On 29/07/2023 at 23:10, Joshua said:It sounds like it’s just an excuse not to play him. How would Macaulay Langstaff have an issue with fatigue? If it’s an injury, it’s exactly that, but combining the two is just funny. It sounded like Notts could have upped their game at times but didn’t.
When you become fatigued you are more likely to get an injury, and things that you would normally ignored can develop into something worse. My bet is that is what is happening here. These guys are proper athletes, but I bet they have been beasted these last few weeks, so if there are signs that a bit of rest is in order, then I can imagine the backroom team will be right on it.
I can see Rawlo mainly being used against more physical sides this season, he just isn’t mobile enough for a high line game and I’d fully expect Brindley to be playing on the right of a three until Tipton is up to speed. A back three of Cameron, Baldwin, Tipton would give me more confidence (although Cameron isn’t the quickest either) of not being caught out with the ball over the top.
Shrews fans were on the whole very complimentary about our side and play, they thought both offside goals were a little dubious, especially the second and were lucky to come out of the game with a draw.
Looking forward to seeing the first starting XI of the season on Saturday as I am struggling to name one.
On 29/07/2023 at 22:26, Fan of Big Tone said:According to Luke Williams Langstaff and Randall had a fatigue injury whatever one of those is.
Neither were serious.
I looked it up, supposedly it’s when a player has a slight knock on a muscle caused by playing, training a lot or both.

What weekend plans have we all got this weekend? Let PoN know what you’re up to or what you have been up to this weekend.
Today we are waiting in for a special delivery of Notts shirts. @George L has opted for the home shirt but his younger brother Fred is having a training top. After spending £90 on them I can’t afford one for me.
I actually prefer to wear my 20 year old shirt my two sons bought me for my 50th.
Saturday I’ll be doing my usual park run in the morning and in the afternoon I’ll be taking Mrs. T to the QMC to have an Echo Cardiogram so that’ll be fun (not). I’ll have an eye on the result at Shrewsbury of course.

I wanted to start a discussion about Luther Munakandafa and Lucien Mahovo, two of our professional young players. Do you think they will feature in our plans for this season, or do you believe it would be better to loan them out to another team for development?
I’m curious to hear your thoughts on this matter. Let me know what you think in the comments below.

In the olden days when @super_ram and myself were alive, it used to cost one penny to use a public toilet, in fact @super_ram can probably remember when it was a groat!
This last week whilst on holiday in Scarborough me and my wife wanted to use the toilet and it was 40p each! That’s 8 shilling to us old farts.

So a few months ago, I started a recruitment document on Excel. Now we've been promoted I've updated this. In my opinion we need to be looking at a keeper, one or two centre backs, a left wing back, two centre mids, and an extra attacking threat. Plus Jodi Jones. The question marks regarding when a player's contact ends, indicates that I can't find any info regarding when that player's contract is up. N/A for contracts obviously means, they don't have a contract because they are a free agent and don't have a club.

It would be lovely if everyone who reads this could take a moment to post a comment, even if it’s just a brief paragraph. I’m curious to know if anyone got up to anything exciting during the close season and if people are starting to look ahead to the new campaign. There’s a lot of excitement surrounding our return to the EFL, which I’m determined to enjoy no matter what happens. I’ll be happy just to be back watching teams like Tranmere Rovers, Bradford City, and Walsall.
During the close season, I didn’t do anything particularly special, but it did seem to drag on at the time. Now that we’re in pre-season, everything has accelerated.

It’s a tricky subject to discuss, but let’s keep this respectful. I am surprised that FIFA hasn’t followed suit with the Olympics. When transgender athletes first started taking part, I always thought that it would be a slippery slope because, despite their transition, they still have an advantage over females. I am all for supporting people, no matter what their sex is or what a person may identify as. I don’t care if people are straight, gay, etc. Likewise with race, I don’t have an issue with it and I wish more people would be open-minded in this regard.
However, I am still torn on the decision to include a transgender player in the women’s World Cup. Part of me thinks it’s great that the Canadian team has embraced their teammate, but the other half worries that this will only put the sport at a disadvantage and therefore incur the wrath we have seen in other sports for including transgender people, only to backtrack and say they can’t.
QuoteIn their opening match against Nigeria, Canada midfielder Quinn became the first out transgender player at a Fifa World Cup. Like their style of play, it was done with minimal fuss.
Quinn is a key part of Canada's midfield, their place as the midfield anchor crucial as the Olympic champions aim to add the 2023 Fifa Women's World Cup trophy to their cabinet.
They played the full 90 minutes against Nigeria. The result was a goalless draw - but the Canadian number five's role created history.
Quinn came out as non-binary in September 2020, dropping their old first name, asking to be known only by a mononym - a name composed of only one word - and saying they would use the pronouns 'they/them'.
They have been an important figure for the national set-up since making their senior international debut in 2014, when they became team-mates with players who had shown them there was a future in football.

While I don’t believe Alfreton performed exceptionally well, I wouldn’t describe them as “poor”. I believe the quality displayed by Notts made it challenging for them. Alfreton could have been more adept with the ball, but it was evident that the training Notts had undergone paid off. We pressed and were eager to regain possession, and the team delivered a fantastic performance. Macaulay Langstaff seemed likely to score given our direct passes to him, and David McGoldrick’s outstanding effort was a joy to behold.
The game was very good. Notts played in such a way that they struggled, and credit to Alfreton, they acknowledged how good of a team we were. I don’t think they had much chance to get going because we wanted the ball so much. It’s difficult to defend, and what made it worse for Alfreton is that we fielded such a strong squad with the intention of giving them longer in the game.
The performance of Notts was one of determination, but I wouldn’t criticise Alfreton too much. We are two levels above them and played direct football against the best of the National League, which other teams in the same league struggled with. Alfreton have made a fair few signings, so I would take more note of how Notts played.
In your opinion, which of these young scholars do you think possesses the most promising potential to succeed in Notts and make a name for themselves in the world of football? Are there any particular qualities or achievements that stand out to you, or any specific examples of their work that you find particularly impressive?
Let’s have a lively and engaging discussion about the future of our youth scholars and the potential they hold for making significant impact in football.

On Saturday Notts travel to Shrewsbury for a pre season friendly. How many links can we find between the two clubs, players, managers etc.
Here’s one to start Arthur Mann he played for Notts between 1972-1979 making 253 appearances and scoring 21 goals, in 1979 he moved to Shrewsbury and made 8 appearances scoring 1 goal.
How many more can we find?

the 72 are at it again, however, rather than purely making them up as they go along. the 'realistically' emphasis is solely going on players frequently mentioned by notts fans. ????
jesse debrah and sam pearson are the players.

I wasn’t at the match, but it seems like Boston heavily marked our players to the point where three or so of them were going in to clear the ball away from us. Domination is a good thing, even if we only won by one goal. It’s another valuable insight ahead of the upcoming season.
I wasn't at the game either, but listening to Lukes post match talk I gathered they parked the bus as per Yeovil.
Having a run out to Alfreton tonight. COYP.
Boston sounded like a very good test. It deserves credit to shut out a team that plays good football, and it says a lot about both teams. Winning 1-0 isn’t a bad thing at all. The fact that we managed to score is the positive part, along with the relentless pushing for the scoring opportunity. It could have easily led to frustration and a lapse in concentration, resulting in them having fewer chances on goal but claiming the win.
