Notts County manager Luke Williams recently spoke about player injuries and pre-season training. He discussed the minor issues that some players had with tightness and how they were removed from training and the friendly match to avoid making their injuries worse. The club is preparing for the start of the new season by avoiding unnecessary complications and injuries. Williams said that these minor issues are to be expected given the amount of workload at this time of year and that they are not too big of an issue with three friendlies still left to get in before the season starts. He also mentioned that Aden Baldwin is recovering well from his injury but will need a bit longer, while Junior Morias is in a similar situation. Both players have completed the beginning of their rehabilitation inside the gym and on the treatment bed and are now spending more time on the grass. Pre-season training was also discussed by Williams, who explained that it is focused on conditioning and getting the players to the correct level of fitness to sustain them over a long season. He mentioned that this is the time of year when they get their base fitness and that they also work on their understanding of tactical stuff. The training session on the morning of the game, although not ridiculously hard, still took some energy out of the players’ legs, and they came into the game a bit fatigued from the week and from the morning session, according to Williams. In an interview with Nick Richardson of the Notts County media team, Notts County manager Luke Williams discussed player injuries and pre-season training. Williams mentioned that some players, such as Tobi and Connell, had minor issues with tightness and were removed from training and the friendly match to avoid making their injuries worse. "When he [Tobi Adebayo-Rowling] felt some tightness, we said it's not worth risking him to make it a worse injury," Williams said. "So it's a very minor thing, and we expect him to be on the grass again on Friday." He also mentioned that Aaron Nemane had a similar issue with tightness from repeating the amount of times he hits the ball in training. "He [Aaron Nemane] felt a tightness," Williams said. "But it's something that we know well with Aaron. We know how his body is and as soon as he feels the beginning of something, we remove him from training and from the friendly." Williams said that these minor issues are to be expected given the amount of workload at this time of year and that they are not too big of an issue with three friendlies still left to get in before the season starts. "When guys are picking up some fatigue, really, if we didn't push them really hard this time of year, we're doing something wrong," Williams said. "So we have no problem with these minor things, and we withdraw the players at the right time." He also mentioned that Aden Baldwin is recovering well from his injury but will need a bit longer, while Junior Morias is in a similar situation. Both players have completed the beginning of their rehabilitation inside the gym and on the treatment bed and are now spending more time on the grass. "Aden [Baldwin] is recovering really well from his injury, but he's going to need a bit longer," Williams said. "And he's on track and everything is going according to plan. So he's now on the grass running on the training pitch." Williams also discussed pre-season training, explaining that it is focused on conditioning and getting the players to the correct level of fitness to sustain them over a long season. He mentioned that this is the time of year when they get their base fitness and that they also work on their understanding of tactical stuff. "This time of year is really very much about conditioning, getting the guys to the correct level of condition that they need to sustain them over a long season," Williams said. "And this is where you know we get our base from." Williams acknowledged that the training session on the morning of the game, although not ridiculously hard, still took some energy out of the players' legs and that they came into the game a bit fatigued from the week and from the morning session. However, he said that this was done deliberately to get them into the right place for the league. "Ordinarily, of course, the players would be fresh going into a game, but this time of year we're topping up their conditioning and also topping up their understanding of tactical stuff," Williams said. "So we trained this morning not ridiculously hard but of course it still took it out of their legs. And then they come here a bit fatigued from the week and a bit fatigued from this morning." Confidence in his team’s ability to handle minor injuries and fatigue during pre-season training is expressed by Williams. He believes that pushing his players hard at this time of year is necessary to get them into top condition for the upcoming season. With three friendlies still left before the season starts, there is plenty of time for Williams to continue working on his team’s fitness and tactical understanding. its pre season, if we have players struggling or picking up slight concerns, then luke williams is doing right by pulling them. i am not over concerned about is because i have faith in the coaching team to make the correct decision. its just useful to know where each players at. its also good to know more about junior morias.19 points
-
I appreciate that the club and Luke Williams are addressing this issue head-on, as it instils confidence in their abilities. Some managers prefer to avoid discussing ongoing concerns to prevent panic or negative feedback, but I believe this only generates more concern. For example, with Junior Morias, when we don’t know what’s happening, it’s easy to forget about him and assume he’s been forgotten. However, it may just be a minor issue preventing him from starting pre-season. Addressing issues directly is wise, although the longer Morias struggles, the more I question his acquisition. Nonetheless, I have faith that he will eventually come good.17 points

It is good man management to take players out of training and playing in a pre-season friendly. They will catch up, and it is more important to avoid serious or nagging injuries that persist. Luke Williams addressed these concerns while looking out for the players themselves, saying that we are preparing very nicely. There are still three games for players to catch up, and even with the start of the season looming, they will easily get up to speed.16 points

Concise yet deep insight into what's going on with the players currently. The transparency Williams provides, especially regarding player injuries, is commendable. The minor injuries don’t seem to be a cause for alarm since they’re part and parcel of pre-season training. I appreciate the careful management of player welfare shown here, there's a long season ahead and it's important that everyone’s up for it.15 points
-
I am glad that Luke Williams is strategically pulling out players who are showing signs of strain. It's early days, so best not to risk exacerbating any injuries. Better to miss a few friendly matches than miss pivotal league games.12 points
-
Pleased to see that Williams is maintaining professionalism and prioritising player welfare. His approach towards the whole injury situation instils confidence in the coaching and medical staff.11 points
-
Thanks for the update, it’s great to see the manager being so upfront about player injuries. Good to hear that Morias and Baldwin are on track with their recovery.10 points
-
It's very reassuring to hear about the ongoing process in such detail. Preseason training is a nerve-wracking time for both the players and fans, with nagging injuries and worries about fitness levels. Luke Williams’ in-depth description gives me confidence that our players are in good hands. The delicacy with which minor injuries are being handled shows that the welfare of the players is of uppermost importance and no unnecessary risks are being taken.8 points

It feels unreal to see Notts in this position. I never thought the club would be using pre-season to build players and have this sort of recruitment. I didn't think we would have all these coaches and a squad pulling together. To be in a position where we have just returned to the Football League and with further hard work, Notts could be in with the chance of another promotion. It just feels very special. I appreciate our owners so much and Luke Williams.7 points

It sounds like the usual minor injuries and fatigue that come with preseason training. Can't wait to see the team in action once the season starts.5 points

Williams clearly knows his team well. The mention of Aaron Nemane’s tightness issue, for instance, suggests the management is very attuned to each player’s physical condition. I applaud Williams for not pushing the players too hard, which can often be counterproductive. Also, his emphasis on the right level of conditioning and tactical understanding shows the right priorities are in place as we head into the new season.4 points
-
There’s a fresh candour in Luke Williams’ comments, which is quite heartening. It lays bare the challenges of pre-season training and highlights the vital role of a prudent manager in delivering a fit and competitive squad for the season. I only wish speedy recovery for Aidan Baldwin and Junior Morias. Managing their progress during this crucial period will be decisive in ensuring they contribute their best during our competitive games.4 points

On Saturday 22nd July Notts County travel to Boston to take on the Pilgrims. How many players, managers it coaches etc., can we name that are linked to both clubs? I’ll start off with two former Notts players who became managers with Boston. Arthur Mann managed Boston between 1984-1986 and he was succeeded by another former Notts player RayO’Brien who managed them between 1986-1987.3 points

Welcome to @BeestonPiemay you enjoy the good positive vibe on this wonderful platform.3 points

One or two may have a bright future for Notts; we will have to see how they all do. I like what I have seen of Cisse; he looks like a good player and will hopefully come through to the first team given the chance.3 points

The player I am going to mention was one of my favourites from the Munto era, Ben Davies.3 points

Mick Vinter started his career at Boston United before signing for Notts as a youngster. I think that’s a good start to this.3 points

its a bit hard to celebrate if notts dont start to give them time in the league or cup, the odd cup game does not do a lot but maybe not this season but the next, the better players need to be hitting at least 10-15 appearances. i am happy for them but i worry that we will just waste the process, i really hope and want this to change.3 points

It’s always a big moment when young players sign their first major contract with a club like Notts. It marks the beginning of an exciting journey, full of potential and promise. I wish these young players all the best as they embark on this new chapter in their careers. May they continue to work hard, develop their skills, and achieve great success with Notts County.3 points
-
It’s very positive news that there are a good number of prospects, and I wish each of them well. Like others, I have hopes for a few of the names I have seen pre-season. Hopefully, we can get them close enough to be squad members and see what happens from there.3 points
-
This is fantastic news, a positive sign, and hopefully, in a few years, some of them will be making our squad. It’s a good point for them to come into the team; we just need to get them experience and push them.3 points
-
It’s good to have all the scholars signed up. I noticed yesterday that the club’s U19s link had gone down, and this makes sense. It’s good to see so many prospects sign, but it’s not enough to stop here. The club needs to encourage first-team professionals to help bring the youngsters through. Find a mentor for Cisse, as he’s class; Aaron Nemane would be a suitable fit.3 points

The focus on player fitness and conditioning is paramount in football these days. Williams setting the right tempo with a firm handle on the practice sessions will definitely be beneficial for the Notts County in the long run.2 points
-
Apparently he played well last night and Tom Williams has done a thread on Twitter about him. Looks to potentially be a very promising young player and could be the ideal candidate for the RCB role we need. He looks quick, decent passing range and can head the ball, will make the odd mistake, but young players do so could be worth the gamble.2 points
-
i think he means just better quality of footballers than iq because there are some smart players who are rubbish and some that are thick who are exceptional. i think the benefits of league two is the increase in automatic promotion places and of course hopefully starting good winning streaks. this is another good interview by david jackson.2 points

It’s sad to see Charlie Slater leave his Notts commentary position with BBC Radio Nottingham, but it’s exciting to see a new era. Provided we still have Mark Stallard, then that’s the main thing. Good luck, Charlie, and thank you.2 points
-
Fingers crossed I can get to this game, I wasn't feeling well yesterday, but Telford always looked unlikely in truth. I am seeing comments that we had another trialist, I hope we can see more of Nathan Claxton because he looked solid. It does seem as if the squad is starting to settle down, so I will leave the tactics and squad line-up to Luke Williams - whatever he chooses will be a good start I am sure. I have enjoyed the pre-season so far; the squad looks fit and ready to go. It will be good to see how we do against some former Notts players!2 points
-
My wife said Charlie and Stall should have their own show, she really enjoyed listening to them and she’s not really bothered about football.2 points
-
I won't have a problem with Bracegirdle taking over. I enjoy his cricket ball-by-balls. A very different style, but no less passionate.2 points
-
Charlie Slater decision to move away from Notts' commentary is truly heart-wrenching, but my best wishes go out to him.2 points
-
I don't know why, but I assumed they were already under contract, but I assume it means they have come out of the youth team now. Why isn't Riley Reynolds mentioned? I thought he did well against Nuneaton Borough. I hope this doesn't mean we didn't offer him a deal; someone more familiar with the youth team will have to clarify things for me. He might still be a youth player, but from what I have seen. Madou/Cassius Cisse, Charlie Gill and Riley Reynolds looked very good. Oh, and the McGreagor I think that's how you spell his name looked good. Wasn't his name Brad McGregor?2 points
-
Great news to see the youngsters sign up! Does the scholarship mean that Notts gets aid with paying their wages, or is this just the term for players who aren’t quite first-year pros? I find the changes in wording difficult to keep up with. It’s great news though!2 points
-
Well done, don’t let the minority of fans put you off because more will encourage and watch out for you than those who don’t understand what it means to be in your boots playing. I wish each of you all the very best and if one or two of you can establish yourselves in Notts in time, get ready to be adored and worshipped because we are a tight-knit lot.2 points
-
I would imagine Dave Bracegirdle will take over as he’s done it when Charlie couldn’t. He’s ok but not a patch on Charlie, I’ll miss the banter between Charlie and Stall.2 points
-
Charlie’s commentary of Notts County games has shown his deep understanding of football and connection with the club. He succeeded Colin Slater and has a strong bond with the fans.2 points
-
Best of luck to Southend. It would be a football crime to see them join Bury. I hope they survive the next time they appear in court and that there is some good news for their fans.2 points
-
Callum McGregor is a great player, when he retires he should be amongst their legends. He's helped them in Europe and even assisted the Scottish national team with their improvements on the field. He was great for Notts!2 points
-
I don't think it was necessary the drinks selection that was the main issue. In the Kop, the issue is mainly the waiting time. You have to leave by 35 minutes and drink very quickly to have any chance of seeing the start of the second half. A secondary issue is the fact that the beer they serve you is piss-warm.2 points
-
This isn’t really newsworthy, as it doesn’t mention any changes or anything of interest to us. It’s just a press release promoting the partnership, and since I don’t drink at the ground, it doesn’t appeal to me for that reason either.2 points
-
Certainly, his great contributions to Notts County will be missed. Yet, let's not discount the exciting potential that this new chapter with Portsmouth could hold for Doyle. Personally, I'm excited to see how his journey unfolds, especially in his new mentoring role.2 points
-
I echo the sentiments pointing out Doyle's potential effectiveness as a mentor to young talent. This new role could indeed be an exciting chapter in his career. There are some valid concerns and doubts expressed by others, which is a natural part of any transition. Let's not forget the experience, knowledge, and sheer determination that Doyle brings to the table for Portsmouth.2 points
-
Good luck to Michael Doyle; an experienced mind such as his will be invaluable to Portsmouth’s youth system.2 points
-
Good luck to Michael Doyle. I think he will do well working with younger players. It’s a role I wish Notts would talk Jim O’Brien into, although he’s already doing it with Sheffield United. If we could get him and maybe David McGoldrick to help out, we might start seeing some youngsters mentally ready for first-team football. I think the club should explore this. Michael Doyle should be perfect in his role with Portsmouth.2 points
