  1. This past month we asked several team and general members to add nominations for our motm.

After collecting opinions and the nominations, we open the floor to voting which 16 members joined in and cast their votes. We're at the stage where we name the members who are runners up, plus the overall winner. Thank you to the community members who took the time to vote and add their nominations.

61 posts have been by the winner, he joined us on November the 10th and claims the Member of the Month award for his first actual month on PoN. @Northants Pie will hold back the press!

Please take time to congratulate @DangerousSausage

Well Done buddy! You will have to take the floor at some point after preparing your speech! ;) Richly deserved.

Silver/2nd place goes to @super_ram who's been around ever since the dinosaurs - Well Done!

Bronze/3rd place goes to @Northants Pie - Well Done NP! Your youth team reports and posts are greatly appreciated.

Well Done to all the members who was nominated and to all those who have joined in, don't forget it's taking part that counts. Each and every visit makes a difference, as does your contributions. This upcoming month should be more trickier to name, so I hope you folks will make it even harder by continuing as you have been.

    YOU PIES!!

  2. The Saxophonist Bobby Keys who toured with the Rolling Stones for over 40 years has died at the age of 70, I am very very sad to hear this, I'm a big Stones fan and have been to 3 live shows in which Bobby has features, he was truly a great talent.

Here he is at his best.

  3. Well done to @PTID1862 for getting to 1000 posts. Well done me old mucker!

  4. Just got back from this and it was a very good night. I arrived outside and phoned @notts-joe as arranged because he had my ticket. The phone went to answer machine so I stepped inside the door and was spotted by Joe thankfully so I got in ok.

Joe had saved a table right at the front near the bar and stage and we went and sat down with @super_ram who was already on his sixth pint (only joking @GrannyPie go easy on him )

It was great to see them both and have a chat before the speakers started. They were Paul Hart, Les Bradd, Dean Yates, Mike Edwards and Greg Abbott, they all gave an interesting talk about their footballing careers but the star of the show was Greg Abbott who gave an off the cuff talk more akin to a stand up comedian, he was very funny and had the audience laughing including the time when a Carlisle fan threatened to torch his house with his wife and kids in and said he hoped they died, Greg even managed to make this very serious subject funny. If ever he loses his job in football he ought to consider a career in comedy.

There was a raffle which none of us three amigos won but you can't have everything. Joe was darting about here there and everywhere with his media duties taking photos, videos etc

All in all it was a great night and I hope successful evening for the Academy. I'm sure @notts-joe and @Super _Ram can fill in any details I have missed. Thanks to all concerned.

  5. Having beaten the league leaders Hull City 2-0 on Saturday, Notts youth team defeated mid-table Grimsby by the same scoreline this afternoon at Arnold and moved up to second place in the league table – just three points behind the leaders.

Notts were ahead after only three minutes when a cross from Colby Bishop was fired home by Rico Fyfe.  Notts doubled their lead on seven minutes when a Grimsby defender handled the ball in the penalty area and Colby Bishop coolly slotted home the penalty.

The rest of the game saw Notts in control and trying to extend their lead with only the occasional attack by Grimsby.

A very good performance by the young ‘Pies whose upturn in both performances and results could be linked to the arrival of Paul Hart – or it could be just a coincidence.

  6. Is anyone else following some of the vines on this Chap.

Cracks me up everytime. This Compilation is one of the best

  7. What a brilliant execution of a very difficult piece of skill, the lack of distance to get this right is what makes this especially good for me

  8. So, onwards and upwards once more.  Donny Rovers next up in the Sherpa Freight Van Trophy (old money), a team in this division who embody and define "yo-yo" along with Peterborough United.  Could be a win, draw or defeat - complete unknown at the moment, so for the next week lets put the game to on side and think on the players / staff who have represented both clubs.

    My opening trio are;

Paul Barnes, Paul Heffernan, and a real wildcard, Gavin Worboys.  I distinctly remember Warnock paying £100k for him - and never even gave him his debut!

  9. Brilliant to see the fans putting together an event like this, it will really be a good night. I have my ticket and at £3 it's a bargain! Plus a chip butty.. haha!

  10. Okay, so @grannypies phone's been playing up, it's at the stage she isn't really using it much.

Myself and @cheeky~k8 have a chat, we both agree that buying her a new one for her birthday/Christmas present would be a nice idea. Since both myself and Cheeky regularly chat to her within the day, we felt a new handset would allow us to do this better whilst being easier for granny.

    BIG MISTAKE.

The phone arrived the other day, being technically minded I decided to remove all the unwanted apps from the device. However, once the phone restarted they reappeared! Now this annoyed me!!

I decided to look up, a suggestion for the handset was perform a factory reset.

    DEAR GOD NO!!!!

Something so ***dy straight forward, just a simple factory reset and the phone goes pear shaped!!

I tell myself it's not that bad, I can fix it. I'm also the sort of person who doesn't quit, so I know after some time I will have succeeded. TODAY IS THAT DAY!!

The past x days I tried various ways to fix the system and the IMEI of the handset which had become corrupted, yet finally it's all over.

Literally I've tried various flashing methods, apps, PC programs, restoring. My laptops full of these things now! Haha! Though all this was worth it, especially when I hand over the phone knowing Granny will not have any problems. A word to warn people, don't factory reset smartphones without backing up the handset before hand! (even though I did) make sure that the phone doesn't corrupt them.

So, what are you getting your loved one for Christmas? A new mobile? ;)

  11. Anyone hunting for any bargain deals tomorrow on Black Friday?

Let us know what you plump for and how much cash the retailer alleges  you may have saved!

I'm going to order a Kindle HDX for the wife for Xmas. At £100 notes you can't go wrong as it is such a big difference to the kindle e-reader she has always had. Half price is worth it me thinks!

  12. Welcome to Pride of Nottingham, @mexicanpie.

  13. Just noticed this in the red rag and with us all getting in the Christmas spirit, I thought we should start a collection for @PTID1862

I'll start off by chucking in £1.

    Any more offers?

  14. A nice piece on the Notts County website about Zeli Ismail, he has a lot of good things to say about the club, management and supporters.

Best of luck to him as he recovers from his injury and maybe we will see him down the Lane in the future, who knows.

  17. Important game! One which if we don't get anything from it could start to be where comments creep in and it won't help the tough run of fixtures coming up. We have to be realistic here, there's no reason why we couldn't win but a draw would be good. I know we have to hope for a win, as this will keep us up but personally I'd like us to avoid dropping down the league.

I know some fans expect this to be the case, I think we might but I also remember last year how we achieved the great escape by believing.

Sheffield United are picking up, though some of their fans aren't happy and there is still an opportunity for us to cause an upset.

Let's forget about Accrington and Yeovil, let's think about games like Barnsley or Coventry and just hope for the best.

I see this being 1-1, hopefully no red cards! Roy Carrol needs to avoid yellow.

    COME ON YOU PIES!

  18. Leigh Curtis column: Notts County striker Danny Haynes should drop down a level or two to regain confidence.

    8257084-large.jpg

After holding “honest discussions” with Danny Haynes in the summer, everybody hoped Shaun Derry’s pep-talk would help the striker deliver on his undoubted talent at Notts County.

But five months on, he has made just two appearances and has just returned from a loan spell at Crewe which was pretty unproductive.

A flick through some Twitter comments from Crewe fans were hardly complimentary about his contribution and Derry’s message as the striker headed back was “he has to knuckle down again”.

There is certainly no issue with the player’s work in training, but clearly there is a problem with confidence.

    Full Article | Here

I disagree, I think he'll naturally either end up with a struggling League One team as a asset or he'll end up as a fringe player. I do think League Two is calling, however will Danny accept anything lower than his asking price? I can't see a League Two team being able to afford him.

I genuinely don't believe confidence is the issue.

At least not completely, I think a succession of injuries and poor moves which haven't worked out are catching up. The fact we know he's a good player sort of suggests it's not his confidence, it highlights that he's past his peak and will find his correct level which for me is this division. I don't think Haynes will score more than 10 goals for any side, I'm not trying to put him down or to be negative. I just honestly feel he's fading.

17 goals in 115 games isn't enough to forge a reputation.

8 goals from 51 is poor.

As is 9 in 34 games (at least for a striker considered to be a goalscorer/Championship player).

Midfield or not, the vast majority are as a striker. He's done well to attract higher interest, as his overall record suggests he's been punching above his natural place.

271 games played and 46 goals.

Confidence? I'd try accepting things for how they are.

    Thoughts?

  19. Utterly appalling tragedy. For him, his family, his teammates and the bowler.

  20. Boy oh boy would I love to be in this car with him

Pity they don't teach this on an advanced driving lesson.....

  21. Gary Johnson: Yeovil Town's Nathan Smith has bruises to prove Notts County challenge.

    8324626-large.jpg

Yeovil Town’s Nathan Smith has the bruises to prove he had been hurt by a hefty challenge at Notts County, according to manager Gary Johnson.

The athletic full back was felled in the first half by Magpie Gary Jones, referee Stuart Attwell harshly deeming the challenge to be worthy of a straight red card.

Although the official acted before Smith had received lengthy treatment, he was subsequently booed whenever he touched the ball thereafter, with the away dugout also receiving a rough ride from a boisterous crowd.

Smith has since been subjected vile abuse on Twitter with individuals labelling him a “cheat” and a “disgrace”, with some even hoping he receives a career-ending injury. His Wikipedia entry has even been altered to document his role in proceedings.

Jones’s red card has since been rescinded on appeal and Johnson said his Jamaican left-footer had the character to weather the backlash.

“Everybody that understands football that saw it realises that if you look at the pictures of our technical area, none of us threw our hands up in the air or got involved,” said Johnson.

“Smithy was obviously hurt. Judging by the mark on his leg, he was obviously hurt, but none of us were brandishing imaginary red cards.

“If a player’s hurt, he’s hurt and it’s up to the referee to do what he wants to do. He (Smith) wasn’t trying to con the referee by any stretch of the imagination.

“If the crowd decide to take it out on the player, he’s got to be doubly professional and to be honest he was. He didn’t make any comment or say anything back, he just got on with the game.

“It was important that he and the team stood up and played cleverly – one mistimed tackle could have been disastrous.”

Johnson continued: “When people are disappointed after losing a game that they were hoping to win, little things always come up through their disappointment.

“I felt that we deserved to win the game with the way we played, whereas their manager felt that they deserved to win despite going down to ten men - differing opinions. We have had a good look at the review and the DVD and we’re very happy with our performance.”

I find this quite funny, it's like someone telling a teacher after being caught bullying that they was self defending themselves to avoid being told off, despite the teacher having seen and witnessed it.

The bruises could have been caused by him flopping to the ground or rolling around. LOL

    Thought?

  22. "Is this the real life, is this just fantasy" starts some Queen Song.

Following Saturday, it is a question I too pose of Notts County 14/15 thus far.  Patchy start, Long unbeaten run followed by another patchy run.

Which is true and which is temporary?  What can we hang our season on, and what is blips / peaks?

So, onto Brammall Lane on Friday night, and a club surprisingly still plying its trade in these "depths" last coing so near a couple of years ago.  The day we won at Wycombe, Stevenage drew with Sheff U.  A result that proved to be costly for both us and the blades; we missed out on GD to the 'newtown lot' in that years playoffs; and Sheff U were left to rue dropped points as they missed out on the autos - their City rivals Wednesday.  Anyhow.

Links - plenty here of both managerial and playing variety; I'll try to go with a couple of slightly offbeat examples, and here's to this being the largest MAGnet thread thus far....

Paul Rodgers (brought in to replace Peter Butler!) and Tony Battersby ("the new Alan Shearer").

  23. No, No, not us...

    I wonder......

I hope they have still got Mr Big under lock and key.
