  2. Ray has confirmed we are in talks with him, right back came threw arsenal youth ranks but played most of his career at Middlesbrough thoughts?

  3. There's not much going on football-wise, so I thought I'd delve into the lives of members old and new ...

What kind of work do you do? Or did you do, if you're retired. And what do you young 'uns want to become?

I'm a translator, German to English. I translate operating instructions, advertising material, brochures, financial stuff into English for German customers. Not to be confused with an interpreter, I'm too slow for that (and not presentable enough)!

  4. Have you noticed an improvement on season ticket sales at all since your spending spree started. Do you have any update on amount sold?

Thanks for your time answering these daft questions.

  5. Welcome to our friendly community @imlaugingatyou I couldn't see a welcome thread for you and I didn't want you to feel left out.

Join in as and when you can, it's good to talk and we'd love to hear your views.

  6. I've been keeping an eye on their signings, and to be fair they've made some decent signings.

Just signed Krystian Pearce, rumoured for Ben Davies and of course signed Matty Green and Westcarr. It could be a decent season for them.

Pearce could be a very decent signing if they somehow manage to sort out his concentration. If he didn't spend so much time counting butterflies or whatever he does when he switches off, he could still have a very decent career. I can remember when he was with us, someone said something along the lines of 'for 85 minutes per game, he's one of the best players on the park, then for 5 minutes at least, he totally switches off, practically scoring them a couple of goals, and loses the game for us'. Hopefully they can nail down this issue, and he'll do very well for them.

Davies would be another good signing for them, although Pompy seem to be interested and you would assume he'd chose them over Mansfield, no disrespect intended. He's knocking on a bit now, but his set piece delivery alone will score them a few points in the league. Earlier on in the transfer window I thought he would've been a good signing for us, I still think he would be, but maybe would be a bit overkill in the middle of the park, Moniz wouldn't want him on the wing (never had pace - he's now older).

Green is gonna be hit or miss. He's scored 1 goal in the league, and spent last 2 years out injured. If he can come back close to the player he was, he could be a real goalscoring menace in this league.

Westcarr is still only 30. When he was with us, a lot of people complained about him being lazy. If you take a look back at that trophy winning season, especially in the second half of it, Westcarr plays very well. Some of his balls into the box are delightful.

I've had a flick through their forums and some of them are.... well, bitter about us, or deluded. However, I wish them a very good season (except when they play us of course), it wasn't that great seeing them in the conference.

  7. I'm sure we've touched on this before but we have lots more readers now so worth mentioning again.

I have noticed that our language is slowly becoming Americanised, is this a good thing or a bad thing?

The other day on a thread @notts-joe referred to a movie, now when I was a lad it was a film which you saw at the pictures.

    Other examples:

    Biscuits have become cookies

Mum or mam has become mom.
    Nappies are swiftly becoming diapers.
    Sweets have become candies.

I'm sure there are lots of other examples, have you noticed any? Is it a bad thing or don't you care?

  8. Ok so it is the third friendly tonight, what do we want from the match?

    For me...

Injury free.... a good workout... more cohesion... the keeper and defence tested... goals up front.

    Thoughts?

  9. I thought it would be good to have a centralized list detailing all the ins-and-outs at Notts this closed season. Admins/Mods, feel free to update this opening post with any new information to keep it relevant.

    Ins

    Outs

Of course, let me know if I have missed anything in this thread, and we will update it!

  10. Well next up for us is the trip across to Alfreton's Impact Arena Stadium... what do we expect, want, preferred approach?

oh yeah, and you watch Hawley will suddenly remember how to score...

    Saturday 18th... 3.00PM kick off

ha ha ha, no need to worry about Mr Hawley, he has packed his little case and gone on holiday to the riviera

  12. Not confirmed yet, but I think RT has already said we are just waiting on the paperwork.

This signing worries me a little. We are not exactly light in the CM department, and although this guy has played for Ajax, he has also played for Gillingham in L2 and made 1 appearance before being released.

Bit harsh to judge a player before he's signed, but....Mark Fotheringham v2?

  13. I firmly believe with the squad Notts have assembled they will be up there, I think their main rivals will be Pompey, Oxford & Plymouth, with Bristol Rovers possibly continuing their conference momentum................................thoughts??

  14. I heard an interview this morning with a man who is on a short list of 100 to go in a one way trip to Mars to set up a community on the planet.

Would you want to go knowing the risks and that you will never see your family again?

  15. The good people of Rushcliffe have raised £3,000 to create a playground for dogs including see saws, tunnels etc.,

What do you think of this?

Apologies to any dog owners but I do think SOME owners go over the top with their dogs and treat them like children. Ridiculous.

  17. The Football League have featured the Italian Magpies on their website following Notts County's surge to the top of the Stand Up and Be Counted table.

    ---

Notts County have the largest support in any one country across the Stand Up & Be Counted representation map, thanks to some Italian friends.

The fanbase, known as the Italian Magpies, have already helped County rack up more than 6,000 submissions on the club leaderboard. More than half of those who have registered their support for the Meadow Lane outfit are based in Italy, and that is down to a strong, long-standing relationship with a certain European giant - Juventus.

    ---

It's great to see the IM get recognition for their role and contribution to the Notts fan scene. If we hold on to secure top place, it'll make national news. Would be absolutely fantastic for everyone at Meadow Lane :)

  18. I am really getting excited about the coming season, I've not felt like this pre-season for a long time. Even my red mates haven't got a bad thing to say about it, I'm sure there's even a small amount of envy when we compare our signings 😉 anyway, COYP! !!!

  19. Good evening all,

Our squad is, as predicted, now vey thin, but we have today signed Dissa Traore on a one year deal and a little earlier Jordan Williams on a season long loan from Liverpool.

I believe both were with you last season and wonder how you found them?

  20. HOW TO PLAY:

The aim of the game is for a member to post a football player that plays for the last team above and then type a football team that starts with the last letter of the player they said ......  then the next member to reply with typing a player that plays for that team and also adding another football team that starts with the last letter of the player they said ,and so on...

Just two rules: NO repeating football players that have already been said(unless you really can't think of another beginning with the same letter), and players need to be currently with the team.

Players and teams can be from any league or country.....  Can you please post the team you are replying to aswell.

    e.g...
first person: Birmingham City(posted above) - Paul Caddis

                        Scunthorpe United

next person: Scunthorpe United - Gary McSheffrey

                         Yeovil Town

    --------------------------------------------------

    The football team to start with is;

    Walsall

Heres the original topic if you want to compare your previous count.

  22. Question for @RayTrew.

Have the board set a 'on the gate' pricing structure as of yet? What processes do you need to go through to come up with the charge per person? eg Does the drop to League 2 play heavily on the decision?

  23. Hello folks, and welcome to the 11th episode of Pride of Nottingham’s PONcast, Notts County's number one podcast.
