what are the first things in your opinion that neal ardley and neil coxs have to do once they take over properly? what would you list as important to getting the results needed on the pitch.

i think quickly understanding what depth the squad has and how best to use it within their tactics would help.

its not something that can be done easily but harry kewell did not seem to know even after his sacking, so i think a basic understanding would help them because i know they will learn more as they settle into the roles. i think knowing how to improve the squad would be a benefit, if this means getting the best out of players such as elliott hewitt and richard duffy then it can only be a positive.

what about you?

I haven't seen Notts since the early season 4 - 0 home defeat to Yeovil and I thought then that Notts played OK for about half an hour but once Yeovil scored  they just capitulated.Add to that the games I've listened to and reports here on PoN it would seem that Notts have continued mostly in the same vein.So I would say Neal Ardley needs to sort out  'the headless chicken' defence, add 'steel' to midfield , get Notts playing as a team, restore confidence and instil some pride.Easy !

Bring the squad together and get a bit of team cohesion and bonding going. Need to create a siege mentality. Need all players pulling in the same direction.

Secondly, tighten up this shambles of a backline. In his full seasons in charge of Wimbledon, the most he conceded was 60 (2014-15).

Add two midfielders who can do the dirty work as well as pass. Liam Kelly from Coventry can be one as he's not getting much game time currently.

Leaders also need to be bought in. We had many leaders last season and it helped massively. This can help game management.

Get a settled starting x1 and get the players up to full fitness seems as we can't see out games.

They need to get the confidence and chemistry between the players up

They have to grasp the basics and it's very important this is done within the first few training sessions.

Personally I would take a step back a little on the first day of training, I would watch the players carefully. See who listens, who shows signs of wanting to play, who's passionate/a leader/ dedicated and who are the issues with the lack of focus (or are a bad influence). Knowing who does what, you'll know more about who you can rely on and from day one everyone should be acting in a manner to please the new gaffer.

It's not always the case though, sometimes you have people who are nice but they have issues which only become negative over time.

Knowing who is likely to give 100% and will following instructions is vital, plus Neal Ardley could isolate the players who are a negative influence to minimise any further issues. If the squad is generally sound and there's no bad eggs, it still shows where the players are at in terms of listening.

Ardley needs to do this, find a formation that suites the players. He needs to give team and specific instructions to all of the players.

After this he can review who is doing what, what they can improve with or on and who aren't with the program. It's important that a basic approach to is taken so the team can start playing like one. Before anything else, we MUST know who within this squad will battle and fight against relegation.

Neal Ardley does have a lot to do, finding a formation that can be successful will be one of the main priorities I feel.

Cutting out the play and arguments amongst the players is too.

Notts has to play as a team and lose as one, the individuals need to start playing with others. Its not so much the players style for me but this, we have players who want to score and be the person noticed. it's all wrong.

Neal has a lot to do he needs to lift confidence and morale and find a way to support the players without being too aggressive, as I don’t believe this would be appropriate at this moment. He has to get the players to believe in his strategy and his way of playing, he needs to choose a new captain. Possibly get a back 4 that gel and give Fitzsimmons the confidence and support he needs. keep them together so they can play as one. Midfield also needs a reshuffle maybe an attacking midfield to support the front two.

He needs to find the starting 11 and then avoid making changes when possible, the odd one doesn't hinder anything but making constant changes just leads to issues. The back four should never change for me unless it's due to injury, tactical or suspension.

Both Kewell and Nolan was guilty of switching it too often.

The first thing he will do is reinstall Stead and develop the long ball out of defence. He will allow football to be played in the opponents half. The best manager we had that played that system ? Neil Warnock !!

As for the team he picks, that will depend on who fits his initial style to get us out of the present hole that we find ourselves in. If he falls for the Duffy option we are stuffed, if he doesn’t stop Fitz booting it up field straight to an opponent we won’t get anywhere.

Fingers crossed he can work things out bloody quick or he will be resuming his holiday in Dubai sooner than he thinks and Notts will be sunk out of sight.

I think he should take things slow but practical.

There will be some players who are a negative influence and I want to see Neal Ardley stomp down on the silly arguments. Several players are guilty of picking at each other which really must be stopped ASAP. The performances can improve over time but all the effort involved will be dismissed if they cannot get the players all on the same page. Mistakes happen so why people ***** about it is a joke.

I think he needs to get to know all of the players and make sure he's respected, if any player refuses to come on board they need to be punished but I think he will grasp all this.

Ardley needs to get a striker to support Dennis, Stead is back hopefully on Thursday (he told me this). It's important we stop defending so deep.

Yes, I agree. He needs to find a good balance between defence and attack and make sure all the players contribute to each part of the game. There is no one good enough that they don't need to defend or they don't have to bother to attack.

Find out who should be in the starting 11, what formation would work well and then don't make changes unless its related to tactics or injuries. Get David Vaughan into the team so he can find his feet and help create things.

A new formation and giving some other players a chance is very important its been mostly the same players all season.

I hope Ardley watched the players train today, he needs to start preparing and getting to know them. First thing he should do is watch them train and see what he can do to encourage more from them.

Posted

First thing? Find time to speak to the players who have captained the club and ask them respectfully what they believe the problem to be.

Listen, take on board what was said and then approach the squad over training.

Posted

@BromPie speaking to the experienced players and club captain would be a good decision. It's new territory for Ardley!

Posted

Hopefully the focus is straight to viewing videos of the last 10 games, this way Neal Ardley can see what worked and what didn't. It gives him the chance to go out and sort things on the training field which I agree with.

I will be surprised if there isn’t a “behind closed doors” game organised for Saturday. There is nothing like a game situation to gather much needed understanding of who can do what.

Posted

His first task must surely to get Notts their first win over Mansfield away for god knows how long? Big ask though. 😆

Posted

He needs to plan which games he thinks he can realistically get the points required for safety and then build the team around this idea.
