  1. On this day 12 years ago, Stefan Oakes hit an absolute screamer from 40 yards for Notts in a 3-1 win over Yeovil, which was rounded off by goals from Glynn Hurst and Mark Stallard.

Have a look for yourselves - foot like a traction engine!

  2. The Football Lab has named Rob Milsom as one of its League Two midfielders of the season.

    From the article http://www.thefootballab.co.uk/2017/midfielder-of-the-season-notts-countys-rob-milsom/

"Michael O’Connor has been transformed since the appointment of Kevin Nolan, a line that could be attributed to many other players, yet Milsom has been consistent throughout the season. Every game he has worked tirelessly for the cause, whereas the commitment of his teammates under John Sheridan’s reign had been questioned."

There has definitely been a vast improvement from Richard, since Kevin Nolan came in. COYP

  4. Sky Bet, sponsors of the EFL, have donated 72 signed shirts, one for each club in the Championship, League One and League Two, to the Great Britain Deaf football team to help raise the funding they need to get to the Deaflympics in Turkey in July.

The team are currently £13,500 short of their target, which needs to be raised by April 16 if they are to attend the finals - they receive no funding from the government or UK Sport.

The money will be used to support the team's preparations for the Deaflympics 2017, with training weekends and matches in the build-up to the competition, plus the cost involved in representing the male and female teams at the tournament.

Another really hard fought and deserved victory today, which is fast beoming our trademark under Nolan. A thoroughly professional and disciplined performance. We were comfortable really, played the better football, had the better chances, defended brilliantly and hardly gave them a sniff at the other. Thought they were poor in truth, just hoofed it to Akinfenwa who didn't get the space to do anything by our defence.

The job Nolan has done in turning things around so dramatically to the point that we're already safe is nothing short of remarkable. We look fitter, sharper, smarter, much more organised, and every player looks like they'd run through brick walls for eachother. Absolutely fantastic work ethic. If Nolan is given the time to build his own team we really could see something special here

Very solid win but I'm hearing mixed reports.

Did Notts play solid? Or was Wycombe poor? From the majority of opinions I've heard and read we deserved the victory buy it seems we may have been under pressure for a fair bit of the game.

Just trying to see if anyone in attendance can shed more light.

I'm very happy with the win, it's a great achievement all round and further signs if a promising season next term (despite Nolan trying to play things down). Great victory!

I listened to it, and i can't remember us being under any sustained pressure, yes they had a few chances. But overall a quiet game for Collins.

  11. Based on a mean of 5

Collin 5 Invariably away from home, the away supporters are behind one goal. It is so apparent from this position, this guy is so silent, never once shouted instructions to his defenders. Distribution is a major failing and yet again, I get so frustrated as opportunities are lost for his failure to release quickly. A good save from Myles but was well protected by Duffy and Hollis

Tootle 5.5  did his job protecting his side of the pitch but little in an offensive sense

Dicko 3.5 All the assurance of a competent left back, but scrap that Bola was injured. Instead, we had what Stallard tweeted, an old school left back. Old school, meaning 3R's  Rank, rough, reckless. Nearly cost us a goal for woeful play when last man

Duffy 6.5 an absolutely stonking block in the 2nd half. A different player under Nolan

Hollis 6.5 First time in a long time, Akinfenwa hasn't been allowed to bully us.

O'Connor 5.5 Helped close down the midfield but his dead ball delivery was shocking. Glaring miss 2nd half, could have seen up the game

Milsom 6.5 Ability to run and nick a ball helped the team.

Hewitt 4.5 despite his efforts, up close Second half, his token attempts to block were just tokens. Wasted a great opportunity from a Shola directed header. Just no composure when it was needed

Grant 4 Hope the Forest scouts were looking today. Has the talent but drifts out of the game for long periods. However the quality is still there.

Stead 6 set up Shola well for the only goal. He was well shackled but wasted a good chance which fell on his left, when you expected the target to be hit.

Ameobi 7 Not the most accomplished of finishes but proved a great target man, with some good lay offs. Though one never feels he has a potential goal scoring threat.

    Subs

Smith...Why, why, why? We need a player with legs to carry and close the game out.

Who was your man of the match for Notts County at Wycombe Wanderers?

  13. Alright,

Joined in December as I thought it would be nice to hear from other County fans rather than try talk about it with mates who all conveniently have granddads from Manchester or Chelsea! I have posted a couple of times in the match chats, but thought I should may as well put a post here.

Originally from MK, but been a NCFC fan always. Best match I've been to was the 4-3 win at Wycombe in 2012 when Alan Judge hit a screamer in injury time (and should have got us playoffs, if Sheffield United hadn't been bottle jobs against Stevenage). Also if anyone happens to know where I could find a 1978 home shirt, let us know as I've been looking for about three years now.

Hopefully I've joined this page at the right time; fairly new ownership, management and some form that has been lost for a while. Look forward to a strong finish to the campaign and hopefully better things next season.

    Cheers,

    Elliot

  14. Apparently we've sent scouts out to watch this Tamworth striker, been banging the goals in for them recently, it'll be interesting to see if anything comes of it.

Don't know much about him, 26, scored 20 odd goals apparently bit can't find anything that says what his record is.

  15. Why is politics almost like the representation of a school's play ground?

Once upon a time this was serious business, yet these days it's all very petty. Personally I think if they cut the crap, focus may be allowed to help with the real concerns our nation faces. Even overseas it's a circus, I really don't care what Donald Trump says or does - his habits on Twitter aren't even newsworthy. Yet this is considered today's politics? A world leader keen to spout nonsense via Twitter and a female Prime Minister who cares more about how she is seen on cameras.

I'm probably the last person who speaks about politics but I miss the days of boring John Major.

  16. Mark Fotheringham spent the 2013-14 season at Notts County and played alongside two of the brightest Magpies loanees in recent history, Callum McGregor and Jack Grealish.

He has recently done an interview published by the Birmingham Mail where he talked about both prospects, and he claimed that his countryman is a better prospect than the Villa winger.

“Jack Grealish was actually on loan at Meadow Lane at the same time and Callum outshone him and he’s been touted for England and rated at millions of pounds," he said.

“And if that’s the sort of price tag on Jack’s head then I would hate to hazard a guess what Callum would be worth. It would be at least the same anyway.

“I used to sit in the midfield with Jack and Callum at either side of me. They were two very big talents but for me Callum was always going to have the bigger future and I still believe that."

Here is the full interview: http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/celtic-star-bigger-future-aston-12743251

What are your thoughts on what he's had to say?

  17. As today is the 151-year anniversary of the first Nottingham derby, I just thought I'd ask what your favourite match between Notts County and Nottingham Forest has been over the years? This can be league, cup or friendlies.

Now I'm a bit limited as there haven't been many encounters since I got into Notts (2006), but the Carling Cup game in August 2011 is my nomination. What a tense, pulsating game that was. As gutted as I was to lose (especially when Lee Hughes skied his penalty when he could have sealed it), I had to applaud at the end just for the entertainment they served up.

And to think they were thinking of postponing the game, as the "riots" were going on across the country. Tense times, them were.

  18. Jorge Grant has definitely proven himself to be a cut above, with his performances and goals, but the question is - is he the best loanee you've seen at Notts County in recent years?

Who would you say is the best - Grant, Jack Grealish, Callum McGregor or someone else?

    Let's hear your thoughts.

The turnaround in our fortunes this season have been unreal, it just goes to show you what having positive hard working people involved in the club can do.

Us as fans deserve a pat on the back, we're turning up in our numbers supporting and pushing the team on..

Nice to see the players are going out together, looks like Nolan and Hardy have helped alot of these players out.

There's not really a point to this article it's more of an appreciation to the changing of times and better atmosphere at Notts.

It feels like we are a different club, not just from the board but to how we all approach games. I am hopeful that we can get a few more wins, just to push us up the table a bit but I firmly believe Kevin Nolan will be able to attract the right players we need for next season.

Let's just hope the wheelbarrow doesn't break in the meantime because this is great to see.
