  4. Saturday's Fixtures:
Brighton & Hove Albion v Norwich City
Preston North End v Newcastle United
    Rochdale v Oldham Athletic
    Walsall v Coventry City
    Barnet v Hartlepool United
    Yeovil Town v Grimsby Town

  5. Collin - 5.5 more assured, still with odd lapse on decision making

Laing - 6 - Good tackle early on, comfortable on the ball

Duffy - 5.5 - Still slow at times and occasionally caught out of position
Hollis - 7.5 nice to be able to give good marks to Haydn MoM
    Dickinson - 5.5 - An OK performance

Rodman - 5.5 - Only appeared with confidence late on. Still unsure if he is any good

Richards - 6 - Slowly goes about his work and gives defence protection

Milsom -6 - Solid in midfield

Forte - 7 - Got stronger as game went on.

Campbell - 5 - All effort no creativity nor end result
Collins - 5.5 - Missed a good chance,  and  header cleared off the line.

Oliver - 7 Still was unsure of his confidence on the penalty. Just don't think he is a natural goal scorer

O'Connor - 5.5  I am still waiting to see what the fuss is about. Hot and cold performance.

  6. A play-off clash, if you can call it that this early in the season.

Alan Sheehan returns, and had a few nice words to say about his time with us:

It's nice that he won't celebrate if he scores, though I'd rather you do us another favour Sheez and don't score at all, unless it's in your own net.

  7. It's a bit quiet here. It's a bit difficult to moan about things when you're sixth. I think a massive punch-up in the fans' forum initiated by John Sheridan would provide a few talking points.

Anyway ... see thread title. What do you all do for a living?

I'm a translator for German to English, doing everything from technical manuals to adverts and books.

  8. JS - “You don’t have to play great, but if you go out there on the front foot and show some desire you get a buzz around the supporters.."

Fingers crossed that's what we see tomorrow. COYP

The announcement of Cardiff parting company with their manager

    http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/live-updates-cardiff-city-boss-11975415

Just proves the fact that throwing money at a football club, if not spent wisely, can result in disaster.

Michael Johnson and **** Bate are on Cardiff's backroom staff.

For Notts, I mentioned on another thread about the importance of the scouting network... I often wonder if it was an unsung scouting hero that spotted Grealish and McGregor. Is that scout still at Notts? @erindoors

    Stan Collymore's tweet:

Man City. 52 scouts worldwide. Villa. 5. And 4 are analysts. Infrastructure. Infrastructure. Infrastructure.

  10. We are sixth in November! Where did you expect us to be at this time of the year?

  11. As I won't be able to go to the lifeline meet the manager nor am I a hack for a media outlet I would like someone to ask our manager why Alex Rodman keeps getting a game before either Aaron Collins or Genaro Snijders or even the tea lady to be compeltely frank as we are always playing with ten men in the games I have attended this season.

For me the management team get so much right but why he gets a game is beyond me

  12. This new book from Paul Mace sounds quite interesting ... Martin Allen made a motivational video on the banks of the Trent at 5am on the morning of the F*rest match. Dragging a club employee along to shoot it. It was cold apparently.

    http://www.nottinghampost.com/former-notts-county-manager-martin-allen-waded-into-the-river-trent-at-5am-to-motive-teaam/story-29839689-detail/story.html

I wonder if that video is still lurking in a cupboard at Meadow Lane?

  13. The scorer of the greatest team goal in world cup history has passed after a heart attack aged 72.

Was part of the best team the world had to offer at that stage, says an awful lot about his quality.

    Will never forget that goal

  14. Saturday's Fixtures:
    Aston Villa v Fulham
    Wolverhampton Wanderers v Leeds United
    Bradford City v Sheffield United
    Gillingham v Charlton Athletic
    Exeter City v Cambridge United
    Newport County v Plymouth Argyle

  15. Game 14 - Pompey (A)

    Team: Portsmouth

    Date: 22/10/16

    Where: Fratton Park

What line-up should John Sheridan opt for? What will be the key areas for the Magpies to get a victory? What do you think the final score will be?

Great result, 'Total commitment from Notts' according to CS, which is good to hear!

Good to see Notts were wearing the black and stripes, hope that continues if kits don't clash.

Any match ratings from those who went?

We get results, then the support is lifted (which is what the club needs) - then a series of stale performances and it goes back.

Fantastic result, those who write off Adam Campbell will have seen a glimpse that he can be a goalscorer. Let's hope my first part is the last of it and that all the players continue to progress. Did Campbell play as a striker or on the wing?

  16. Boreham Wood away , first round for the pies , thoughts , let's hope for better than last year .

  17. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/oct/19/nottingham-forest-owner-hasawi-salary-player-bonuses

Snouts in the trough comes to mind - although I'm not sure that this is actually that unusual in football. I seem to remember that Derek Pavis got himself a nice deal upon leaving too. But at least we achieved something under him!

Also interesting that the players discussed not training due to the fridge magnate paying them late...

  18. Good replay win aet at Gateshead. Now home to Newport in first round. Notts v Alfreton in round 2 would be good!

  19. There's many classic TV shows from what is often described as the golden era, the 80's and 90's gave us some brilliant shows and although these days we have the 'Game of Thrones' among some other popular shows - its just not the same. Its mostly 'quick' and 'cheerful' and the days of entertaining game shows is long gone.

However, I sat watching 'The Wonder Years' the other night on my laptop and it made me miss some of the older gems.

Murder She Wrote - I love this, for me its one of the better American series of that period (if not the best). The acting can be quirky, the story line can have holes but Dame Angela Lansbury is the glue that keeps everything entertaining.

I miss game shows like Bulls Eye, mind watching past shows makes me laugh at the prizes. The Price is Right and even Catchphrase are also within the list of things I miss.

I could name a whole lot more but people have probably given up reading at this stage.

What TV shows do you miss? Have a go at naming one and don't do any of this 'I'm not talking about this'. Just give it ago, we are a community and sometimes it's discussions like this that gives more of an insight into the poster. Plus its fun to reminisce, you never know - someone else here might be a huge fan of the show you liked.

  20. Collin 6 – good reactions to save on the line, better distribution.
Audel 6 – competes well and offers something going forwards.
Duffy 6 – solid, no nonsense defending.
Laing 7* - much better against a less physical strikeforce. Started attacks with some good forward runs.
Milsom 6 – steady and reliable.
Rodman 4.5 – offers nothing at all in a creative sense, we were much better without him.
Richards 6 – nothing fancy, but doesn’t waste the ball much.
Tootle 6 – good recovery from his nightmare on Tuesday, needs to think a bit quicker.
Forte 6 – a bit mixed but stuck at it and managed a goal.
Campbell 5 – can’t fault his effort or willingness to be involved, but he has this uncanny knack of missing the rectangle between pitch, posts and crossbar.
Stead 6 – did his best with minimal service.

Collins 7 – still raw and may take the wrong option sometimes, but a serious attacking threat. Deserves a starting place.
Snijders 7 – gave us width, pace and trickery. Has to be a better option than Rodman.

A sterile game for 75 minutes, an exciting game for the last bit. Hopefully today has shown Sheridan that we do have a few creative attacking options, not sure if we can use them all in away games where we’re doing ok, but for home games they are a must.

  21. Game 13 - The Railwaymen (H)

    Team: Crewe Alexandra

    Date: 15/10/16

    Where: Meadow Lane

I was keeping an eye on SSN yesterday. Delighted when Notts went 1 up. Turned my back and missed the Crewe goal. Actually thought Sky had made a mistake!

I only noticed hours after the game that we had drawn 1-1, I went out with my family and bumped into a Stags fan who Noticed my Notts coat and he delightfully told me 'We beat you'. My response 'But did you win today?' He said they drew like us.

Good point really, though from the sounds of it the performance didn't really match the effort of @Football in the Community.

I have nothing but praise for their fantastic effort.

Yet again the energy for Notts comes from off the bench. Genaro did more in the few minutes he was on than Rodman has done all season.
Hopefully JS will now realise that it's no good having an experienced side if there is no energy or urgency within it and that comes from having some youth and pace on the field.
