Job you wanted as a kid vs what you do now

I thought this would make an interesting discussion for PON members, what job did you want to do as a kid? i.e what did you want to do when you grew up, compared to your actual job now.

As a child.. Fireman

Grown up. I work in banking [I am not a banker just to be clear].

I think most people think of doing the common jobs that stand out, the likes of a doctor, fireman, footballer etc.

If I disclude that, I think when I became 12 or 13 I thought about following a profession that involved cars. I toyed with the idea of motor sports, then more obvious routes such as a bus or taxi driver.

I ended up having a long career in trucking, but back in the UK I actually worked in an office for several years.

When people ask what 'American Pie' is about, they're missing the point. The song isn't about the lines themselves - it's about what is between the lines. The song is about what isn't there.

i never had plans i just liked playing when i was a child, work never hit me until my middle teens.

i work for a company which handles packaging and shipments, along with storage for stock which is moved between locations.

It took me awhile as a kid to get into football, but I lived and breathed it when I did.

I always felt obsessed with sport, I wanted to be good at everything I could physically do and without sounding cocky - I do believe I was good at sports. I loved Football, playing Cricket, Tennis, Badminton etc.

When I was like 6, the only thing I wanted to do was play football.

Due to my school closing its doors to failing, I was put on a scheme whereby I trained from 15. I went to work with the council, first installing windows and doors. Then after turning 16 I spent time making them. At 16, I also moved into catering which I spent several years. I last worked in a care home, the most rewarding position I have had because I genuinely felt I made a significant impact on the residents lives.

From 8/9 I wanted to work in football, not as a player, coach or manager. I wanted to work as a pundit or commentator, as I got older I felt more attracted to the media.

Right now, I am at Uni but I work for a major magazine in the UK based in Sheffield.

As a child I always wanted to be a photographer but now I'm a sandwich artist at subway.

I do try my best to take photos when I am out, but it's only on my phone, no special equipment for me.

I really don't know what i wanted to do as a job when i was a kid... I know when i was around 13/14 i wanted to be a nursery worker. After not managing to fully complete my  college courses due to having my stillborn and trying to get my life back on track i now volunteer in my youngest daughters school and in nursery, reception and yr2 age ranges which i really enjoy.

@meg_walshx Keep at it, I loved taking pictures with my old Nokia N8.

Smartphones have advanced so much now, that you can get creative and with the use of an editor you can bring pictures out further. You don't need fancy equipment, start as you're doing and work your way up. Consider a good bridge camera down the line if you wish to proceed, or buy a second hand DLSR (just do a lot of home work on pricing) as there's some deals to be had at times.

As a kid I had no work plans, I just wanted to not go to school and would rather go fishing instead. Now ironically, I'm an IT engineer for schools so always in them!

I had no plans, I just enjoyed making a mess and playing with toys.

I work at a local supermarket, it's not glamorous but it pays.

Oh oh oh ohhhhh, everywhere where we go, watching super County putting on a show!
