What do you think of this signing? Do you feel more defensive cover will help the magpies', share your views below.

A field where dreams become reality.

Don’t know much about him but I’m sure he will do the job just fine. In all fairness Neil’s signings have been pretty sound so far I’m sure Alex will prove to be the same. Looking forward to seeing him in action.

I think the signing makes sense, we don’t need a lot from the transfer market but a defender does add cover.

Hopefully, he can help Notts push on.

Oh oh oh ohhhhh, everywhere where we go, watching super County putting on a show!

Previous league experience. Was unlucky at Gills with injuries. Sounds like Gills fans liked him.

Understandable to add a centre-back to the ranks as we need cover there heading into the part of the season, where the fixtures are stacking up again cos of the cup competitions and and where the pitches become bobbly meaning injuries can become more frequent.

People will moan that Bird isn’t the first choice replacement at centre back but in my view we are definitely pushing for promotion and Ardley doesn’t want lo leave anything to chance if Rawlinson or Turner get injured. Bird will get his chance I’m sure but getting back into the league must be the priority. This new lad will only be good for the club as a whole, I just hope the budget can stand it !

If the lad is better than Bird, then I have no complaints about his signing and we probably do need another centre half in all honesty.

I'm struggling to see now where we can really improve massively on this squad (for this level), especially when JOB returns. I think it is now just a case of keeping everyone fit and finding the right midfield balance.

think its fair to say that bird has done well when given a chance.

i dont mind who plays or who signs provided that the clubs interest is in mind and its progressing, if the signing caused issues then i might view it differently. we need to be better, hopefully this signings does that.

This sounds a really impressive signing, the type of player I'd expect to see in the first eleven. Prior to Gillingham he was at Yeovil (winning player of the year there) and was part of Luton's promotion-winning team. He was a free agent because he was lined up for a contract at Bury, then obviously end up empty-handed. He's 26, a good age for a footballer. And, given that he was a free agent in November, he probably isn't exactly breaking the budget either. All positives from me.

It leaves us with four centre-halves and two left-backs. Nice and balanced. Now we just need to get the best out of them.

I will reserve my judgement.

On paper it seems to be an exciting signing, if fans moan about Pierce Birds absence from the squad. Well, I would think this would motivate any player to be noticed.

Luton, Yeovil and Gillingham, with minor spells elsewhere.

It does look good on paper.

Reading his wiki page, it says he's played as a "defensive midfielder", Neal Ardley has spoken about wanting players who can be utilise in different positions.

Has Alex Lacey even made a first team appearance yet? I am a bit baffled why Neal Ardley signed him, yet hasn't given him a run out. With the defensive issues as of late, Lacey might be a good addition to the squad.

"Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value."

Surely he should start ahead of Rawlinson? Turner might struggle at times, but he seems to be the best mentor for Lacey.

When people ask what 'American Pie' is about, they're missing the point. The song isn't about the lines themselves - it's about what is between the lines. The song is about what isn't there.

How did Alex Lacey do in his debut? Can anyone tell me?
