Who was your man of the match for Notts County against Wycombe Wanderers?

  2. As the title suggests anyone know what kids activities there are in the family stand tomorrow or have they been cancelled / stopped now?

I ask as it's not published on the website like they have done in the past

  3. On this day in 2005, Stefan Oakes hit an absolute screamer from 40 yards for Notts County in a 3-1 win at League Two leaders Yeovil Town, which was rounded off by goals from Glynn Hurst and Mark Stallard.

Here is the strike in all its glory!

  4. Game 40 - The Chairboys (H)

    Team: Wycombe Wanderers

What line-up should Kevin Nolan opt for? What will be the key areas for the Magpies to get a victory? What do you think the final score will be?

Depends what Notts side turns up really. Having Hall back will be a boost but morale has surely taken a battering given County's inconsistent form - looking over the last couple weeks, we're not doing "badly", just not doing well enough for promotion to be realistic. Obviously a win will put us right back in contention for the top three but I feel it'll end as a draw at best. Hope I am proven wrong!

Make or break game. All 3 results are equally likely IMO.

Win or bust. If we don't win, for me our automatic promotion hopes are over. Nolan HAS GOT to start taking some responsibility. Just because he's played in the Prem and has done well so far doesn't mean he is untouchable. Drop the underperformers. Collin out, Duffy out, Dickinson out, Hawkridge out. You know what, Noble out as well since I don't actually remember him doing anything whatsoever against Chesterfield. Ameobi out as he looks so uninterested it's actually quite scary.

Bring in Fitzsimons, Hall, Jones, Alessandra, Husin and Forte

Plus you know you're sh1te when the only option you have is Matty Virtue.

When Hewitt sees his missus he's probably in 2 minds to hoof her up the pitch aswell because that's all he does. Grant and Hawkridge were ineffective, again. Infact I don't know what's happened to Grant since Christmas because he's not turned up in 2018. We're  toothless in attack and we have no plan B.

    4. Fozzy

      Fozzy

We're never going to have a plan B as long as Nolan continues this obsession of substituting a player for one in exactly the same position. The first player didn't work, so what on earth makes him think that another will, doing exactly the same thing is so maddening!

Take a chance in games, we could have had a lot more points by being a bit more adventurous at times, especially against lower table opposition.

  7. Notts County have published their season ticket prices for 2018-19 "with adult prices frozen, huge savings for young adults and an exciting offer for juniors".

    https://www.nottscountyfc.co.uk/news/2018/march/season-tickets-2018-19/

What do you think of the prices and offers? Will you consider renewing - and if so, will it be early bird or later on? Share your thoughts!

  8. I don't like to think we have but I am so annoyed after today. I feel like I've accepted us not going up. Where do we turn this around?

    Fallouts and backchat are happening

Lost 4 of our last 7

Where do we go from here?

  9. Sky Sports twice tipped Notts County for the League Two title over the course of the season, which we have discussed on the forum.

With just eight games left, they've downgraded their prediction in what I would assume is the last predictor of the season, and the Magpies are now tipped to finish fifth.

    This is what they say:

The stats-based Sky Sports Predictor is tipping Accrington to go on to win Sky Bet League Two this season.

Accrington's incredible rise has seen them jump above long-time leaders Luton at the top of the table, and the predictor is backing them to go on to win the title and promotion.

The Hatters and Wycombe, who currently sit second and third, have been tipped to hold onto those spots, while the play-off places look set to be filled by the current incumbents of Mansfield, Notts County, Exeter and Coventry.

And here is their final look table.

    skysports-league-two-table_4261994.jpg

    Thoughts on this latest prediction?

  10. This was my view sitting on the half way line just behind the dugouts, although we were under cover the snow was blowing into the stand, it was bitterly cold too.

  11. I think we will go up in the automatic but it will depend on if Wycombe win their game in hand. If they loose that I think we will get that last automatic spot. But I think County have turned a corner and have got momentum back that they had at the beginning of the season. Hope fully not the playoff route that won’t do us any favours the automatic I think is our route up.

  12. Looking at this picture he’s standing outside the penalty area but his arm is inside, the ref had a good view, to me it looks as if he made the right call. What do others think?

Where the 7 minutes came from is another matter.

  13. Today, 15 March, is the anniversary of Jackie Sewell's world-record transfer to Sheffield Wednesday from Notts County.

Sewell, one of the finest forwards of his generation, went to Hillsborough in 1951 for £35,000 (many sources have it as £34,500 but this is not accurate - the cheque which the Owls gave to Notts has the first figure on).

Football site SoccerAttic dug out this piece from Charles Buchan’s Football Monthly no. 199 March 1968 discussing the transfer.

Here is the link to the online piece and below is the original article! Enjoy!

  14. Football quarterly "The Blizzard" has published a comprehensive account of the Notts County Munto Era - it's a long read but a worthwhile one definitely.

Meadow Lane is a happy place to be at the moment. Notts County are in the running for promotion back to League One and everyone is pulling in the same direction. Under Kevin Nolan their progress on the pitch has been relatively serene and, with the backing of the local businessman Alan Hardy, the club’s future seems secure. Hardy completed his takeover last January, saving Notts from potential liquidation, and has been a visible presence throughout his year in charge.

Things were rather different in 2009-10, the last time they had hopes of promotion. In the space of seven turbulent months, Notts went from believing they were one of the richest clubs in England to teetering on the brink of bankruptcy when the unpalatable truth about their shadowy billionaire owners was finally revealed. They stared out over the precipice but were pulled back at the last.

Victims of an elaborate and fantastical ruse, Notts nevertheless had an unforgettable season, which culminated in them winning the League Two title. It was a constantly evolving story of contradictions and extreme contrasts, from a fake Bahraini prince with apparently limitless wealth and a trip to North Korea to discuss trillions of dollars of mineral assets to unpaid milk bills and £1 takeovers. The Football League’s oldest club has flirted with disaster on several occasions and lived to tell the tale. This one was the most remarkable of all.

I think may be it should have cause st times it was hard to think what was going  through the lads Mind i dread think how they played this did a bang up job and did a professional job but the hand ball against us I think the weather played its part.

  17. Based on a mean of 5

Collin 4 He was well protected by Duffy and Hall but his entrenched belief to stay on his line and not come for balls which should rightfully be his to claim, is really frustrating

Tootle 5 he had a couple of torrid moments, as Mansfield's threat was down his side. Less effective in supporting the attack

Duffy 6.5 He stepped up to the mark. Some good challenges

Hall 7 Looking like an experienced pro now. Calm and collective

Dickinson 6.5 Solid when needed. Closed out his defensive side without much threat

Hewitt 6 Always mobile but hurried distribution at times, exasperates

Noble 6.5 Much more mature performance than of late, though was lucky he didnt connect with a flailing arm, post that melee.

Hawkridge 7 Proves again his all round play is streets ahead of Alessandra. Gets in where it matters

Grant 5 Too much on the periphery at times. He needs to get involved and commit defenders as he has the skill

Shola 5.5 Perhaps should have converted the gilt edged chance first half. He is a handful for defenders

Stead 6 All the effort but tired towards the end

    Subs

Smith   Unrated well,we  needed Forte to at least provide an outlet to run through the channels. Is Smith on some sort of sub appearance bonus?

Alessandra  2 When mental toughness is needed, absolutely no excuses for what he did. Those 2 points dropped in a moment of madness could define the season, even more so than Ross's sending off

Win. Just win. Win win win. All Notts have to do is win. Win

Mansfailed have become a bit of a bogey team for us in the last few years I really hope that this game will be a turning point and the see saw starts to tip the other way. I do think we stand a better chance since Evans departed. They have drawn two since he left so hopefully a bit of doubt is starting to creep into the players minds.

      Heart says win.

      Head says draw at best.

    4. Chris

      Chris

The tides kinda turned on both clubs, we had less pressure on us and now it's sort of restored itself back. Mansfield seem to be having teething issues with their new manager (who seems to be a bit of a bizarre appointment). I still think we could surprise fans, as most won't expect a win but on the day it depends how we play. If we had of played better at Field Mill, there's no chance they'd have won us so easily.

For the record I think they have a decent team and are capable of promotion, I've always said this but they're far from a 'complete' squad and there's a lot of weaknesses there that we could exploit.

Likewise, they can make us crumble and I hope for our sakes Richard Duffy plays well because if he does - we tend to do better.

I can see us winning, especially just pinching it late on.

It's most likely going to be tight again on the field, so we just need to encourage and be mindful that they can break teams down. If we work hard and perform well, it would be nice to win them deservedly!

  23. Can anyone explain why some of our so called fans are obsessed with giving Adam Collin abuse? Twitter was full of it again last night, he seems to have become the latest target, I imagine 90% of the people abusing him didn’t even go to the match.

Ok some may think he isn’t the best choice in goal and would prefer a change, I have some sympathy with that but I don’t agree with people tagging him in abusive tweets, can they not give their opinion without it becoming abusive and personal.

Having said that I think football players, managers and owners should steer well clear of twitter it does seem to attract a certain element of keyboard warriors.

  24. I'd like to take this opportunity to wish all of you Notts County-supporting mothers, nanas and guardians a very happy Mother's Day.

When I proper got into Notts of my own volition, in 2006, she came with me to my first game - Notts v Lincoln at ML sometime in the 06-07 season - as nobody else I knew at the time was into Notts which was a really nice gesture from her.

I could go on and on about how great she is and so on but I won't bore you so I'll just keep it simple and say "thank you mum for being you".

Also a special shout out to Stacey, my other half and love of my life, who is a mother to three awesome children (only one is technically still a child though, the other two are "adults" now - though to me anyone under 25 is still a child - showing my age here!).

So yeah, massive respect to all you mothers out there - keep on being awesome!
