  • I do feel like I'm in a minority but I genuinely feel Marias could do quite well for us if given the chance. He's pretty quick, he's pretty strong and he is capable of scoring and assisting goals too.

His first goal is a corker and the second is a tidy finish. I hope he does really well there and if he does we'd be stupid to not to give him a chance, surely!

He scores for teams in the National League but never gets a look in with Notts? Two managers, surely something else is off with him not getting a chance. I hope Woking signs him because we’re wasting his career.

So sorry to hear this news. 😢

A good win today against a Morecambe side that made it difficult for Notts, but two quality goals in the 2nd half gave Notts a deserved win.

This week the Poll will go back to a 24 hour duration so please get your vote in early.

There are 11 Notts players for you to choose from. I haven't included Jodi because he went off injured  after 20 odd minutes & I've included Will Jarvis  who replaced him & had a good game today.

So here are your Notts players included in the poll:-

Bass, McDonald, Platt, Bedeau Gordon, Palmer, Abbott, Jarvis Edwards, Whitaker, Jatta.

Such an iconic photo even after all these years. The look on his face & his celebration of pure joy, is just one of the reasons why I just love this game of Association football.

And the pure hatred of the Forest fan on the right. :joker:

Every club has parts of its history like this, a lot of Forest fans go on about us living in the past, but there's no reason why Notts fans wouldn't want to celebrate such a win. They would be doing it themselves if, on the other hand, the rivalry were friendly and not bitter, pathetic statements. For those who were in attendance, would have gotten one of the biggest highs from beating our neighbours.

Truth is, whilst they say it's embarrassing, or whatever. It's the reason some fans fall in love with football: a fundamental flaw in their reasoning.

That’s blooming rich coming from supporters who are always banging on about how they won 2 European Cups god knows how many years ago.

Whenever a reds fan mentions it to me I make out I didn’t know, “Really? When was that? I’ve never heard that mentioned before.”

  • great signing for barrow, i really hope it works out for kyle cameron. he played a bit part in getting us back to the football league and i am thankful for his part in that.

I like Kyle Cameron as a player and a person; I don't understand why there is a lot of hate toward him. Some of our fans have always been aggressive when there's zero need for it. I think Cameron has a difficult time with setbacks, and I do still wonder if part of this is due to mental health aspects. Torquay moved him into a centre-back position, and his natural position is the centre of midfield. I do think he can be a good defender, but he needs support and a strong manager to get the best out of him.

People have said he's not a good captain; I don't agree, but what I do think is that this role gives Cameron enjoyment.

It could very well be a mask, something he can focus on when he might not be performing as well as he likes. Still, he doesn't deserve abuse, and some of the stuff I have seen shows how toxic our own fanbase can be. The fan whom I witnessed abusing him while he was here, expresses this behaviour as if it gives him an edgy presence, but he's not remotely a good footballer himself. I don't think many actually like him, but he is just a goon and in no way a Notts fan.

I wish Kyle Cameron all the best; he always tried and gave us hope during our National League years.

Whilst he does make comical mistakes, we all do, and the issue is that most don't get publicly flogged for them. This furthers the pressure, so I really hope Cameron can find a good manager who can see how to get the best out of him.

  • To be honest Wrexham, Cardiff, Swansea & Newport should join the Welsh Premier League.

It would certainly benefit the other Welsh Clubs & those four clubs would have a much better chance of playing in Europe too.

Cardiff and Swansea can earn more money by staying in the EFL and/or Premier League.

Wrexham on the other hand, they are only growth due to the success their owners have brought within them due to the magic of Hollywood, and I am not having a good. Yet without them, they would be a strong candidate for switching to the Welsh league because it would be their only means of making a European competition even if it was just the qualification rounds.

Though, if this had been the case, it might limit their appeal and fan base. The Welsh league is hardly all that good.

Newport County is a strange one, as despite their anti-English chants - they to me feel far more English than the others.

For a team like Merthyr Town I think it makes a lot more sense.

I hope it turns out to be a good decision for them, as leaving the English Non-League might give another club the chance to dream of EFL football one day.

  • It would be a good move for the National League to become EFL league 3. If that were to happen, why not have four up and four down?

It would certainly increase interest in the lower tiers and give hope to all those clubs in the National League North & South.

the thing which league teams need to understand that relegation could be like many before, a way to allow them to get the club focused on doing the right things. you dont end up in relegation fights without reason. only smaller clubs would be concerned that it might not see them turn out this way, i think the majority would become instant big clubs tho.

It was mentioned last season that our record against the better teams in League 2, top 10/play-offs and automatics was pretty bad. And so far, this season we haven’t exactly been able to buck that trend.

Overall, right now – ‘cos the top 10 is very changeable at the moment – our record is: Played 10, Won 3, Drawn 2, Lost 5.

I guess more telling is that against the teams in the play-offs and automatics we’ve only won 1 match (1-0 against Wimbledon) the rest have been all be losses and a draw. From the teams in 11th and below, we’ve only lost 1 game though, winning 8 times and drawing 5.

So can we get promoted with such a poor record against the better teams or is it something we really need to try and improve? Maybe, just beating the poorer teams will be enough given how close the league is this season, but that doesn’t exactly bode well for life in League 1, where all the teams will be better…

  • The visit to Port Vale is going to be massive on the 13th February. If Notts can get a draw or even manage a fantastic win it would be a big confidence booster.

Taking points from our promotion rivals will be vital for the Notts promotion effort. Just taking a point would be big, & would deny our rivals to make headway against us.

I think the Port Vale game will give us a good indication as to where we are heading... If we are serious about top 3 we simply can't afford to give all our rivals 3 points against us.

From the current top 10, we've got 4 home games and 4 away games left. I think we'd need to be looking at something like 14 points to keep us where we are, anything close to that would be a very good return in my opinion. That would mean something like winning 4, drawing 2 and only losing 2. Possibly a big ask considering our current form against the top 10...

It would help massively if we can get a positive result at Port Vale.

I think this season has been incredible for how resilient Notts have been, and even though I thought Stuart Maynard was slipping, we have managed to forge a second and third place as our own. Performing against the top teams is just as difficult as navigating the trickier teams at the bottom of the league. Whilst it's great to see us winning, provided we are in the mix, I wouldn't dwell on who we have struggled against.

It's partly why I feel the automatic places are of great importance, as we could have good form but end up in the playoffs, and any team that finishes in them could win. It's not always down to deserving it, either.

Aspects like this are interesting to read and reflect on; the main thing is winning matches and just maintaining strong form.

Stuart is absolutely delighted to be keeping Alassana Jatta after all the speculation about offers from other clubs, & what turned out to be a firm offer from Plymouth for £750k, that Notts turned down during the January transfer window.

Stuart has also praised Jatta for his recent performances & him not taking his eye off the ball despite all the speculation.

Jatta has been influential in Notts's recent form which saw them climb back up the table & now hold one of the promotion places in third place.

Jatta has scored six goals & created two others during a run of seven wins in nine matches since mid-December.

Talking to the BBC Maynard told BBC Radio Nottingham. "We are delighted to keep him. It's really important for the football club, especially for the back-end of the season".

"The way AJ has performed this season has been incredible, & not just with the goal return, but his work ethic & everything he brings to the team."

It is clear that Jatta staying is going to be a big boost to the team & the fans. Whether Notts get promoted for not, Jatta's value will only increase & that's a big win win for Notts.

Notts County boss Stuart Maynard praises Alassana Jatta for not being...

It's amazing! I need to start off by acknowledging this, and she is clearly very talented as a designer.

I am a little of a stickler when it comes to cutting up shirts. If the shirts needed to be repurposed, so be it. For me, it's like defacing the Union Jack, etc. So many people would love to have those shirts without being turned into something else. I don't think it would be so bad, if people were asking her to do it. Yet it seems she obtains shirts and does them herself, in addition to requests.

There's a lot of disapproval for half-and-half shirts, which, despite being amazing on the one hand, just doesn't sit well with me on the other.

    Also, these look bad.

The numbers look a bit blurry to me.

From what I have seen the fronts look quite nice, but again, I don't think destroying shirts is a productive thing, especially when you don't support said club.

An enjoyable watch!!!!

Fact of the day:

Queen’s Park last defeated Rangers in a Scottish Cup tie in 1882, at that point the second round of the “Glasgow and Suburbs” section. Scotland’s oldest league club will take a place in the quarter-final draw for the first time since 1983.

This will amuse some of our older members.

Eating in the 50s
Pasta was not commonly eaten.
Curry was a surname.
A takeaway was a mathematical problem.
A pizza was associated with a leaning tower.
Crisps were plain; the only choice we had was whether to add salt or not.
Rice was only served as a milk pudding.
A raincoat was what we wore when it rained.
Brown bread was considerd food only for the poor.
Oil was for lubricating; fat was for cooking.
Tea was brewed in a teapot using tea leaves, and green tea was unheard of.
Sugar was highly regarded, considered "white gold," and cubed sugar was seen as luxurious.
Fish didn’t have fingers.
Eating raw fish was seen as poverty, not sushi.
None of us had ever heard of yogurt.
Healthy food consisted of anything edible.
People who didn’t peel potatoes were viewed as lazy.
Indian restaurants existed only in India.
Cooking outdoors was called camping.
Seaweed was not recognized as food.
"Kebab" wasn’t even a word, let alone a type of food.
Prunes were considered medicinal.
Surprisingly, muesli was available, but it was called cattle feed.
Water came straight from the tap; if someone had suggested bottling it and charging more than petrol, they would have been laughed at!
And the things we never, ever had on our table in the 50s and 60s: elbows or phones.

Also, I think just the way life used to be in the 1950s seems much better. Community spirit amongst neighbours, what seemed a much safer space for children. Plenty of family, and focus on that.

There were lots of things that were great in the 50s as you mention @Chris but there were also things that weren't so great, I know we all moan about the doctors and NHS these days but medical procedures have advanced so much since then, some of the methods used in those days would be considered barbaric now, people died of things that are curable now, children were treated very differently by teachers, nurses, doctors etc., they didn't have the compassion they have now.

Homosexuality was a crime people who chose to love one of their own sex were hounded and hid their sexuality for that reason, thank god that's now changed and anyone can be what they want to be.

Food was very basic and bland for the general population, working class people had to work very hard to maintain a decent standard of living. When I think of my life now and what it would have been like then as a pensioner I don't think I would want to go back to those times to be honest.

Oh, for sure, there are improvements, and I don't wish to overlook them.

My focus was more on the better aspects of the 1950s, as we could talk about how hard life was in the 1800s and how the 19th century was the real turning point for a better lifestyle. My points are more focused on the things we take for granted, something which I don't.

I can only speak from the 60's, food remained bland then, it was only til the dawning of the new supermarket age, Tescos, Sainsbury's, Fine Fare at Clifton that some resemblance of choice became available. Sterilised milk as we didnt have a fridge in Clifton, just a pantry. Plain yoghurts, not sure when in time the fruit yoghurts were introduced. Pikelets heated on the coal fire, shilling in the electricity meter...

Was there less anti social behaviour back then? I would pass along Queens Drive in the Corporation Bus from Clifton, and there was a zip wire with a tyre. Looked exciting but remember being told, under no circumstances to mix with the kids from that area. Perhaps would have been aged 7 or 8

The supporters club are selling the flag that gets surfed over the crowd in the kop, apparently it’s been damaged by a lighter so fire damaged, whoever buys it has to sign an agreement not to take it to any football ground.

Bids start at £100.

Do Notts have an emergency Striker to play upfront  just incase Jatta & McGoldrick get injured?

I'm not talking about a defender going up front if one of our strikers have to go off injured

When on the training ground, do Notts actually have players practicing the attacking role in line with the Notts style of play? If I was a reporter I'd ask that very question.

We've seen Robbie Cundy come on as a substitute & play upfront a couple of times but that appeared more ad hoc than anything.

So who would be able to fill the roll of an emergency Striker? I'd possibly go for Ness, Tsaroulla or Grant.

So who would you choose as your emergency Striker & should Notts plan for this on the training ground?

Where's James Sanderson nowadays?...scored on his debut last season....

Yes he did score on his debut, Notts youngest ever FA cup goalscorer...he'll be back in 6-8 weeks or so. Absolutely chomping at the bit to show his worth!

Thankfully, we shouldn't need to rely on a player to fill in as a striker, but as others before me, there will be options within the squad. If we are without an out-and-out striker, someone will surely step up. Could this be how Matty Platt gets his first goal for the club? Joking aside, someone more suited like Jodi Jones would do fine.

There are players who can go up top; Conor Grant, for example, has played as a striker. When Coventry City were in League Two, they had injuries up top, and Jodi Jones at times played as a striker. I believe he did so against us for this reason; virtually any attacking midfielder should be able to cover.

I recall the 1998 season when fans told me we put different players up top, especially a centre-back, and although I did attend games that season. I am too young to remember who, plus my memory is very foggy on who played as a striker. It's a good thing we have more depth now, though I wouldn't be against giving the position to someone to cover it if we needed to, as this is the best outcome.

Game 31 - The Shrimps (H)

Team: Morecambe

Where: Meadow Lane

What line-up should Stuart Maynard opt for? What will be the key areas for the Magpies to get a victory? What do you think the final score will be?

Have your say below, join in with the Pride of Nottingham match discussion.

Good morning it’s a bright start here in York but it’s forecast to rain later.

Yesterday we went to the Yorvik Centre to learn all about the Vikings, it was fascinating stuff, we boarded a “Time Machine” which was like a dodgem car and we were whisked back in time travelling through the streets of York as they would have been during the Viking times, there were moving mannequins depicting people going about there everyday business.

Today we’ll go to the castle museum to see more modern history.

Have a good day everyone.

Follows us on Insta as well

Didzy is in the running for the League Two Player of the Month. Good luck to David McGoldrick. No doubt we'll be in support of him earning it.

https://www.nottscountyfc.co.uk/news/2025/february/04/nomination--david-mcgoldrick/

Forward Emily Brett has rejoined Notts County Women from Sporting Khalsa.

She will strengthen the squad and give Adam Dunleavy more options upfront.

I wonder who fans feel deserves to be named the new vice-captain now that Dan Crowley has left for the gloriously woeful MK Franchise? I propose David McGoldrick. I think he has led us through his experience and been much more of an influential player this season compared to last. We had a spell during this campaign where he alone changed the outcome of certain games, such as Swindon Town away earlier in the first part of 2024-25.

What about you and why?

Is this a good move by Carlisle United?

  • i only know him as a former welsh international and he played for man utd, except he was a manager after but his success is before my time mostly. i dont know if hes a good or bad manager but going from the premier league to league two would suggest his career is on the decline. good luck to him at carlisle.

Last roll of the dice really, they need more than just the potential new manager bounce to stay up. Given how his time ended at Bradford, it doesn’t fill you with confidence either. I say last roll of the dice but I genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if Hughes got sacked before the end of the season!

Be interesting to see how this all plays out for Cedwyn too, I’m guessing a large part of why he joined Carlisle was not only to be closer to Newcastle but to play under Mike Williamson. No idea how Mark Hughes will play and if he see’s him in his first team, they have about 30 players so he’s not short on choice.

Those sort of days are long gone. Now we can look forward with optimism to much better days ahead

The Club has been rebuilt under the Reedtz brothers from top to bottom & we now have a team to be proud of.

The home game was very impressive. It was always going to be a tough challenge to ask the team to compete against Swansea City, who were then in the Premier League. The replay at their ground was a very harrowing experience, but fans still chanted, which showed the spirit.

before i started going to away games but i know notts fans tend to make a lot of noise even when we are being out played or losing. i do remember the home game and that they had sanches the hot portuguese player who looked pretty average.
