Posted June 30, 20231 yr #1 Quote Cork City are set to complete the signing of Republic of Ireland U21 goalkeeper Tiernan Brooks in the coming days. The 20-year-old shot-stopper is already familiar with Turner's Cross having made his Ireland U21 debut at the venue in the young Boys in Green's 2-1 victory over Iceland back in March. Notts recently signed keeper Aidan Stone from Port Vale on a two-year contract to move Brooks down the pecking order behind the new comer and Sam Slocombe, who was their first choice netminder as they won promotion to League 2 last season. https://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/soccer/arid-41172685.html
June 30, 20231 yr #3 @Fan of Big Tone It's that brilliant standard of reporting that we've talked about recently. It seems that we have signed a new goalkeeper and there are rumours that this might mean Tiernan Brooks will leave either permanently or on loan. I believe there's some truth to this, but the fact is it's all vaque. It makes me believe that it's just discussions at the moment. I hope it's a loan deal, if we allowed him to leave I would be quite annoyed and disappointed. Yet a loan move makes sense.
June 30, 20231 yr #4 I believe it's a loan deal but rumours will float since we've signed a new GK. But I'll be disappointed if it's anything other than a loan.
June 30, 20231 yr #5 I would prefer it to be a loan. It would be disappointing to sell such a promising keeper. The article doesn’t seem noteworthy as it switches to talking about a midfielder. I think it may just be speculation, but we’ll see where this goes.
June 30, 20231 yr #6 This has to be a loan deal. If it turned out to be a permanent deal, I would wonder if we’re ever going to give younger talent the chance to come through.
June 30, 20231 yr #7 Yes, I hope it’s a loan deal. It could be a good thing if so, but if it’s a permanent signing, it would be sad to see such a young prospect go.
June 30, 20231 yr #8 It looks like Aidan Stone will be considered for the backup position over Tiernan Brooks. A loan move makes sense. I have my fingers crossed that he’ll gain some much-needed experience, but despite not having seen Stone, I think Brooks has a huge amount of potential.
July 1, 20231 yr #9 I’m sceptical about this. I don’t think it will happen. It doesn’t make sense for it to be a permanent deal. Are they really willing to pay for him? It makes even less sense for us to loan him to them. He won’t gain experience useful at our level. I just don’t see it happening.
July 1, 20231 yr #10 I can’t see this happening; I agree it’s just a weird fit for a player that the club has tipped. We see Notts praise talent like Tiernan Brooks, but very rarely do we see them sell or loan them out to a league where the competitiveness isn’t quite useful to us. The Irish league isn’t all that bad, but the National League North/South is a lot more competitive.
July 2, 20231 yr #11 It is probable that Tiernan Brooks may go out on loan. At least, that is my hope. Cork may not be a bad choice for him. However, if the club can find a team interested in the National League, I believe that would be a wise decision.
July 2, 20231 yr #12 I’d welcome a loan agreement for Tiernan Brooks, but I wouldn’t want to see him leave permanently just yet. We’ve had some promising keepers over the years, but he has real potential. He’s a talented young keeper.
July 2, 20231 yr #13 No, I can’t see the club selling Tiernan Brooks. They have worked hard on his training, and he just needs game time. Surely if anything, it would be a loan? I would prefer him to join a National League North/South team. Plenty of teams in those leagues should be willing to give Brooks a chance.
July 2, 20231 yr #14 I don’t think Tiernan Brooks will go on loan or leave for Cork City. I think he’ll be kept around Notts during pre-season and then loaned out.
July 3, 20231 yr #15 Cork City? If it’s happening, it has to be a loan deal. Since it’s been a while since it’s been written, I think it’s more likely not to happen.
July 3, 20231 yr #16 I don’t know; I think it might not be happening, but I wouldn’t be against Brooks going out on loan.
July 3, 20231 yr #17 Brooks has a bright future; it would be a shame to let him leave at the moment without really being tested. A loan move makes much more sense, and I do hope he manages to gain some game experience again.
July 6, 20231 yr #18 Like the CEO, who knows what’s happening with Tiernan Brooks. I heard he wasn’t at the Nuneaton friendly, which seems a bit odd.
July 7, 20231 yr #19 He has officially joined Cork City today. https://www.nottscountyfc.co.uk/news/2023/july/brooks-to-cork-060723/
July 7, 20231 yr #21 Good move him, he's at an age now where he needs all the game time he can get (if he's not going to get it with us). I've got high hopes for him in the future, he looks very promising for someone so young. I'm sure he'll do well there. And the season ends in November in Ireland, so there's potential for another loan in January too if his game time will be limited again.
July 7, 20231 yr #22 Best wishes to him, now it's confirmed. I am glad he's not leaving Notts for good, has he has a lot of potential. Edited July 7, 20231 yr by heraldmagpie
