So John stead was the captain on Saturday was he the right choice to captain the magpies.?

Not "perfect" but he's ideal.

His experience and form as of late makes him the best choice out a slim pickings, there's nobody else other than David Vaughan who looks like a good enough candidate. Elliott Ward hasn't been at the club for five minutes and I could see him being replaced.

So this is why Jon Stead isn't the perfect choice but his experience and professionalism speaks volumes.

Hes better than Duffy so it at least would be an improvement and it would be a great change.

Jon Stead was a popular candidate in the discussions, however I recall the concern was about his forms and availability to start. With Kristian Dennis and Kane Hemmings you could see him getting a game, however he's responded like a true pro and pushed himself.

I have noticed people calling a cup merchant, he's not. He's a player who lifts his own performance when the 'big' and 'important' games come.

His form is a direct result to the club needing firstly a leader but also an experienced idea, I can't see him being replaced easily. I feel @samwatto2008 made some great comments about this exact topic in the recent PONcast (it's out now so go have a listen - cheeky plug right there! ;)).

Also, @Lozzle1 always seems to sum Jon Stead up.

We all want a player who's passionate, leads and cares. He does, so right now yeah, for me he's perfect for the role.

He's ideal for what the club needs which is an experienced head to lead the team out, not a bully who can't take criticism back.

I think he was better than what we have recently had.

I think there will be a noticeable improve from the change in club captain.

I feel right now he's the player who needs to lead the team out and although I hope Dennis replaces him in the near future, right now he's in form and has more passion than most of the players combined.

Jon Stead seems to have more fire and desire to make things right than Richard Duffy.

It seems Duffy has also now been replaced and has fallen down the pecking order, so this shows that Stead is in form and providing the club of something different. I hope he continues to lead the club.

People are quick today to credit the players that played the last game, the same players many called. I think the difference is down to Jon Stead and Harry Kewell combined. There's finally some passion being shown.

I am pleased with how Jon leads the team, he's like an older brother with the players and he uses his head which seems to pay off.

I like how he calmly speaks to the officials.

i think jon stead is the sensible appointment, you know what to expect and he does it well.

Yes. He's experienced, hugely respected and he leads by example - just what you want in a captain.

Echo what @DangerousSausage , he is a damn good pro respected , calmness personified and he grafts , best at the club for the armband in my opinion

Yes, i think so, with his experience.

He’s fast becoming a Notts County legend in my eyes, the blokes a true professional who always gives every ounce of effort and leads by example, yes a very good choice of captain.

He does it well, however I still feel the leadership on the pitch needs addressing but that could come with time. Right now Jon Stead is the ideal leader but my only concern his the fact he can't always play.

I hope the clubs signs a couple of suitable captains next season who can be the example and professional that Stead is.

He is a great choice of captain for me.
