After coming back onto the PON Website, after doing other StuffΒ

I Suddenly find that a Greenlight is Flashing around the W of my User Name. There's a Big Green Banner which says Wheelbarrow Rep, it's NotΒ  just my User Name but all PON Members who are on line, that's Flashing. Is this a New Thing? Or is it some Technical Glitch, that's only Happening on My Screen?

If it's the Former Please Stop It, Because It's Extremely Off Putting. Really there's Nothing Worse than trying to read someone's Comment when you can see this Flashing Greenlight at the Edge of Your Vision, it keeps Dragging My eyes back to the Movement.Β  If it's the latter I hope Someone Can Put It Right.

Thanks

As Notts prepare to Face Harrogate at the Lane this coming Saturday, there may be another fixture which will be of interest to Magpie Fans. The 26th sees Millwall take on Swansea at the Den. Which of course means Macaulay Langstaff facing his Old Notts Boss Luke Williams.

There are of course certain criteria to be met, before such a Contest can come about. Macca will have to be Picked for the Millwall Starting XI. Will the Lions Head Coach give Macca the nod to be his main Striker against the Swans? Or will he be on the Bench? You know Macca will be Itching for a Crack at William's Swansea side, after scoring a Majority of his 70 Notts Goals while playing under Williams while a member of his Notts side. With just a Single goal to his Credit since his move from Meadow Lane Macca will be anxious to get back on the Score Sheet who better than against the Man who did such a lot for his Career? After all William's Man Management Skills certainly had such a Positive effect on Macca, something he stated many times in Interviews, it makes you wonder how Much the Guy misses the Influence Encouragement and Help of Williams on his Footballing Life, and how much this may have had an effect on his Millwall Career.

So will Macca come Good on Saturday, and Score against His Old Boss's New Team or will Luke Williams set his Defense up in such a way to Cancel Out Macca's Threat in front of Goal?

As a Foot Note. A Final Question If Macca had gone to Swansea instead of Millwall Do You Think He'd Have More Goals To His Name By Now?

  • I agree that good players can make an average coach look good, & the ability of a club that can buy the best players can make an average Coach look good too.

I that's my point when it comes to the top sides in the PL.They can recruit the best players that can make Coaches like Guardiola look good.

I'm not saying that a coaches like Guardiola are bad, I'm making a point that Guardiola & his ilk would do no better with the players that are at Swansea right now than anyone else.

It Still Rankles with Me and other Magpie Fans I know, with Richard Montague Beating His Chest Declaring It will take a Massive Offer for Macca to Leave the Lane. Yeah Blah Blah Blah. I still think there's more to Macca's leaving than We Fans are being told. The whole Truth of the situation May Never Come Out. I think I heard there was an Agreement that Luke Williams wouldn't Poach any players from Notts when he went to Swansea. But I Couldn't see how such an Agreement would Stand Up in a Court of Law. Interestingly Enough Macca was full of Praise for his Head Coach at Gateshead and before William's appointment wasn't there a rumor that the GatesheadΒ  Coach at the time was on Notts Radar? Before they settled on Luke Williams. So both the Gateshead Coach and Luke Williams got the Best out of Macca, by playing to his Strengths, while it appears the Head Coach at Millwall doesn't seem Bothered about trying to Get the Best Out Of Macca.

I also remember after Macca's Departure there was a Rumor that Leeds had flown Macca back to the UK from Millwall's Spanish training Camp to sign for them, only for him to be Loaned Straight back to the Lions for this Season. Rumors Rumors they abound some have some form of truth to them. Such has the Strong Rumor that I stated on the PON Site that Jodi could be out for up to Six weeks, which was Confirmed by the Club Days Later. We'll get the Truth of Macca's Leeds Rumor at the End of this season or maybe even January.Β  Because Leeds play more in the way that Macca has become used toΒ  so is Millwall just a Stop Gap and this isΒ  Why Macca doesn't seem to be getting a Regular Starting Spot? We'll have to wait and See.

I was upset when Macca left, but I think the Notts team have moved on now. Of course Macca's goal scoring exploits are going to be missed, however, the Notts defence is much more water tight than it was when Macca was scoring all those goals last season.

I still believe that we need another specialist striker in the January window to take the pressure off Jatta and Didzy.Β Hopefully Scott may return too, as soon as he feels well enough.

I think it is also incumbent on Macca to try to adapt to the way Millwall play. I am sure that he is good enough to give it a good go.Β

We also have to bear in mind that Notts play a little differently to how they played when Macca was here. Notts have more emphasis on defence now, & we even see Crowley tracking back in defence, so it might not have been so easy for Macca at Notts this season.

    Β

There's been lots of talk about Stuart Maynard using Inverted Wingbacks this season, but what does the term actually mean?

"The main difference between an inverted wingback & a standard wingback is thatΒ an inverted wingback drifts inside to create space & support the attack, while a standard wingback provides width to the attack":Β Β

Inverted wingback

"Drifts inside from the flank or a central position to support the attack.Β They can switch between attacking, defending, & supporting duties depending on the team's mentality".Β Β

Standard wingback

"Usually the widest player on the field, their role is to stretch the pitch & provide width for the team.Β They also look to get into advanced positions to cross the ball into the penalty area".Β Β

Source GoogleΒ

This tactic can be used by quite easily by changing either to one shape or the other during a game, or by substitutions.

Stuart has been utilising this tactic this season. It does help to keep the opposition guessing, but I think since Jodi has been injured he has utilised it much more.

We saw this tactic to good effect against Barrow when Tsaroulla was making runs from the back then cutting inside to either shoot or pass.

I think this will be a tactic that Stuart will use quite a lot this season. It will remain to be seen how successful the tactic is, but it is certainly worth a try.

Now I know You Young 'Un's' Will Think I'm Daft. But Once Upon A Time, a Football Team had Players called a Center Half, a Left Half and a Right Half and these Players used help out the Defense, in Particular the Center Half who used to Mark and try and Keep the Opposing Center Forward from Getting the Ball and Scoring a Goal Against his team. the other Left Half and Right Half would help out the Defense and along with a Left and a Right Full Back would form the Defensive unit along with the Goalkeeper.

Now once a member of the Defense got the ball, he would sometimes Kick the Ball straight back up the Pitch ( I Know Crazy Isn't It) while another time he would Pass the Ball to a Player called a Winger, who would take the ball along the side of the Pitch skipping past the Opponents Defenders, then he would do what was called Center the Ball he'd kick the ball High across the Penalty Box so His Team's Center Forward would Jump the Highest and Score with a Header. Other times the Winger would pass the ball to either the Inside Right or Inside Left (depending on which side of the Pitch the Winger was on) who would then have a Shot at Goal, sometimes from a Great Distance and sometimes the Winger would also have a Shot at Goal, once they were on the Edge of the Penalty Box and they would either Score a Goal or the Goal keeper would make a Save, or a Defender would get in the way and the Attackers (for that is what they were Called) shot and the Ball would hit the Defender on some part of his Body and the Ball would Bounce away from the Goal or might be Deflected into the Goal after it had Hit the Defender. So that meant the Attackers usually Scored the Goals while the Defenders stopped Attackers from scoring by tackling them, each player had a Job to do and each player did it the Attackers attacked the Goal and tried to Score while the Defenders, defended the Ball and tried to Stop the opposition scoring in their Goal. And just like Nowadays the Team who put the Ball into the Net more than the other Team were Declared the Winners, after exactly 90 minutes of Football. Not 90+4 or 90+6 or even 90+9 Minutes.Β  That's Just 45 minutes in Each Half, then the Game came to an End.

And that's the Truth. Honest. And No I've Not Had A Bang On The Head, it Happened just Like That.

When I started watching football there was no such thing as a "midfielder" The termΒ "midfielder"Β began to be used especially after the early 1970s, when the term "half-back" fell out of use.

Before then, the goalkeeper would, 99% of the time, punt the ball as far as he could, & the same with a goal kick.Β

It was after then that the continental influence took hold as far as I can see.

But getting back onto topic, do PON members think that the inverted wingback tactic is a good tactic for Notts to use especially with Jodi being out till the new year?

Interestingly, Gareth Southgate used a similar Inverted Wingback tacticΒ  earlier this year in theΒ European Championship.

For the inverted wingbacks I’ll say it’s not been a disaster because Tsaroulla had a good game against Barrow and likewise Gordon against Chesterfield, but it’s not exactly been a revelation either. There have been games where they have struggled too. Personally, I’m still not too sure, I think Jodi is a bit of an exception as his skill level far exceeds our other wide players and he spent his whole career playing as a right-sided attacker before he came to us.

I just can’t get past how they have to do so much more with their weaker foot at times, especially crossing. It's a lot harder to try and dribble down the wing using your weaker foot too. Being able to come inside and shoot is good, and I get that makes sense when you play inverted wingers/inside forwards but is the main role of a wingback to try and score?

Looks like the new owners are impatient for success. Why can't clubs give the Head Coach time to turn things around?

A new Head Coach will take time to settle in, & get to know his players. After he's settled in, the new Coach may not gel with his players, or the players may not like the new coaching methods.

Changing the coach is not always successful. But nowadays these owners want instant success.

I'm pleased that we have owners at Notts who don't have that mindset. Stuart Maynard start at Notts wasn't the best, but just look at Notts now.

  • Hold On, Hold On. If the Team is Based in Dronfield Derbyshire. How the Hell Can they be called Sheffield FC?

The Last time I looked Sheffield was in Yorkshire. Do you Remember the HOOAHΒ  Wimbledon Faced when they moved to Milton Keynes, and they wanted to Keep Wimbledon's Heritage and History, the same Club just a Different Name something Fans Still Rage About to the Present Day. So surely that means Sheffield FCΒ  No Longer Exist and Notts County are the Oldest Football Club in the World? You Can't have it Both Ways, that Being Wimbledon once they moved to Milton Keynes, became MK Dons, a Club with No Footballing History, But Dronfield FC or Whatever can still class themselves Sheffield FC and still carry the Monika, of the World First Football Club, when Technically the Club Doesn't Exist.

    @Wheelbarrow repair man

The Club is domestically (FA) &Β  internationally (FIFA) recognised as the oldest official football club, but they never became a league club because they didn't recognise the FAs football rules quickly enough to help found the Football League.

"Sheffield Football Club (Sheffield F.C.) moved to Dronfield in 2001Β to have a permanent home ground.Β Before then, the club played on borrowed pitches, including Sandygate in Sheffield & Abbeydale Sports Club".

Sheffield FC compete in the 8th tier of the football pyramid, in theΒ Isthmian Northeast Division one.

Here's their story on wiki. Interesting read.

It seems that their reluctance to adhere to FA rules until 1878, prevented them from being one of the founder members of the football league.

    EN.M.WIKIPEDIA.ORG

    Β

Notts also played under Sheffield rules in the early days. Sheffield missed out on the Football League because they stayed amateur while other clubs were (illegally) hiring professional players. In the space of about a decade they went from being one of the country's leading clubs to being on the receiving end of regular spankings from Notts and the Lancashire clubs and were in serious decline by the 1880s.

As for Dronfield, it's right outside of Sheffield, so not comparable with MK being 80 miles from Wimbledon. They're currently building a permanent home in Sheffield. I think we should arrange a friendly when it's finished. Maybe even in retro kits?

With all the international attention they get, I can't help wondering if someone very rich will try to do a Salford with them one day. We'll have to take some signage down if they do!Β

Game 13 - The Bluebirds (A)

Team: Barrow

Where: Holker Street

What line-up should Stuart Maynard opt for? What will be the key areas for the Magpies to get a victory? What do you think the final score will be?

I agree we don't have the fire power this season. And Notts must vary their tactics too instead of playing out of the back constantly.Β

The opposition have found a way to combat it, & Notts need to try to do things differently to keep the opposition guessing.

I also think that Dan Crowley is less effective without Jodi in the side. Jodi can create space by taking defenders with him.Β

No one else is doing that at the moment although Tsaroulla did well last night & could help create more space for Crowley in future games.

I found the game a bit disjointed at times, particularly in the first half. Barrow were well-structured and capitalised on their opportunity effectively. We seemed to struggle with our precision in the final third, which prevented us from gaining momentum before the break.

However, the second half was a significant improvement. We applied more pressure, moved the ball more swiftly, and created some solid opportunities. McGoldrick's equaliser was definitely deserved, and I felt we had a chance to claim victory after that. Overall, a draw feels justifiable. It adds another point to our tally, and we continue to progress.

As we've got an (almost) full set of fixtures on Tuesday night, here are some more fixtures to predict! They all kick off at 7.45pm, and don't forget your joker!

Β

Cardiff City v Portsmouth

Leeds United v Watford

Bristol Rovers v Shrewsbury Town

Peterborough United v Blackpool

Fleetwood Town v Crewe Alexandra

Tranmere Rovers v Grimsby Town

Dagenham & Redbridge v Eastleigh

Tamworth v Yeovil Town

We had a very good player on our hands when we signed Johnnie Jackson. I thought it was a brilliant signing, and I believe his time with us could have been better had he managed to settle in Nottingham.

However, I overheard comments he made about Notts, Nottingham, and other matters during a meeting at my former workplace.

The media reported that he couldn't settle with his family in Nottingham, but the truth is he saw signing for us as a step back in his career. He believed he was bigger than Notts County and had already made efforts to leave, but we would only allow him to go out on loan at first.

Professional players sometimes come with attitudes, and while you could easily forgive a young player for being ambitious, what I heard from him that day has been something I found difficult to forget. I don't dislike him; I hate him. Any player who believes Notts would be a good move, only to become two-faced and feel entitled to play at a higher level, doesn't deserve respect. He didn't like fighting for his place, and while I don't particularly care if he hated Nottingham, disrespecting Notts County really angered me.

  • At the end of the day he just played around half the league games in the 2009/10 season. He was either injured or loaned out.

He wasn't a major player in that promotion year. For me he was a player mostly seen on the sidelines for Notts, and to sum up it really did not work out for him while he was at Meadow Lane.

The problem with the Munto season was that it was always going to attract those types of players. You get to drop down a league(s), play easier opposition (so yes you will look a better player) and you get paid more, quite a lot more as was the supposed case at Notts!

In a way the whole Sol Campbell saga probably put a stop to anymore players just coming for the money. But I agree with @upthepies, it is funny how Sol got all the criticism because he was essentially the first one to figure out all was not as it seemed. I guess us as fans just didn’t want to hear it…

    1 hour ago, menzinho said:

I think that's it in a nutshell. I remember that Guardian columnist who was onto Munto from the start getting dog's abuse as well. His "crime" was to shine a light on the project we'd all invested so much hope in. But a player leaving because he "can't settle"? Happens all the time, shame but cheerio.

Football is probably full of characters who think they're bigger than the clubs they're at, especially since many were now coached at academies of major clubs and told they were the next big thing before ending up at Crinkly Bottom Rangers AFC.

It would seem that 82 year Old Sir Alex Ferguson is being sounded out about a Return to Old Trafford,Β  for one more season should present Head Coach Erik Ten Hag be Dismissed from his position.

Not Wishing to Sound Ageist I find this Highly Unlikely, the pressure of the Modern Game would take a Massive Strain on an 82 year old's health, both Physically and Mentally.

So I would say NO Sir Alex, stay as you are and Enjoy your Retirement,Β  and keep your Legacy in tact you have after all Nothing to Prove.

Should Fergie Return to Old Trafford or Not?

219 years ago today, the British Navy, under the CommandΒ  of Vice Admiral Horatio Nelson, defeated a combined French & Spanish Navy at Trafalgar..

The victory secured British dominance of the sea for the next 120 years.

Should we continue to celebrate this day in history?

I believe we should.

Since the Arrival of Pop Music back in the 1950's , songs have in the Main been about Love. Love Won, or Love Lost, the Singers feelings about their Relationships their Hopes and Fears, and what makes it all the More Incredible, back at the Start of the 50's the whole Story would be put to Music and Told in a little under 3 minutes. The Record which began the Musical Revolution is usually the King of Rock n Roll (Elvis Presley, for our younger readers) massive Number One Hit Heartbreak Hotel. That song was inspired by a Suicide Note found by the Police on a Man's body somewhere in America, and reported in a Local Newspaper. The Note it's self carries the Line "I walk a lonely Street". The Lyricist read the report and thought to himself, Now where does this Lonely Street lead to? Of course Heartbreak Hotel, and as they say the Rest is History.

In My own opinion the Greatest Songwriter/Performer of the 1950's was Buddy Holly, his volume of work and Hits which he recorded in such a Small Space ofΒ  time was truly Amazing. Buddy could tell a Story of Love and Loss, his Hopes and Dreams about his Relationship, and all usually in under Two and a Half Minutes. Incredible. His smash hit Peggy Sue (originally Cindy Lou) was dedicated to a Girlfriend of a Band Member of the Crickets, Buddy's backing Group. Before he died Buddy was having some fun Banter with Waylon Jennings a Prodgie of Buddy's . In Jest Buddy said he hopedΒ  the Bus Waylon was travelling all the heating would pack up and he'dΒ  Freeze. To which Waylon answered Well I Hope That Little Old Plane Of Yours Crashes!! Unfortunately for Waylon it did, Killing Buddy Richie Valens and the Big Bopper. Years later American Singer/Song Writer Don McClean wrote his Classic Hit American Pie, in which the line the Day the Music Died, referring to the Tragic Accident. People often Wonder what Buddy would have gone on to accomplish musically had he lived.

In the 60's was the Emergence of the Battle of the Bands. Namely in the UK The Beatles or The Rolling Stones. Chart success and Sales wise it was the Beatles, who had 20 Number One Hits. However the Stones win the Longevity Award. The 1970's was my Era, when I started to listen to Music and buy Records. I was more into the Heavy Rock Scene than the Charts,Β  I did however buy Singles. Going back to the Story telling in Songs Terry Jacks had a Hit Single in the 70's titled Seasons In The Sun. A Story of a Friend who Died Of Cancer. Once Punk Arrived I went fully back into Heavy Rock. Once I got married and older my Musical Tastes did mellow slightly, but I've never Entirely abandoned my Rock Roots. And certain Records Do (like most People) Evoke Some wonderful Memories or In a Few cases Not So wonderful.

I Don't Listen to Pop Music Nowadays,( like all Previous Generations before me have said in turn) I think Present Day Music is Crap. I mean a Love Song with the Lyrics "I will catch a Grenade for you" Wow, what type of Person would want to Go out with someone, who gets Grenades Thrown at Them? Nope I'm Going Back To Wallow in Nostalgia. How about You?

@Wheelbarrow repair manΒ My cousin was 11 years older than me, she was an Everly Brothers, Dion, & Buddy Holly fan, she liked Elvis too.Β

I was only four at the time, but when we visited my Aunt, my cousin, she'd put her record player on & I'd listen to all of them.

I Soon knew the words off by heart, Cathy's Clown, Bye Bye Love, Runaround Sue, Can't help falling in love, True love ways, & many more.

Ah @RobbieΒ True Love Ways. Now that is the First Song Me and the Wife Danced to as Man & Wife. In fact it was the Missus that got me into Buddy Holly (despite the fact she's a few years younger than me) the Music of the 50's was always being played when she was living at Home and of course that Music was an influence of what she listened to growing up and even nowadays, it's the same.

My Mum was a (50s heartthrob) Guy Michell fan. We had lots of his records including, "Singing the blues", "Heartaches by the number" " My Heart Cries for you"

We had lots of Nat King Cole records too, so I was familiar with quite a few 50s singers & their songs, like Perry ComoΒ

In my teenage years I think that why I rebelled & became a heavy rock fan. But now I like all sorts of music , even classical.

I hope he’s ok.

  • Cedwyn Scott is clearly in trouble, and it’s good to see the club supporting him. We all know he is a very capable player, but he might be feeling the pressure of his own performance when things aren’t going well.

It’s encouraging that the club has reached out to him. Hopefully, with time, he will start to feel better. It’s important for a player to feel comfortable, especially when there are many eyes on the game.

Taking the time for personal development will help him improve. Everyone should welcome this support and use it to encourage himself to get better.

Everyone at the club should give him the time he needs. Some things are more important than football. Notts can bring in another striker to cover (on loan), but Cedwyn only has one life. Hope to see him back soon, enjoying life and enjoying his football!

With the Departure of the Man who took him to Manchester City and Pep Guardiola's Contract with City coming to an End in June Next Year, City's Brazilian Goalkeeper Ederson seems to have the Drop on everybody else, stating the Club already have Coaches Lined up to take over Pep's position should he depart the Etihad. Ruben Amorin, Xabi Alonso and Roberto De Zerbi are the Men in Question. So Not Unlike the England Job and the appointment of Thomas Tuchel it would seem that the CurrentΒ  English Premier League Champions are Ignoring any English Coach for their Head Coach's Position.

Rumor has it that Pep is going to be offered around the Β£18 Million mark to extend his Contract at City.Β  And it is Now being Stated he Did Want the England Job, but Dithered about and Missed the FA's Deadline to come up with a Definite Answer, so the Position went to Ex-Bayern Boss Tuchel. Which to Me Seems Strange, because if the FA Wanted Guardiola that Badly surely they would have Given Him as Much Time as He Wanted? I would come Down on the Side of Pep Wanted To Much Money, and the FA merely Couldn't Afford Him.

So What Now For Pep? Does he Remain at City and Rake in the Millions? Will he take a Year's Sabbatical? Or Go On and become the Head Coach of An International Side, the Only Real Challenge he has left in his Football Career? Winning A Major Trophy As The Head Coach Of A National Side.

No Mate You're Not Wrong. As I've said before Guardiola has never had to Struggle at any Club he's been in Charge of, they have all been Mega Rich and Top Clubs with No or very Little Opposition, in their Respective Leagues. The Guy isn't fit to Shine the Shoes of Managers like Jimmy Sirrel, Brian Clough, Dave Basset who have Got Hold of Clubs and have worked hard and taken Unfancied Clubs and have taken them to Heights that their Owners could Only Dream Of. Cloughie did it with Both Derby and Forest, Jimmy Sirrel of course with the Mighty Magpies and Dave Basset with Wimbledon.

And it seems that Phil Parkinson is Now doing a Job at Wrexham. Admittedly he has the Money, but Nowhere near the Amount that Pep has been given at City or over his Career. Plus it was Rumored last Season that should Parkinson Fail to get Wrexham Promoted,Β  to League 1 he'd get the Sack. Something tells Me, Pep's never had to Face That Kind of Pressure.

In an Update it would seem Guardiola will be Staying the Etihad, and Raking In his Millions. But Once he's Retired how is he going to Look back on His Career, Yes he's Won Trophies, but has most Fans have said, he's bought His Glory, he's Never Truly Had To Work For It. As you have said Yourself any Coach Worth His Salt could achieve what Pep has done with all His Billions.

Want Respect from this Notts Fan Guardiola and Others ? Go and Coach a team currently in the National League, get them Promoted take them to the Premier and win a Trophy, then you can call yourself a Proper Coach. It will Never happen of Course and Pep will look back on his Career and tell people look how Good he was with all the Trophies he's Won and Yet Even He Deep Down will know his Career is A Falsehood.

I know it won't probably happen but if Man City are guilty of most charges they are accused of & Pep has already committed himself to the club.

What if the club get lots of points deducted or even get relegated out of the PL, will he stay with City getting a transfer ban & losing most of their team due to FFP rules?

That would be a big test I think.

Pep is the least of their worries. With the money and talent they have, they should be a stronger force in the Champions League.

It's not good for football when a manager seems bigger than the club. If he decides to leave, so be it. They should be more concerned about the serious charges they are facing.

After several Attempts to get in Touch with the PON Team only to be Told that they weren't able toΒ  My Receive My Message, I've decided to ask my Question in Granny Pies General DiscussionΒ  Section here on the PON Website. My Question is,

Why isn't there a Down Vote of Dislike Button on the PON Website? After All We're All Grown Ups and I'm sure a Down Vote or Dislike against on Your Comment on a Certain Debate, isn't the End Of The World. I'm sure Fans on here a Big Enough To Accept the Fact, that Other Members Don't Agree with them on All Subjects, the Nearest thing to a Down Vote is a Sad Emoji which Doesn't Really Cover Everything. There Must be a way a Member can Down Vote Something, But Not have their Name Attached, in case there's a Worry it make start an Argument between Members. Personally If I Don't Agree with What's Been Said by a Certain Member at the Moment I Simply Ignore that Comment and Don't Engage With Them. But I would like the Opportunity To Register My Disagreement. It certainly Wouldn't Bother Me, If Another Member Disagreed with Me, As I Feel It Would Make The Debate More Open.

Or is this Considered to Controversial ? Or Is it Simply Not The Done Thing? Or It's Been Tried Before and Stirred Up To Much Hassle Between Certain Members? I Would Genuinely LikeΒ  To Know. And Are There Any Other Members Who Would Like A Down Vote Button? Thanks.

  • If Somebody doesn't Agree or Like What I Say, Well That's Fare Enough. It certainly doesn't bother me whether they answer my Comment with a Like, a Heart, or any of the other Emoji's which are available, or don't pass Comment at All.

It would also seem that we may have drifted Slightly Off Topic Regarding a Down Vote Button, which is the Question I originally asked and Why there isn't one on PON? My Argument for one seems to haveΒ  moved the Debate in a Different Direction and by all sense and purpose PON Members Don't think there is a need for One. Which is Fair Enough and I accept the Majority Decision with Good Grace.

I agree with @RobbieΒ and @ChrisΒ here, a downvote button would be negative to the climate and vibe of the forum. I've seen it in Reddit too, it makes it much too easy to just downvote something you disagree with and move on. The way things are now, you can only show that you disagree with something by making a post and stating your view, and isn't that what a discussion forum is all about? :)

I want to hear different views (as long as they are stated respectfully of course). Unless they're disagreeing with me of course. In that case it's off to the dungeon!

I understand this is just an idea, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's good to share thoughts on topics that could help the site. I believe we should encourage healthy discussions, so I wouldn't support downvoting or disagree reactions. I would prefer to explain my reasons instead and not focus on reactions. I wouldn't want to discourage anyone or make them feel that their posts aren't valid.

This Annoys Me About Notts (I know it shouldn't but it Just Does) Why is it when the Magpies play away from home, and there's No Colour Clash (shirt wise as it was yesterday) why is it that NottsΒ  Don't play in their Traditional Black & White Stripes? After all they are the Colours Notts are known for, you'd think the Club would want to play in them, whenever they can.

And Yes I Know there are Different Sponsors on the Orange and Blue/Purple Shirts, but there must be away around this, even if the Away Kit just consisted of a simple White shirt with Black Shorts' it's Not The Stripes I know, but it's still the Clubs Black & White Colouring associated with the Magpies. It may Not Bother a lot of Fans but I'm of the Opinion that Notts should be waring the Traditional Colours Whenever They Can.

Notts County Women meet Leafield Athletic at Coronation Park Eastwood on Sunday 20th October at 2pm. Here's the gaffer with his pre match thoughts.

Some PON Members may remember back in September, that I shared exserts from My Family TreeΒ  thanks to a Genealogist , Doctor Tom Cobblers.

A Couple of days Ago Doctor Cobblers got back in touch and told me he'd found out, more information regarding my Ancestry, as it was last time

I had NothingΒ  to do with this Research, so as last time this Work Is All Cobblers.

Historians Among you may Remember that in Ancient GreeceΒ  the Greek's fought a Battle against the Invading Persians, at Marathon and were victorious, they sent a Messenger back to Athens some 26 miles away, to tell the People of the Greek Army's Victory. Apparently that Guy was an Ancestor of Mine. He ran the Full 26 miles in one go, (the Marathon Race is named after that feat), he ran into the City and Declared "We Won" where upon the Poor Guy Fell Down Dead. The Fact He Was Waring A Gorilla Suit, Didn't Help Matters.

Β A Great Uncle of Mine fought in the Boer War, at the turn of the 20th Century and was present at the Relief Of Ladysmith. In Fact She Was So Impressed With Him, She Invited Back The Following Night.

At the end of the 19th Century and the start of the 20th many children had to Forsake their education and go out and get a Job, to help out with putting food on the table and paying bills. My Grandfather (who was born in 1905) was one such Child at the Age of 10, he left School and Got His First Job. That being a Wringer Out for a One Armed Window Cleaner.

In 1979 Sir David AttenboroughΒ  Launched his Epic TV Series, Life On Earth. My Uncle Charlie was part of his Research Team and like other Team Members came up with little Known Facts Regarding the Natural World. Uncle Charlie's claim to Fame was the fact he found out, that Stick Insects Mate Very Very Slowly, In Case Of Fire.

So there you are fellow PON Members, should you wish to fined out more about your Ancestry Go For It. But it may be Better to Avoid Doctor Tom Cobblers.

What line-up should Stuart Maynard opt for? What will be the key areas for the Magpies to get a victory? What do you think the final score will be?

  • AFC Wimbledon came with a game plan, and I think Stuart Maynard expected them to play like that. He made some good tactical changes that helped us deal with them, but the game seemed like it was going to end in a draw. If anything, I felt relieved we didn’t concede. Defensively, we were solid, and Matty Platt was outstanding. Alex Bass played really well too.

i am pleased with the win because its a boost, it helps confidence and that alone can have a further impact on playing well. defensively i thought we were good, but needed a bit more creativity in attack. to grind out a win does seem very positive, despite wimbledon posing more of a threat. we showed our spiriting and fought for the win.

Apparently the Top of the FA's Wish List to become the Next England Manager was (Drum Roll) Surprise Surprise Pep Guardiola. Who was Sounded OutΒ  for the Post by the FA in the Off Season. Pep danced around the Media's Questions Regarding the Job so it would Appear the FA Couldn't Afford him.

So Tuchel who Stated he would leave Bayern Munich at the End of Last Season became the New Favourite. Because after he left the German side he was Linked to other Jobs such has Manchester United andΒ  Even a Return to Chelsea and practically Every Top Coaching Position which was available. None of Which Came About. So was Tuchel Already Lined Up to Lead the England Team after Gareth Southgate's Resignation?

Some Evidence that will Back that Up, is the Fact the FA Supposedly Interviewed at least 10 Coaches for the Role, but None of The English Coaches who were Ideal for the Job were approached or Spoken to about becoming the Next England Manager. Eddie Howe ( a lot of Fans Favourite) Sean Dyche Graham Potter, Frank Lampard, Gary O'Neil, Steve Cooper and Russell Martin None were Interviewed, so it would Seem Guardiola, Tuchel and Lee Carsley were the Three left on the FA's Short List. Then Both Guardiola and CarsleyΒ  fell by the Wayside which left Tuchel Has the Only Choice.

So That It Would Seem Is How A German, Became The Head Coach Of The Three Lions.

Let me say that now Tuchel has been appointed. I wish him well & if he can deliver a major international trophy, then that would be a positive development.

However, the whole point of having international tournaments is for a Country to win that tournament, with English players Managed by an English manager, or a Spanish team managed by a Spanish Manager.Β

What people are forgetting is that an international team is trying to demonstrate that at that particular time, they are the best football team in the World that have been coached by the best coach in the World. It's a team effort.

It would be a great showcase for an English coach, which would benefit all English coaches in the land if an English Coach won a World Cup.

People think it's more important that the team wins, but the Head Coach/Manager is part of the team. So if England win big under Tuchel, can we really say that the England team has won big?I 'm not so sure.

And to answer the question, I think it was a done deal.

  • the scenarios you could do with something like this, even if both contestants did not fight or foul each other. it could be very funny! the cross bar challenge is something, but its always pretty safe.

get the third choice keeper to be in the net after an obstacle course and allow fans to take a shot to win a grand prize.

I'd love us to do something like this!Β

I can remember watching a few games one season, not at Notts, but at half-time a few fans got a chance to win a car. Presumably a local car-dealership was sponsoring them.

Anyway this car would be backed into one corner of the stadium, in between the stands, and the boot would be opened. From the halfway line the fans then had to hit the ball into the boot of the car to win it! Unsurprisingly no-one won it!

Notts have made a good start & in their first 10 league matches they have won 5 & lost only 2.

Unfortunately, Notts have played 3 of the top teams but have lost two of them & drawn 1. That is just 1 point from those three matches. Four of their wins came against teams currently in the bottom 6.

Last season, Notts had a poor record against the top 7 sides only gaining 19 points from a possible 60.

This season Notts know that they will need to take more points from these top of the league tussles to either get into the playoffs or better still get automatic promotion.

Notts will be meeting Doncaster & Walsall soon who are in the top 7 presently, & Notts will be hoping for a positive result against those two.

Can Notts reverse this trend of poor results against the top teams in league 2? I think they can but they need to counter the way that teams are playing against them, especially at home, & Notts need to be more unpredictable in the way they play too.

  • I think we can, but we need to be mindful of injuries because this is the biggest thing which impacts our performances. I know some fans enjoy criticising Stuart Maynard again, but he's doing well. Yes, we are defensively stronger now, but I do think compared to last season, we are weaker in the striker department, mostly due to not replacing Macaulay Langstaff. Jatta will get goals, but we can't rely on him to involve himself as other strikers might. We have to present him with a good opportunity or hope it works out.

ideally notts will start to pick up results against the top 7, but i think its more an issue with inform teams. league two is proving to be very tight, afc wimbledon might show its more "form" that is the problem rather than the position. then again, it could reveal its the top 7 that we do have problems with. i think they are games where we at least want to be drawing, as this would help when the points turn into a much crucial resource.

I think that January is a big month in the season, where teams strengthen their squad & players leave.

I think that the January transfer window will be a big window for Notts.Β

We know that Notts certainly need a new specialist striker, & someone with pace on the wings.

Then there's Dan Crowley who has not yet extended his contract. Will Notts sell him in January before his contract ends?

If so Notts will need another attacking midfielder.
