I’d say it’s more about his wages than his age. He might be seen as too expensive for us. It’s one of those things where we see other teams doing well after taking a chance on a certain player. They go for it, and sometimes it pays off.

Meanwhile, we try to be clever with who we offer bigger wages to. Players like David McGoldrick are seen as worth it, while others aren’t. Then when we are trying to save money, we won't renew their deal with an amount that suites both parties. With Didzy, it was almost like here you go, that's our offer, take it or leave it.

Ollie Palmer or Paul Mullin. I don't care where players come from. They are proven goalscorers who I would welcome if Notts could afford them. But unfortunately at this moment, Notts clearly can't or won't.

We had a ready made proven goalscorer in David McGoldrick at the club, who hinted & hinted that he wanted to stay but Notts just let him go. For me, letting him go defied all logic after spending a considerable amount of money on a Hybrid, Pitch.

I doubt he'd have cost more than McGoldrick. He wasn't exactly in keeping with the model either, but we signed him when we had the chance.

Wild speculation mode on: how does anyone know we weren't in for Palmer? Perhaps Jatta had a move lined up that was dependent on us signing Palmer? It's a bit of a coincidence that Jatta is suddenly available for selection again the moment Palmer signs elsewhere, but I'm probably reading too much into it.

People used to want to work for the BBC if they went into media, and it has been a good place for people to learn their trade, but since they have gone all in on the TV licences, pandering to political parties, and focusing on being woke, nobody does now. You’ve got to switch the subtitles on during the Notts interviews. Alassana Jatta becomes Alister Gatta. Brilliant.

are we playing to our strengths yet? martin paterson spoke about how he wanted the players to do this, and not only do we look out of shape at times. we still dont seem to have key players fit enough to play for 90 minutes. 5 games in we are seeing improvements, but most seem slow and counter productive with how we fail to defend. we struggle with headers when the defence dont have time to prepare and we dont defend as a team like we have previously done. the pressing to win the ball back or to get the secord or third ball back is missing.

In earlier games, I felt our centre backs were pushing forward too much, while the midfield and attack seemed to sit back too often. It left us a bit out of balance. We’ve looked better against Shrewsbury and Bromley, with signs of improvement. But defending only works well when the whole team is organised and ready for it.

Having seen every game so far, bar the home win against Shrewsbury Town and the Wigan Athletic cup game.

I think it's more communication that is hindering us, along with a lack of movement. When we are doing well, it's a lot more natural, but out of possession, it seems almost forced to make any effort. We have gone from being a team that can quickly intercept the ball and push on. To a team that loses it quite easily, it is a lot more indecisive as to whether we are going to try to win the ball back quickly, and those 2nd and 3rd balls are being chased like we would have under Luke Williams.

A fair case to the point of it being shape-related is a fair one, as we are very relaxed at times when it comes to keeping it.

When Kelle Roos has the ball either in his hands or at his feet, who often wants the ball? When we have conceded or almost conceded, who is reacting in the way that makes you think they are fired up and don't want to lose or draw?

There has always been an element to Notts being slow; however, previously in games where we have played well, we quite rightly deserve the 3 points. We have come back from setbacks and pushed. That winning mentality, along with the desire to make space and to win the ball back quickly, is currently missing.

@piedestrian Things haven't been the same since Jason Turner. Of course, we will never know, but maybe, things could have been entirely different player wise at Notts if he was still around. Maybe some of the players that left would still be here & the communication between club & fans would have been better too.

Sound the alarm, Jatta was involved and running in the training session video from today! And yes I have already searched “can you sprint with a back spasm?” for those wondering, no not if it’s serious and in the video he looked more than fine to me.

These are my thoughts on what was said.

It would be Great if Notts managed to have a Half Decent Cup Run @Robbie . The Trouble is the Magpies never seem to get the Rub of the Green in Cup Competitions, regarding Top Opposition, I think it was when Notts were drawn away at Liverpool and at Home to Manchester City in the League and FA Cup Rounds were the last Premier League Teams the Magpies played.

@Wheelbarrow repair man I understand meeting a top six PL club in the 3rd Round, there will be an element of luck involved, & Notts have to get through two rounds before they can meet a PL club.

I think the quicker these players can gel together & the quicker Paterson can identify his best starting eleven is dependant on more game time which the cup competitions can give him as well as the league games.

The Case for Prioritising a Cup Run?

How about glory and the standing and respect of the club.

We enter only 3 competitions so why can't we take all of them seriously and try to go as far, or as high, in each of them as we can?

As you can tell, I'm a traditionalist here. I believe too many lower league clubs became infected and influenced by behaviours of the elite teams - resting players, picking your games and priorities, poo-pooing the domestic cups to chase the dollar. Teams down the league copied these behaviours without ever checking if their fans were on board with it.

Even now success in the cups is cloaked only in the language of money. To hell with that, I want to get to cup QFs for the respect and the glory. Those victories over Newcastle and Everton and the QF at Leeds were what made me a ardent Notts fan. I remember those great games under the lights not the money that was earned from them. I love the fact we made the FA Quarter-finals in 84 and 91, giving our best against the eventual winners in both cases, Everton and Tottenham. Again, as a fan, I don't give two hoots about the money - let Palmer take care of that, it was about the thrill of the run, the respect for the club and all the memories created.

I still think all of that is the reason to have cup runs.

I was one of the fans at the game trying to get our lot to sing, it was very depressing, but the more voices grew in number, the better the atmosphere became, and I firmly believe that the encouragement from our away end helped the lads perform.

A lot of people expressed that they were only going to see Anfield, and many thought we stood no chance.

It's fair to say I believe in cup magic, and the whole experience was really something special. Some Liverpool fans gave Jake a scarf; they took a photo with us as we both had our "Every Liddle Helps" t-shirts on, well Jake had his on underneath his Notts shirt.

I wasn't really happy with the amount of negative comments people told me about Liverpool, the typical "don't leave anything in sight or it'll be stolen." I felt that sort of stuff happens everywhere, but it did make me nervous as to what to expect. Most Liverpool fans that I came across not only made a fuss of Jake but were very inviting and friendly.

The game itself saw us come back and made it a memorable night.

I looked up the team sheet from that match: B Bialkowski, M Dumbuya, M Smith, G Liddle (c), E Stevens, J Campbell-Ryce, J Labadie, M Fotheringham, D Bell, C McGregor, Y Arquin Substitutes: F Speiss, G Tempest, C Thompson, A Boucaud, A Coombes, R Murray, R Nangle.

David Bell started, now there’s a player who I am amazed passed his medical! I just looked it up, he had four operations in three and half seasons prior to joining us. So yes his time with us went exactly as you’d have expected. And Adam Coombes coming off the bench to score that equaliser, he's now an absolute stalwart of the National League South scene.

Some good players in there too to be fair, I loved Bailkowski, Dumbuya, Liddle, McGregor and Campbell-Ryce all really good players for us in League 1. It was a great occasion, had the match happened today it would’ve gone straight to pens, maybe we’d have had a different outcome!

Very good point @canuckpie Every head Coach we have had have players they have preferred over others. I thought the Technical Board would stop that sort of thing happening.

I don’t think it’s strange. He’s under pressure, and managers often say things like this when results aren’t going well. Martin Paterson probably knows how the club is handling recruitment. He might feel Notts aren’t looking for the type of player he thinks we need, and he could be hoping fans speak up more. Or maybe it’s just a way to shift focus because things haven’t gone our way. I do think we need a striker. Kelle Roos might be okay, but he’s not going to win awards or keep many clean sheets. Still, the defence has to take some of the blame too.

I Think this Proves Patterson Isn't the Right man for the Job. The Recruitment team don't have a Clue, and the Club need to ship players out who are Not League 2 Standard.

We are on a fixed tariff so it won't go up in our household for now. But I suppose we are only delaying the inevitable.

Yet they find their ways of taking more money from you, one way or another. The prices can't be justified. Something needs to be done to make them fairer again, but for now we have to tolerate it because nobody will try to make a difference. What makes me wonder is my friends in America who can use air conditioning throughout the day, but in the UK we have to choose between when warming our houses is affordable.

It's not a problem during heat waves, but in the winter months it's awful when you spend silly money just to stay warm.

I know the sentiment about passing things down in line, but your son will be living on with his siblings children. Repurposing items like jewelry or ornaments can be quite challenging. I hope you can find somewhere within your family, that they can be passed down too.

I don't live in the same area as I did when I was in my childhood. Areas can be different in their own ways but there is a constant that seems to be missing between neighbourhoods of 60 years ago & now.

As a boy I was brought up on pit estates where the tenants would be exclusively NCB employees. They were special neighbourhoods where everyone would know everyone else on the streets where we lived.

When I was very young, before my Mum started work, the back door always seems to be open. A neighbour would knock on the door for a chinwag & the kettle would go on the stove for the proverbial cup of tea with a biscuit to go with it.

My Mum would visit a neighbour in the same way too. This is something you never see nowadays. The sense of community just doesn't seem the same in this day and age. The back door is securely locked & I think that is the sign of the times no matter what neighbourhood you live in.

When I last visited the street I lived on from the age of 10 ,in Alfreton where I was brought up ,the thing that I noticed immediately was the number of cars. parked there. I used to walk that street to and from school and then there was probably a couple of vehicles parked at the most.Now there were cars parked on both sides of the road for the entire length.It must be a nightmare now for the school bus drivers delivering or collecting pupils every morning and late afternoon.

The main changes I've noticed in the area I've resided in for the last 40 plus years isn't so much the shops(which @Chris has already described) but the number of foreign residents here now.I walked to the local shops last week and realised how multiracial the area has now become.

i am glad the sites fine and that the bookmark app has returned, shame about the issues but not everything can be foreseen. just appreciate the update and explanation.

I am and have always believed transparacy and accountability are important values. Most might not care for the updates I provide, but it's there for those who do and it's their for those who might.

Recently, a server update caused some issues for the site.

You might have noticed last Thursday we had some issues with errors; this is because Redis (a cache system) failed, and there were a number of issues preventing me from being able to fix it. Temporarily, I switched to a file-based cache while I investigated the issue.

Yesterday, a friend took the time to look into this issue with me, and he fixed the issue caused by the server's packet updates.

I didn't mention anything until now, as I wanted to wait for it to be confirmed as fixed, and usually giving it several hours will allow you to see everything is playing nicely again. So, Redis is now enabled, and the performance should be back to normal.

I wouldn’t let it put you off just because only a few people replied. These things can take time, and sometimes folk need a bit of encouragement. I’m always up for hearing about new players. Please think about giving it another go, you can always follow up later with how your picks move between clubs. You never know, it might spark more interest.

Well I saw that Harrison Burke scored for Walsall at the weekend (you know the centre-back that WE should've signed).

Then got a reply saying it was tiring that I was mentioning a player I'd put in the recruitment doc again.

Just to remind you, not just did Burke win the game for Walsall, he also kept a clean sheet, something we haven't done all season.

@Piethagoram, I always tried to comment and support them in the past, the thing is it's quite hard at times. You might be drawn to watching the player, whereas I might see something else and not find suggestions to be very good personally.

I also didn't like disagreeing, as often I would pass based on what I would see but you clearly have an eye for it.

There have been times when I've noted good players, but with the posts not happening, I tend to discard them. If you did put a scouting dossier post, I would chip in when I feel I can write something of value. I wouldn't take any disinterest from few responses, it's difficult but you may prompt others like @menzinho to add their thoughts.

Not everyone feels comfortable judging players based on a game(s), but that does invalidate your effort. I have always enjoyed them too.

well, if we sold jatta for a good fee, maybe we could pay something close to what they are asking?

if it led to a bidding war, we would not be able to compete unless the player thought he would develop more with us and then wages tends to do the talking. i dont want to tarnish every player like this but i think this being a realistic signing seems slim to me.

There was an interview with him that said he wanted to move to keep his chances of getting in the Northern Ireland team and potentially getting to play in the World Cup. I think he'd be looking a touch higher than League 2 if that was the case.

Also I can't see us spending £1 million to sign him, in League 2 that kind of transfer fee is madness.

Well, we are not MK Dons are we? They spent £800,000 alegedly to sign Ex-Notts loanee Aaron Collins.

During the AH years, we almost signed him permanently, instead of him moving to Morecambe but he was deemed not good enough. He's a decent striker, not always prolific but he has had a good record with his previous two teams. I wouldn't send what MK Dons did to sign him mind, as it is a waste of money. We could do a lot more with the money, than a single luxary purchase.

I don't think there is "frustration or exasperation"when it comes to those two. I'm sure they are going to be valuable assets for Notts this season on the flanks.

@Robbie, It’s only a bit of fun, but Kellan Gordon reminds me of a tap. One minute he’s boiling, the next he’s freezing. You never quite know what you’re going to get. Keanan Bennetts is still a bit of a mystery. The jury might not be out, but if you gave him a shoe box to defend, I’m not sure it would survive the half.

That said, they’re both decent squad players. They’ve got their moments, just as they’ve got their off days. You take the rough with the smooth.

Following the results only, it could be that this transfer is a complete nightmare

Last night, an unused sub in a 8-0 defeat, Vitoria slump into the relegation places with the worst form in Serie A.

He's only totalled a few sub minutes since he got there, but if doesn't get more time after a 8-0 loss, then he may be wasting his time there.

He probably on decent money but it is a shame that he is not getting many minutes on the playing field. I'm sure the fans are Notts would have him back in an instant.
