So sad to hear that Trevor Francis has died aged 69. The first million pound footballer.

Condolences to his family and friends.

It’s saddening to see such an icon of football pass away at the age of 69. My thoughts go out to his family and friends. Rest in peace, Trevor Francis.

Rest in peace, Trevor Francis. Compared to some players who go for a lot more, I think he’s proven he was worth the money. It’s such a shame to see a legend of the game go. :(

I remember watching Channel5, when I would have been like 14 or 15. On it, was one of those top 50 programmes, "Top 50 moments that shocked the Footballing World".

I don't know if @super_ram remembers this.

To my surprise they didn't mention Tommy Lawton signing for Notts, but they did mention Trevor Francis signing for Nottingham Forest for £1m. I think the signing really did shock the world. Rest in peace, Trevor Francis.

Rest in peace, Trevor Francis. You were an incredibly talented player. Francis was a legendary footballer who played for some of the best clubs in England. Unfortunately, Notts missed out with signing him but I can appreciate his ability.

Before my time, I remember him doing some punditry but nonetheless it's sad news. Rest in peace.

My thoughts go out to his family with this sad news, too early in life to pass away.

No, I don't recall that programme at all. I do remember Brian Clough telling Trevor Francis to take his hands out of his pockets at a football awards ceremony though.

Condolences to his family and friends, rest in peace Trevor Francis.

Trevor Francis scored the winner against Malmo in the 1979 European Cup Final. He was in the team when they retained the trophy in 1980. He's a Forest legend. Chris Bart Williams passed away yesterday as well. Another player who was loved by Forest fans. He won the First Division with Forest in 1998. May Trevor and Chris rest in peace.

RIP. My main memory of Trevor Francis was a most theatrical fall when Mark Draper tugged his shirt and won Sheffield Wednesday a penalty at Hillsborough

Rest in peace, Trevor Francis. As a player, I always felt he was overrated, but I don’t deny he contributed to football. It’s also saddening to see him leave this world aged only 69.

I personally always wondered what Cloughie saw in him, the £1m fee just seemed inflated at the time it was hard to justify. Now that far less talented players have been sold multiple times over, I am inclined to think differently. He was a good player on his day.

Rest in peace, Trevor Francis.
