who were able to pick off his lack of control.

Shola 5 Full marks to Richards Everton for having Shola in his pocket. Minus marks for lack of concentration that allowed Accrington's player Hughes to score

A nondescript first half gave way to an exiting second. Questions remain of Nolan's thinking as to why Forte didn't start the game... Shola and Stead are too leaden footed to work effectively as a pair. Hewitt's injury in injury time should have been subbed immediately... Maybe easy to say in hindsight.. Overall, agreed Accrington deserved the draw, they played some good football whereas we have good players that dont really benefit from the longer ball game.

  4. So John Coleman, the Accrington Stanley manager, has had a right old moan about Notts County, describing the changing rooms as "a corridor", the penalty awarded to the Magpies as "soft", not awarding the visitors "two stonewall penalties" of their own... he's not a happy man!

  5. Simple enough - who have been your top 3 players for Notts County this month and why?

  6. It's been completely revamped and now it definitely has a personality of its own, compared to the "other stand" it used to be in the past.

Have a look for yourself - what do you think?

  7. Who is the best player you have seen play on the pitch at Meadow Lane? Opposition counts too. For me being a young'ish fan it has to be Patrick Vieira against Manchester City in our cup tie. Who is yours?

  8. What is some people's problem with Alan Hardy? Some of the abuse he's getting abit oit of hand now, I've got to question where some Notts fans respect is.. He saved us last season, brought some stability to Notts.

If I owned Notts and got this abuse I'd sell the club to the first buyer, its no wonder the trews got fed up.

Now don't get me wrong I'm not Alan Hardy's biggest fan, his decision making has had 1 or 2 flaws, discussing transfers on twitter not a good idea.. The way he speaks down to fans who don't agree with him is abit out of order, promises he can't fulfill was always going to end in fans getting angry..

Where do you stand on Mr Hardy?

  13. Game 4 - Stanley (H)

    Team: Accrington Stanley

    Date: 25/08/17

What line-up should Kevin Nolan opt for? What will be the key areas for the Magpies to get a victory? What do you think the final score will be?

We should have finished the game when we had those 3-4 corners in a row, and bombarded Stanley's area with crosses (which I don't understand why we heavily focus on this). I mean, Yates, Ameobi and someone else had key moments where they could have made it 3-0 but we just knocked it out wide.

I don't really understand why we do this when there's space in front or a chance to get a shot on goal.

      DangerousSausage

It was a frustrating evening. I felt we played some better football than against Wycombe and created a lot of chances. Even if we couldn't get a third goal, two should be enough. Even at 2-1 we should be able to close out the game, but for that we need to be able to keep a cool head and retain possession.

Collin made a spectacular save at the death but from that position their player should really be scoring. A decent finish from there and there's nothing the keeper can do about it. We also struck it lucky with their penalty call in the second half. That said the game should have been over by then.

I'm frustrated but looking at the bigger picture 7 points from 4 games isn't a bad start, especially when you consider the opening day at Coventry. Hawkridge, Jones and Grant give us plenty of creativity, Hewitt has potential in midfield and I'm expecting to see more from Alessandro and Forte too. If our defence can just sort itself out somehow there could be more than just mid-table mediocrity in it this season.

i thought we played well but was unlucky with some of the chances that notts created. their keeper was good at saving, tho we could have scored more passed him if we had have been more direct. i am happy with the draw, its no real loss. we gained a point and something to learn.

  14. Hi all,

I'm doing a study on certain aspects of the match day experience at EFL & PL clubs, and would much appreciate it if any of you could take 3-4 minutes to complete the following survey:

  15. I found this fascinating, I already knew a fair bit but this documentary goes quite in-depth. Many fans seem to forget that Accrington Stanley was one of the first clubs to play football, yet this highlights their struggles and ambition to grow further.

    Well worth the watch.

  18. It looks like Kevin Nolan has his preferred players which every manager does, but am I the only one who believe that half of the squad cannot perform due to fitness for a full 90 minutes? I honestly feel there should be more squad rotation.

Who was your man of the match for Notts County against Accrington Stanley?

  20. I have a desperate request on here. My cousin's husband-to-be is organising a stag do in Dortmund, flights are already booked. Five of them want to see Borussia Dortmund v Mönchengladbach on 23 September. Trouble is, they haven't got tickets and don't know how to get them! I've offered to help but tickets aren't a problem for the teams I support...

I looked on their website and it appears that tickets went on sale to members today, but won't be going on general sale. Which would leave them at the mercy of ebay, viagogo or touts. The club's own secondary ticket market might be the answer, but they'd rather not leave it that long.

Does anyone here have any contacts or information on getting hold of tickets? @ivansneck maybe?

  21. Today is that old notorious chestnut, GCSE results day, so I hope all our fans who sat them this year have done well! Likewise for A-level results earlier this month.

Anybody want to talk about their results, or those of a younger relative who got them this month, let's hear how you did!

Also, those whose results came some years ago, share your stories about what you remember from the day and how you got on post-results!

  22. This is the type of 'Notts County' we want to see right? A hard-working side which fights for the pride and plays with passion?? What a fantastic difference Kevin Nolan has our club under. Let's hope it continues for a long time to come!

  23. What's your preferred browser?

Today I've experienced some pretty major issues with Google Chrome, on my laptop I prefer to use Firefox but my desktop - it has Chrome running and I thought I would give it a fair chance to become my default browser. This has been discussed in the past, however I feel it's relevant to now and I'm curious if anyone has changed or switched?

Desktop: Chrome (hopefully Facebook continues to work on it)
Mobile: Chrome (I used to have Opera but it's rapidly declined)

Laptop: Firefox - I have everything setup, speed is fine and I can't really be bothered with customising it. I also miss the way you can configured it, Chrome is very sleek but simple. What about you? What browsers do you use?

  24. Alan Hardy has put a fair bit of investment into Notts despite reportedly running at a considerable loss.

The club has state of the art changing rooms [which looks awesome I must say].

The Meadow Lane pitch being relaid and worked on at a cost of 100k.

    DBjsiwgVoAA7Epc.jpg

Further work behind the scenes from the signage around Meadow Lane, to the actual stands.

Do you think Alan Hardy will continue to invest if the results don't continue on the pitch? This would be a welcoming sign since the last owner clearly lost interest in the club and decided to pull out on the improvements. I also feel that this type of investment creates a buzz around the club, which should help to bring back fans and encourage the players that the club is moving forward. Some are massive in comparison to smaller changes, but isn't it all part of the parcel off football? Thoughts?

  25. Already we know that several changes in football are being discussed by the game's lawmakers in this country, such as a free kick taker being able to take more than one touch from any given set piece, and stopping the clock rugby-style when the ball goes out of play, then ending the game at 90 minutes.

But here's a gem I've found on Twitter (courtesy of @dwafc_). Almost as radical as "added time multi-ball" (if anyone remembers that old American p**s-water advert from 10-odd years ago).

Feel free to pass judgement on this, as well as mention your own ideas (as farfetched as you like!)...
