  1. I must admit when i heard that Roy Carroll had signed for Notts County i was shocked and surprised. After seeing him in action for his former teams and the fact he couldn't control his demons i was not happy. Being a big Bart fan myself you could say it was sour grapes. But after all highlights and  games I've watched and what i heard at the weekend 2 games in 24/48 hours Im slowing changing my mind. I will admit i was wrong and would like to see Roy Carroll stay next season.

    Which means that he could well haunt us on the 28th December when we play them at their place.....

  8. One well-known theory as to why the human race has not been visited - at least knowingly - by advanced civilisations from other plants is that, as a a race, we are not yet worth visiting. We have not yet evolved, the theory goes, to sufficient intelligence for it to be worth their while.

    A trip to Meadow Lane makes this view hard to contend with. Any alien for whom the first glance at the human race was down at Meadow Lane would draw the following conclusions about earth:

    - that the laws of physics regarding light are different here: fans 50-100 meters away from an incident are exempt from the law that results in physical objects appearing smaller the further away they are; given this, they know instantly the truth about an incident on the pitch, whereas the referee, the expert in this sort of thing, and who is standing perhaps just five meters away, IS and ALWAYS IS wrong.

    - that there is some odd physical law which says that if a player of a certain shirt colour appears to be hurt, he is definitely faking it. However, if a person of the other shirt colour appears to be hurt, he is definitely not faking it. Again, the fans who instantly and vociferously adjudicate on such incidents, are always correct.

    - continuing this point, that it is reprehensible and evil to feign injury in the case of the opposition, yet curiously acceptable in the case of the home team when you are clinging on to a 1-0 lead in the 85th minute away from home. Our alien, assuming the human race to be capable of fairness and objectivity, might wonder why, when our team do it, we don't equally shout at them for it.

    - that predictions about the earth's eventual demise - destroyed by its own inhabitents - are pretty much on the money, if perceived intelligence of its dominant species is anything to go on. One example might be fathers and grandfathers sitting next to sons and grandsons, happily giving "wanker" hand gestures to visiting players and fans, calling the referee expletives. Our alien might be surprised that this is the example we set to our younger members.

    - that "we always get **** refs." After some cursory research as to what this phrase means, our alien might think that this assertion contravenes the laws of logic. If the referee is different every week, and yet the crowd make this comlaint every week, the only constant is the crowd - and their subjective, irrational conclusions - rather than the referee. If our alien is away of the concept of irony, he might consider this ironic.

    And so on and so on. The fact is, we played attrociously today. We insist on lofting the ball even though it almost always results in giving away possession. Meanwhile, our opponents play and pass their way out of their zone, with balls to the feet. We barely gave their keeper anything to think about, and we were undisciplined.

    We got what we deserved. We couldn't string passes together; loose balls were meekly given back to Yeovil or hit out of play. It was like watching a Sunday league team at times.

    Shaun Derry said recently he thought we were overachieving. And a good thing to, because we definitely are; on the form of three of our last four games, we are in a very inflated league position.

  9. As a Notts county fan I'm getting used to things not quiet be right for us but this season i have a funny feeling we will go up.

    After last season great escape and an entire team over haul i can see we are slowly turning in to a team that could cause some other teams a upset. Just think the legendary pies in the championship facing Derby if they don't go up the team from the other side of the trent forest maybe even the foxes and every Notts county goal keeper kasper.

  10. Would you be an extra in a film? The catch being you had to pay for it.

    There is to be a sequel to Mike Basset England Manager, but they seek fans donations to fund it.

    Various levels of finding are available - http://talksport.com/football/mike-bassett-interim-manager-trailer-england-boss-back-141110123769

    Would you/wouldn't you, and is this something you think we will see more of?

  11. In all Seriousness Notts were never going to win the FA cup. So we have to believe that we are better off out of it. 30 league games left is plenty of competitive football and the fact that there are no other distractions could prove to be a godsend. After the Manchester City millionaires knocked us out a couple of seasons ago our form slipped alarmingly. Give it everything we've got in the league and we might be pushing for outright promotion, never mind the play-offs. Before this season I would have been happy with a mid table finish but I seriously believe that there is a togetherness at Notts, the likes of which has been missing for a few seasons now.

  12. I've tried to achieve something different, anything can be changed.

    What do you think @magpiejue

    Does Jimmy get the nod?

  13. I would love to see Shaun Derry play for Notts County he has had a great career.  I will say i would only like to see him play part time though as we need his prescence on the touch line. He is a great manager and has brought us on leaps and bounds.

  14. In another post @notts-joe was having a bit of friendly banter with @GrannyPie and I said to be careful he could get a clip round the tab. This amused @weymouthPIE who said if he said that down south they wouldn't know what he meant.

    This got me trying to think of other words that are local to this area and people in other parts of the country would have difficulty understanding. Here are a few I thought of:

    Cob = Bread roll

    Causey = Pavement

    Twitchell or Jitty = Narrow alleyway

    Badly = Ill (as in I feel badly today so I'm not going to work)

    Mardy = Grumpy or sulky

    Rammell = Rubbish

    I'm sure there are lots more, anyone else think of any?

  17. Don't be put off from showing the lighter side of discussion, I'm not expecting a great response but I will be seeing who skips class here!

    I just on BBC Notttingham "Tale as old as time", you from Beauty and the Beast? In PoN's case @GrannyPie and @super_ram ;) Now it was being sung by a performer, I have no idea who by but it is one of the songs I remember from my childhood. I had watched Beauty and the Beast a few months back with my daughters Ellie and Ava.

    As you expect they loved it. I've ranted about how cartoon's no longer teach children about life, the same can be said about Animated films but to some level it is still there. Example Disney's Up! Very hard to watch the scene where Ellie dies, which good films can provoke emotion.

    Anyways, please leave a animated soundtrack either video or comment which reminds you of a time shared with your family.

    @the_dan_1 I'm expecting you to attend class.. ;)

  18. best notts player you have seen? what game they featured in can you remember?

    for me its lee hughes, he looked class and could easily find space or drop off from his markers. the game which stands out for me was the one where he scored his first hattrick he came bursting towards the kop and it all went mental. does anyone remember which team this was? i dont.

  19. I've written my thoughts about the F.A Cup exit and the disappointment behind it, yet for me it's not the end of the world. I would just like to see if we can generate a worthwhile discussion about it, so we can see how each person feels about it.

  20. Joined Real Sociedad until the end of the 2016 season.

    This might be the right sort of club for him, as Man Utd never seemed to be the right fit.

  21. After listening to Colin's Question about last season,

    I got the impression the Derry is getting annoyed about the persistant question.

    To me, last season was history when we kicked off our season at PNE.

  22. Mice...

    It's that time of year I guess, they are looking for somewhere nice and snuggly to call home for the winter.

    So far in the kitchen, one caught in a trap, the poison dish keeps being emptied, in fact this morning they had shoved the empty dish out into the floor so we could fill it up.

    Up in the loft, we have caught one in a trap, the poison dish is being munched on daily, there is a body for me to go and remove now, and you can hear them running around dancing, its like Strictly come Rodent.

    The plan,

    more traps, more poison, and recordings of Bruce Forsyth

  23. Sorry @super_ram, but this thread is anti Derby.

    Surely this is a Notts phrase not a sheep phrase!!!

    Actress Angelina Jolie left some audience members baffled when she greeted Derby actor Jack O'Connell with "ay up me duck" at an awards ceremony.

    She spoke in a Derby accent and introduced him with the East Midlands phrase as she presented him with an award at the Hollywood Film Awards.

    Some television viewers tweeted in delight while others did not understand why she was talking about a duck.

    O'Connell has the lead role in Jolie's upcoming film Unbroken.

    Again apologies warm, but some things are sacred!!!

  24. I've just looked at the table and we're fourth, have lost three games out of 16 and have a hard-working, passionate team. I'm excited. There now cannot be any doubt whatsoever that Shaun Derry's black and white army will lead us to the Championship and eventually to world domination and beyond. Someone's got to win promotion, after all. It's about time it was us.

    Keep this at the top if you agree with the following:

    WE ARE GOING UP SAY WE ARE GOING UP!
