Paul Mace mentioned he was off to Italy soon for the Serie C play offs
So an interesting fact per Wikipedia, lowest Serie C crowd was 26 (Juventus next generation)!

After Notts Extremely Poor Performance at FGR the Knives are out for Stuart Maynard. Here is a Selection of Social media comments on the Notts Boss.
I wont be going to Meadow Lane if SM is still there.
No Passion. No Improvement in Defence and getting worse in Attack.
SM moved Jodi the top assister into several positions which in Turn Killed Macca's chances in scoring 30+ goals this Season.
Failed to fix the Defence while Breaking the Attack.
Fans deserve so much more. 1,200 fans show their loyalty and the players Don't even break into a sweat. FGR game.
We had the makings of a League 1 team, but with Maynard in charge the NL Beckons.
The Spirit built by LW as been Destroyed.
That is just a small selection of the Fans feelings regarding Stuart Maynard are they fair or unfair?
I have Produced this Piece in hope it Encourages Debate and we can all have our Say and Express our feelings as to the goings on at the Lane.

I agree with you that there are much more balanced views on this site and I agree that there are some unhappy fans out there, but I believe they are in the minority.
Were there fans critical of Williams, if course there were? There will always be those who are critical no matter what the circumstances.
But some fans have given Williams a pass because he got us promoted. Let's remember that things could have been quite different in the playoff semifinal & final. In that final Notts were second best on the day.
I for one, am very critical of Williams for not having a plan B or a plan C. He was getting hot under the collar during the latter stages of his tenure.
I want impressed that he ran out of the Club, when he should have seen it through to the end of the season.
One thing you can say about Maynard , he might get frustrated but he doesn't show it. I like a Manager that can keep calm no matter what. Better decisions are made that way.
As for Jodi, he can play in a variety of positions either on the left or right. (He's not comfortable playing as an orthodox wing back though).
It's a good thing tactics wise when Notts have a winger that can play on the left or right. Lots of teams do it.
Stuart would have asked the player himself if he were comfortable playing on the right occasionally, so I don't see any problem there.
-
I'm in full agreement with you regarding Williams and since he's gone back to Swansea he certainly, hasn't torn up any trees it will be interesting to see what happens to him, if the Swans only have or seem to be heading for another mediocre season next season.
There maybe another problem for Maynard, that's interference from above from the likes of Richard Montague and any "Professional" annalists which may or may not be behind the scenes at Notts. Plus if he's been told to Stick to the playing "Model" (I've really Gotten to Hate that term) System no matter what, then that will hamper his Coaching Methods. And if the Recruitment isn't Spot on and Notts start losing matches, then Maynard is Left as the scapegoat and takes All the Flak from the Fans. After all friend Montague isn't going to put his hand up and Say Publicly "The Recruitment Team Got It Wrong"
What I think would be Interesting is Getting One of the Anti- Stuart Maynard Notts Fans on this Platform and Discuss why they think Maynard shouldn't be in the Meadow Lane Dug Out. Hello Any One Out There? Ready to Debate?
-
We can agree that the current playing model just cannot be rigid.
If Notts are going to get promotion next year they are going to have to modify that playing model in a few ways.
We've discussed this before but Notts need a plan B, C and maybe D to deal with different teams and pitches that they play on.
They need to be able to battle at times, harry and grind results out, they have to employ safety first at the back, deal with free kicks, corners & Crosses, they have to learn to defend in numbers, counter attack when necessary and they have to be strong, physical and mean.
I will be looking with interest in the type of players that they bring in. If it's more of the same type of player, or a different type to what they have had over the last few years.
For me, the pre season friendlies, followed by the first five league games will tell us a lot about Notts's new season playing style, any modifications to that style, possible plan B or C.
We should have a good idea by then if Maynard will succeed or not.

Seems to have been something of a bit-part player wherever he's gone - his 28 appearances this season were the most he's managed to date, and half of them were off the bench. However, he's also a veteran of Port Vale's successful play-off campaign the other year and has played in League One. We'll see what happens (or doesn't).

What a player we have in Macca he’ll be remembered by Notts fans long after he moves on which hopefully won’t be just yet.
-
Would love him to stay for another season to try for a total of 100 goals. That would be something special in just three seasons.

All 28 goals that earned that golden boot.

@Fan of Big Tone We all knew our shortcomings... even if Notts didn't admit their interest in Conor Keeley .... exactly the type of defender needed
Perhaps the targets in January were unachievable, who knows...

I can’t read the article unless I pay but I get the gist, it’s a real shame we didn’t land him he could have made all the difference but surely we had back up plans? As you say they may have been unachievable but if you can’t get Player A move to Player B and so on until you’ve solved the problem that was clear to see in the defence.

Flat finish to a season that started so brightly and dropped away alarmingly. Regroup needed, but generally I'm happy we stayed up, which to me was the aim to start with. Next season push on.

That’s a great goal, the thing I remember about Weston was his mazy runs.

@Fan of Big Tone A Brentford supporting friend always reminds me that Brentford were robbed of £25k being the tribunal fixed fee

I know we all love to hate the Stags but let’s be magnanimous and congratulate them on their well deserved promotion. Nigel Clough has managed them well, slow but steady progress over the years, buying decent players, they deserve their promotion so well done.

Nice to see the fans come out in Mansfield for the open top bus parade today. Thousands of fans came out and lined the route.
Promotion to league 2 is great for the town of Mansfield and for the County too.
-
Not gonna lie but I didn’t bother with that today. It baffles me why any club would have an open top parade for finishing 2nd or 3rd and in typical Stags style they gave up 2nd place to Wrexham!
Still I’m glad others disagreed with me and came out to support them.

I’m with @ARLukomskiand @Piethagoramon this, but think we may have to look at loaning out some of the two year contract players as cannot see us mutually cancelling them all. I really fear for the clubs thinking if we offer Baldwin a contract, on his day he is good enough but he must have at least a dozen assists for the opposition.
I also can’t see us bringing in at least 12 new signings so think we will be using most as squad players. I can see us bringing 8 players in maximum to be honest and any more would depend on first teamers such as Macca leaving.
Stone has to go, he’s poor at claiming crosses, doesn’t talk and isn’t a great shot stopper either. He’s just not built like a modern day rangy shot stopper, he’s a bit short and doesn’t have a great leap, I would even keep Slocombe above him, he is that poor.
Can see Chicksen and Cameron definitely staying for another year as squad players.

Congratulations to Jodi Jones who has won more awards.
Jodi has added to his trophy collection by winning Players' Player of the Season - as well as an Outstanding Achievement award in recognition of his record-breaking haul of 24
What an outstanding season it's been for him.

What’s everyone’s plans this weekend?
I’m doing my park run on Saturday morning, Mrs. T is coming along and walking the 5k course with our son. In the afternoon I’ll be that knackered I’ll just sit and listen to the match or stream it to my tv if stream is available.
Sunday if it’s fine I want to get out in the garden to tidy it up fingers crossed.
Whats everyone else doing this weekend? Anyone travelling to Forest Green?

The trouble is @Fan of Big Tone that there are Magpie Fans that will dive on this and use it against Maynard and if Notts don't hit the Ground running next season then Pressure will start building on Maynard to Go. Many Fans have stated on this site the "Model" way Notts play is wrong for League 2 and Despite Maynard's tweaking the above table speaks for it's self. And next Season the Well it's not Maynard's team but Luke William's excuse will be gone. After this past season results plus the increase in season ticket and admission prices it will be interesting to see what kind of Drop in attendance or Not will happen down the Lane.
-
Yes I’m sure you are right @Wheelbarrow repair man some fans will jump on anything to prove their point that Maynard is not the man to take us forward but whatever you or I or any fan thinks it will be the owners who decide and they seem to have faith in him for now so it’s no good us bleating on about his record because it won’t change anything, let’s see what happens in the close season and for the first 10 games, if things go badly I’m sure the brothers will act accordingly.
-
I think that after that performance any doubts about what players to be retained and those players to be let go, who's contracts are up on 30th June may have been finally answered.

Sorry but I wouldn't give the players a rating for this match, because the whole team didn't turn up in the real sense. To lose to the bottom side the way they did was inexcusable.
A win would have lifted the Club and the supporters by finishing the season on a high. The way they finished was the way they started the season
Some of those players on the team sheet won't be on a Notts team sheet next season.
-
-
2 Wembley appearances incoming too
Very much remember he was a poor Neal Bishop replacement but has since gone on to prove a good stalwart for lower league clubs.
-
-
Sorry Don't Care he made a callosal mistake at Notts by stating It's My Way Or The Highway. Which he may have got away with if he'd been a decent sort of manager. Owner at the time Alan Hardy got something right for once by getting rid of him Early Doors. And he didn't pull up any trees in any other of his English football Coaching positions. Yeah Coaching in Japan might just be about his level. He certainly wasn't Going To Make it at the Lane. He seemed to get both Players and Fans backs up Not something you need from your Head Coach.
-
Kewell was probably appointed partly due to his excellent reputation as a player, but excellent players don't always make good managers or coaches. We've seen it in the past and we will see it again.
Funnily enough, I was quite encouraged when he was appointed but soon got dissilusioned with him.
-
I wish that bloke nothing but failure in all that he attempts.

Another Club Struggling because of Poor Ownership. Who Vets these People (Is it the EFL OR FA) who want to own a Club and Why aren't they doing their Jobs Properly?
-
"Acquisition of Control & Owners & Directors’ Test"
"In any potential ‘takeover’ or acquisition of control as it is formally known, it is the responsibility of the Club in question to inform the EFL of a proposed change".
"Once the League has been made aware, the process of making the necessary checks against the requirements of EFL Regulations will then begin. The Regulations ultimately set the criteria regarding who is permitted to own a Club, or exercise control over it, and whether they meet the requirements to do so."
https://www.efl.com/governance/acquisition-of-control-the-owners-directors-test/
The tests that are undertook by the EFL are obviously not thorough enough are they.
Morecambe is not the first club to get into trouble like this, and they won't be the last either.

Just looked on transfer market website for Notts County.
Out of the squad of 27
Three are loan players contracts expire 31 May 2024
Seven players contracts including 4 defenders expire this summer 2024.
Twelve player's contracts including 3 defenders expire summer 2025
Three player's contracts expire 2026
Two players contracts expire 2027
So we will await the retained list out of the squad of 27
-
Now there's another idea for a New Topic Robbie. Name all the current Squad and the length of their contracts and we can all go over the Pro's and Con's of each Individual player . Reckon it will produce a good Debate.

Very poor show from Barnsley sacking a Manager with one game to go.
If they saw the writing on the wall it should have been done earlier so that a new man could get to know his players and how they play before the end of the season.
Now a new person has to be recruited then start from scratch after a summer break, and wait till the start of next season to be able to find out what his best team is.
How can the Barnsley powers that be think that the team will make a blinding start to next season when they don't even have a new man at the helm yet?
-
For some added context, Barnsley have looked dead certs for the playoffs at least, but after a string of defeats they need to win their final game to be sure of a spot on the top six.
All the same, this is a panic move aimed at saving their season. The idea that the players were deliberately throwing away their chances of promotion in protest against the head coach is absurd.

I've found some interesting statistics regarding the different way Notts score their goals and have a revealing comparison with the three promoted teams.
Notts
Goals by open play 74%
Goals by set piece 15%
Goals by counter attack 6%
Penalties 6% (Percentages were rounded up).
Interestingly
Stockport, by set piece 25%,
Wrexham, by set piece 24%
Mansfield, by set piece 20%
Something that needs to be improved is our goal tally by set pieces.
Notts lead the statistics in goals by open play, but set pieces are an important part of the game for getting a goal and this is where Notts are lacking compared to the three promoted teams.
Jatta may improve this statistic next season, but we need some tall defenders too which we can utilise for set pieces.
