  1. I woke up one morning, round about the beginning of the year, with an irritation in my right eye.It felt to me like there was some grit there but no-one could see anything. The funny thing was that the irritation kept disappearing only to return.I had a routine eye test due at my optician and told him about it when I went there a few days later. After close scrutiny of my eyes he told me I had Trichiasis-a posh name for ingrowing eyelashes. He went on to say that he would inform my GP who would refer me to hospital. So on Monday, this week, with Will for support,I reported to the Q.M,C.Eye Outpatient department.

We arrived early and because of this I was expecting a long wait, although it wasn't really busy. After about about 10 minutes or so my name was called out. Will came with me as we followed a nurse,me thinking-'great ,it'll soon be all over.'I was ushered to a seat ,asked a few health questions and then given an eye test.I thought this a bit unnecessary as I'd had this done when I visited the optician a few weeks earlier and anyway it's not my eyes that are the real problem. After this I was shown to another waiting area.Again, after a short wait, I was called in to see the Doctor. He was pleasant enough but very quiet and being Asian,a little hard to understand. He asked me the same questions that I had already been asked, eventually asking me what my problem was. After close examination of both eyes involving a very bright light, he made a few notes then turned to me and told me I had ingrowing eyelashes.WOW WHAT A SURPRISE.He then made more notes before catching me by surprise and suddenly putting eyedrops in my eyes, making me jump and my eyes water. At this point I thought I was in for a long wait as you usually have to wait a while for the drops to take effect. No,straightaway he had a quick look again, then told me I needed surgery to correct the lineup of my eyelashes. He went on to add that he only dealt with back of the eye problems and I would have to see a front of the eye specialist adding further that I could use tape on my eye but failing to explain further. So with that it was bye bye ,we'll be in touch and I'm no nearer to a solution-A COMPLETE WASTE OF MY TIME.

  2. Welcome to Pride of Nottingham @magpie c, it's nice to have you here. Thanks for taking the time to join us! It might take a little time to get used to us but once you do, I think you will be well a way. :)

Please do consider telling us a little about yourself.

  3. Former footballer Stan Collymore has accused Twitter of not doing enough to combat abusive messages after he was targeted by internet trolls.

The broadcaster has retweeted some of the offensive messages he has received since he suggested Liverpool striker Luis Suarez dived to earn a penalty in Saturday's match against Aston Villa.

Staffordshire Police confirmed it was investigating.

Twitter said it took action against targeted abuse that was reported to it.

    'Thorough investigation'

Mr Collymore, a former Liverpool player who now works as a pundit for radio station TalkSport,

wrote to his 505,000 Twitter followers: "In the last 24 hours I've been threatened with murder several times, demeaned on my race, and many of these accounts are still active. Why?"

He later added: "I accuse Twitter directly of not doing enough to combat racist/homophobic/sexist hate messages, all of which are illegal in the UK."

In another tweet he wrote: "Several Police forces have been fantastic. Twitter haven't. Dismayed."

He's a troll himself, very annoying and to be honest with you - I think he does this to attract the limelight. He actually responds to them! why? Sarcastic responses will attract trolls. I can remember tweeting him myself, after he trolled someone.

Threats aren't acceptable but the guy needs to either come off Twitter or block them. If he's reported them (which I would be surprised if he did) Twitter would take action.

Personally I'm getting tired of him and his views.

  6. I have just found that Danny has been put up for transfer. I personally am gutted. He is a very talented striker and we need him badly. I can't understand why he is up.

A lot of fans on facebook are happy about this though. I can't understand why, as it will be history repeating itself, when he leaves for another club and starts scoring goals very match!

  7. Put on the TV tonight to watch Gladbach vs. Bayern at Borussia-Park 7.30 KO our time. Gladbach 8 wins and 1 draw at home this season face the season-long unbeaten Bayern without Schweinsteiger and Martinez (and possibly Ribery).

Keep an eye on Borussia's attacking quartet of Kruse, Hermann, Arango and Rafael, and in defensive midfield Granit Xhaka who had more touches of the ball than anyother player in the Bundesliga in the first half of the season.

FCB's record in Moenchengladbach is not very good over the years, so here's hoping for another Borussia victory..

All together now (to the tune of Yellow Submarine):

Zieht den Bayern die Lederhosen aus, Lederhosen aus, Lederhosen aus
Zieht den Bayern die Lederhosen aus, Lederhosen aus, Lederhosen aus

  8. Why not share if you follow the magpies but aren't currently based in Nottinghamshire. Who knows, you could find someone just around the corner to go to away matches with. What do you do to scratch your Notts itch?

I'm currently in Brum, so still get to go to home matches. The only annoying thing for me is the lack if away travel options (other than journeying in my own)

  9. Notts County's hopes of keeping Callum McGregor have received some encouragement from Celtic boss Neil Lennon.

The Magpies retain a strong interest in the Hoops midfielder, whose loan deal expired last week.

McGregor was in the stands to watch the 2-1 home win against Sheffield United at the weekend and even trained with the rest of the squad ahead of that victory.

The 20-year-old's performances for Notts have attracted the interest of other clubs but Lennon appears open to the idea of an extended stay with Shaun Derry's side.

"We are quite happy with the situation there and the reports coming back are very positive" said Lennon.

The Magpies' League One rivals Wolves were on Monday linked with a £750,000 swoop for McGregor.

Wanderers' interest in the Scotland Under-21 international was later backed up by the player's representative Kenny Moyes, although Moyes went on to say that 'no firm offer' had been made.

However, Celtic are not looking to sell.

When asked about the possibility of a permanent deal, Lennon said: "Not at the minute.

"The reason we put him out on loan is to get him first-team experience. What he has done is set the bar for the rest of the young players who we want to maybe go out on loan.

"As I said, the reports coming back are very positive.

"He has been linked with Wolves - he has been linked with plenty of clubs. But he is our player and ideally we would like to bring him back in the summer and see how he has progressed."

McGregor is the Magpies' leading scorer this season, netting 12 goals in 27 appearances since joining the club in August.

    ---

Well, isn't that good news!? :D

Obviously it's still at the speculative stage, but surely with the blessing of the manager, there is nothing to stop McGregor coming back until the end of the season?

  10. I'm not sure about this, I think that I will end up scrapping this but it might just be me being fussy. What do you think?

  11. I didn't get chance to watch it on Christmas day, I actually forgot. I can't even remember why I looked it up, however I noticed some clips on youtube and felt tempted to watch. I didn't, I searched for the full episode. Sadly BBC have taken it off the Iplayer, yet I have my ways of finding things.

As a kid I loved Open All Hours, especially because it starred Ronnie Barker and David Jason.

Did you watch it? If not, here's your chance. - Just click 'Watch as Free User', This is 100% safe I can assure you of this.

  13. Interesting game, although one I cannot afford to attend. £28 seems quite the rip off (along with travel), they obviously felt that we would take more than some other clubs with us being local but will the price effect the good following we have been seeing?

Things aren't going all that well for the Posh, so there's something for us to gain by trying to go at them for the points.

Although yesterday they beat Tranmere 3-0, regardless it should be a good game and we have something to protect now. It will be important for us to at least come a way with a point but not a major set back if we don't. With the following fixtures for us being, Walsall (H), Preston (A), Coventry (H), Wolves (A) and Shrewsbury (H).

Some big games coming our way again, however we have the advantage with the majority due to being at home.

I would go to Peterborough hoping for a win, though I would settle for a draw. I don't think we will take 300 fans (credit to them if we do) and I think it's likely to result in a draw. COYP!

    Thoughts?

  14. Hi @lambleypie good to see you on here. I see you've already got stuck in and are posting. I hope you enjoy this great community.

  15. Anyone heard owt?

I think the big one is if we can keep hold of McGregor and Graelish. When do they officially return to their parent clubs?

Not directly Nott's related, but it could be!

    • Introduction of orange cards that would allow referees to send players to a sin-bin
    • Quotas for foreign players
    • Implementing rugby's rule where only the captain can talk to the referee with a free-kick advanced 10 yards for any dissent
    • Abolishing the 'triple punishment' rule where a player who prevents a goalscoring opportunity in the penalty areas concedes a spot-kick, is sent off and also suspended
    • All Fifa presidential candidates taking part in live debates on television and in front of the six continental confederations
    • Making public the salary of the Fifa president and leading officials

Which of these do people agree with? Are they just trying to make changes for changes sake?

  17. Shaun Derry is being quoted by Auntie Beeb as saying "Our performances of late have been top drawer. We are different animal now." [ http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/25846045 ] I've been wondering what he meant:

There's loads of these curios @ Google images "hybrid animals" if anyone wants to they can cut 'n' paste 'n share their own ideas.

    UPIES?

  18. Anyone else bored out their mind with United 'fans' who take over facebook every time they don't win?

It's getting too much now. Most of them aren't from Manchester, never go to games, yet stake some claim as its 'their club'.

Cant just be me fed up with these trolls?

  19. I consumed quite a bit of alcohol over the Christmas and New Year period (as you do) so on 2nd January I decided enough was enough and stopped drinking any form of alcohol. It was going so well, it didn't bother me at all until today. Mrs. H. cooked a lovely trout for our tea, it was poached in a butter/wine and garlic sauce and I just really really fancied a nice glass of white wine with it but I didn't give in and had a glass of cola instead. Now I think I might be going off the rails and will cave in tomorrow when we have a curry, I love a glass of beer with my curry.

    Am I an alcoholic?

  20. Or today.. depending on when your reading this. The date we're talking about is 21st January.

I'll be honest, I'm pretty bored tonight. I noticed that today (20th) it is 7 years since Notts won 5-2 at home to Torquay, in what was my last game before we moved from Nottingham. It remains one of my favourite ever games, can't believe it was that long ago!

The thought got me thinking about how well we might have done in the past on the 21st January, looking for a pottentially positive omen for the game at Peterborough as it where. Surprisingly, the omen's are quite good!

You have to go right back to 1978 for the last time Notts were beaten on 21st January, when they went down 3-1 to Southampton at The Dell, Mick Vinter grabbing the Notts goal. Since then we've done quite well on this day:

21st January 1984 (First Division) - Arsenal 1-1 Notts County - scorer: John Chiedozie

21st January 1986 (Third Division) - Brentford 1-1 Notts County - scorer: David Hunt

21st January 1988 (Third Divison) - Notts County 3-1 Northampton Town - scorers: Ian McParland x2 & Mark Draper

21st January 1995 (Second Divison) - Sunderland 1-2 Notts County - scorers: Gary Lund & Rob Matthews

21st January 2003 (Third Divison) - Notts County 3-2 Stockport County - scorers: Mark Stallard, Paul Heffernan & Darren Caskey

21st January 2006 (League Two) - Notts County 2-1 Shrewsbury Town - scorers: David Pipe & Kelvin Wilson

21st January 2012 (League One - Notts County 1-1 MK Dons - scorer: Jeff Hughes

We'll tane any positive omen we can at Notts County :D COYP

If enough people are interested, I might look to do something like this for every matchday :)

  21. Television by Roald Dahl

The most important thing we've learned,
So far as children are concerned,
    Is never, NEVER, NEVER let
Them near your television set --
Or better still, just don't install
    The idiotic thing at all.
In almost every house we've been,
We've watched them gaping at the screen.
They loll and slop and lounge about,
And stare until their eyes pop out.
(Last week in someone's place we saw
A dozen eyeballs on the floor.)
They sit and stare and stare and sit
    Until they're hypnotised by it,
    Until they're absolutely drunk
With all that shocking ghastly junk.
Oh yes, we know it keeps them still,
They don't climb out the window sill,
They never fight or kick or punch,
They leave you free to cook the lunch
And wash the dishes in the sink --
But did you ever stop to think,
    To wonder just exactly what
This does to your beloved tot?
IT ROTS THE SENSE IN THE HEAD!
    IT KILLS IMAGINATION DEAD!
IT CLOGS AND CLUTTERS UP THE MIND!
IT MAKES A CHILD SO DULL AND BLIND
    HE CAN NO LONGER UNDERSTAND
    A FANTASY, A FAIRYLAND!
HIS BRAIN BECOMES AS SOFT AS CHEESE!
HIS POWERS OF THINKING RUST AND FREEZE!
HE CANNOT THINK -- HE ONLY SEES!
'All right!' you'll cry. 'All right!' you'll say,
'But if we take the set away,
What shall we do to entertain
    Our darling children? Please explain!'
We'll answer this by asking you,
'What used the darling ones to do?
'How used they keep themselves contented
    Before this monster was invented?'
Have you forgotten? Don't you know?
We'll say it very loud and slow:
THEY ... USED ... TO ... READ! They'd READ and READ,
AND READ and READ, and then proceed
To READ some more. Great Scott! Gadzooks!
One half their lives was reading books!
The nursery shelves held books galore!
Books cluttered up the nursery floor!
And in the bedroom, by the bed,
More books were waiting to be read!
    Such wondrous, fine, fantastic tales
Of dragons, gypsies, queens, and whales
And treasure isles, and distant shores
Where smugglers rowed with muffled oars,
    And pirates wearing purple pants,
    And sailing ships and elephants,
And cannibals crouching 'round the pot,
    Stirring away at something hot.
(It smells so good, what can it be?
    Good gracious, it's Penelope.)
The younger ones had Beatrix Potter
With Mr. Tod, the dirty rotter,
    And Squirrel Nutkin, Pigling Bland,
    And Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle and-
Just How The Camel Got His Hump,
And How the Monkey Lost His Rump,
And Mr. Toad, and bless my soul,
There's Mr. Rat and Mr. Mole-
Oh, books, what books they used to know,
    Those children living long ago!
So please, oh please, we beg, we pray,
Go throw your TV set away,
And in its place you can install
A lovely bookshelf on the wall.
Then fill the shelves with lots of books,
    Ignoring all the dirty looks,
The screams and yells, the bites and kicks,
And children hitting you with sticks-
Fear not, because we promise you
That, in about a week or two
Of having nothing else to do,
They'll now begin to feel the need
    Of having something to read.
And once they start -- oh boy, oh boy!
You watch the slowly growing joy
That fills their hearts. They'll grow so keen
They'll wonder what they'd ever seen
    In that ridiculous machine,
    That nauseating, foul, unclean,
    Repulsive television screen!
And later, each and every kid
Will love you more for what you did.

  22. Birmingham have confirmed that youngster Reece Hales has joined Notts County on trial.

The 18-year-old will train with the Sky Bet League One club on a short-term basis to help with his development.

Hales, who recently had a loan spell in non-league football with Worcester City, has made one appearance for Blues' first team, coming on as a late substitute in the FA Cup third-round tie with Leeds one year ago.

    1554589_10152924365720961_1253010350_n.j

Looks more the development signing but you never know, anyone know much about him?

  23. Did anyone see this story about a father who was fined £600 for taking his kids out of school to go on holiday.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2540054/People-make-laws-dont-live-real-world-Anger-father-fined-600-taking-three-children-school-weeks-holiday-Greece.html

When our two boys were at school we regularly took them out of school for the week before the May half term holiday so we had two weeks including the half term week. Almost every year we went to France camping, the lads loved it, they had all sorts of experiences in a foreign country, ate different food, saw historic sites, learned about the world war 1 & 2 battlefields, they learned a little of the language, made friends with French children on the campsites and even got invited back to French kids tents and caravans for meals etc., thereby learning a little of how the French live and how it is different to how we live. We used to sort of make it an extension to their education much more than sitting in a classroom being taught French or history etc., It was only one week out of their school lives but it enabled us to have a cheaper holiday than would normally be possible and them to gain from the experience.

What do others think about this, would you take your kids out of school to go on holiday?
