Aidan Stone leaving Notts just leaves the Club with two senior goalkeepers.

Not much time for Notts before the January transfer window closes. With just two senior goalkeepers at the Club it does leave Notts at risk if one or both their goalkeepers become injured.

Notts could of course, bring in a goalkeeper in an emergency loan deal if they did lose a goalkeeper to injury, but they won't have much control in who they may get in.

i think we can rely on sam slocombe until the end of the season, no point signing another keeper imo.

i would have rather seen stone kept as our back, because i think he could have shown improvements with our defence now. not that is dislike slocombe but hes at the end of his career now.

The top six clubs in English Football always seem to be untouchable from any possible sanctions that may be considered for possible wrongdoings.

Any other club that steps out of line or even inadvertently breaks the rules, always seem to get almost instant justice, either by a points deduction or a large fine.

I don't think that even a football regulator would be able to touch the untouchables.

Ever noticed that little timestamp on posts showing how long members have been part of the Pride of Nottingham? Makes you wonder, doesn’t it, how many of us actually remember joining and just how long we've been lingering around here.Β

I joined over a decade ago, but it feels like it was only yesterday. I was drawn in by the enticing prospect of chatting about Notts and the refreshing notion of reasonable discussions. Since then, things have changed mostly for the better, and I still can’t quite wrap my head around the fact that I’ve been part of this community for ten years.

Time really does have wings, doesn’t it? Through the highs and lows of supporting Notts County, we’ve shared so many moments within this incredible community. Here's to many more! πŸŽ‰

  • I have been a member since January 2017, so 8 years now. The community has always been welcoming, supportive, and focused on healthy discussion. In my early teens, I decided I would like to write about sports. I have found PON to be very influential in my development, and I look back on my university years, seeing this site thrive.

People might not always agree, but we need to remember that we want the best for each other and not at the expense of the site itself. I am passionate about the community, just as much as I am about writing.

I joined on the 22nd of August 2023. I have been a long-time reader of the content published by the Pride of Nottingham, which I find excellent. I do not get involved much with the forum side of things, but I enjoy talking about Notts and reading discussions. Any area where I can provide a detailed and worthwhile comment inspires me to contribute. I do not like adding a comment if I feel I cannot add to the context or points. From time to time, I visit the forum, and I see something where I feel a comment would be worth adding.

Although I have not been a member for very long, I have read the site for as long as some of you have been members. I understand that it is difficult to maintain something like this, but I miss the content and articles put out on the home page.

I have no plans to abandon Twitter, at all.

As the very first Notts fan and fan account to join Threads, I take great pride in this milestone. I realise that social media isn't going anywhere, but with fans making home to networks such as Blue Sky - I believe it warrants a PON account. This has been encouraged by @ARLukomski, which at first I wasn't all that taken to doing but in hindsight it does seem to be as equal to Threads.

You can follow Pride of Nottingham on Blue Sky here.

I openly acknowledge that the site, and social media channels have been quiet, but this is for personal reasons. I greatly appreciate your understanding. My aim is to ensure Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Threads and Blue Sky are all different in some form.

Which I would also like to mention, that within the new year I plan to open a discord server that will be more for updating the community here on site related downtime, maintenance, articles, news etc.

Due to the hacking incident, and even before that I am anxious about sharing sensitive information outright on social media channels.

  • Twitter was my go to social media platform but due to the toxic feel of the platform I decided to leave a while ago. I have been tempted to go back on it but then I realise why I left it in the first place. Just like @liampieΒ said, there are people on there just looking for reactions and it seems like that's all they're on there for rather than discussing, debating or having conversation. Also like @ChrisΒ said, people used the platform just to gain a following and often looked down on people with lesser followers which led to them mocking them just because of the lack of followers they had.Β

Blue Sky has caught my interest about joining but when I first heard about it, I thought it was Twitter 2.0 but after reading some of the comments on this post, I might be tempted to join.

Is it still worth joining? It would be great to have a social media platform once again where you can engage with people without having the issues you quite often experience on twitter when it comes to commenting or posting.Β

It's good to see you, @KB1862. I haven't committed to BlueSky, but I think it's much better than X. People are more willing to discuss and be part of the community. There are a lot fewer cliques or people who think they are above others, that's for sure.

After reading and replying to Fan of Big Tone's discussion about Stuart Maynard having been in his role for a year, I thought further about my response and whilst I don't want this to come across as ripping into Maynard's ability, I do think there's room to talk about how he can improve further. I do feel it's important that we acknowledge where he has come from, what he's achieved so far with us and that he will still be learning his role in a much bigger environment than he has previously held.

I have listed some general areas where I believe he can, and at times is showing a better understanding. I do wonder what the community thinks, especially from more Maynard out supporters.

  • Player Rotation: Maynard could focus on better rotation of players to avoid over-reliance on key players like David McGoldrick. This would give other players, more opportunities to contribute and develop, while also managing their fitness and health.
  • Consistency in Selection: It’s important for Maynard to avoid frequently switching back to previous players and disregarding current form. Giving consistent playing time to in-form players can help maintain their performance levels and confidence.
  • Adaptability in Substitutions: Maynard should work on the timing and manner of making substitutions. Avoiding late and all-at-once changes, and making more gradual and strategic substitutions during the game can help maintain the team's momentum and better manage player fitness.
  • Maximizing Player Potential: Maynard needs to focus on understanding each player's strengths and positioning them where they can perform best. For example, Cedwyn ScottΒ [whilst he was here] may perform better as a striker rather than an attacking midfielder, which should be considered in team selection.
  • Handling Underperforming Players: Rather than sidelining underperforming players like Kellan Gordon, Maynard could work on ways to help them regain their form and confidence, possibly through tailored coaching and support.
  • In-game Decision Making: Improving in-game decision-making, especially against teams like Salford, by utilising strategies that counter the opponent's strengths. This might include leveraging speed and a more direct approach when necessary.
  • Learning from Mistakes: It’s crucial for Maynard to continue learning and adapting from his experiences. Recognizing when bold changes are needed versus when they may be detrimental to the team’s performance is key.

If we can rationalise and be fair, perhaps we can further see just how much Maynard has done better than we might feel, along with fair points about how he can improve.

As much as I agree with Jimmy over lots of things football wise, @PiethagoramΒ @Fan of Big Tone there are just two many variables in football to say that learning something from every game will stop a team losing.

All you can do is reduce the variables, but there always be an element of chance too.

@RobbieΒ How dare you question the word of The Messiah!Β :joker:

Stuart Maynard's biggest downfall is not knowing how to make in-game changes to put Notts on the front foot. He's slow at adapting, and sometimes it gets too late to get anything from games. We can dominate teams at home, but when they change things, we fall off. Even though we get good results, it sometimes costs us points.

He needs to be braver at times, and at other times he needs to take off players who aren't performing well enough. If a player continues to struggle after 45 minutes, and other teams exploit this, it makes no sense to hang on and avoid making changes. Football is about taking your chances. We focus too much on control. Possession isn't always the best tactic; creating and scoring chances is.

  • I agree with a lot that’s already been said, think we file that one under β€œfrustrating”. We had the chances but just didn’t take them. It was unfortunately for us a β€œclassic Bromley” performance, they just wanted that one chance and they got it (we gave it to them), they didn’t really trouble us for large parts of the match.

The fact so many teams visit Meadow Lane and think we can’t go toe-to-toe with these is a massive compliment, but at the same time we’ve got to make sure we punish teams that do just sit back and basically hope for the best. Whenever a well organised team has come to Meadow Lane this season we have struggled to break them down, we were much better than against the likes of Port Vale and Gillingham but we’ve got to be more ruthless in the future.

I’ve seen the Jatta chance back now, my initial reaction was that he should’ve had a shot, I’m even more convinced now! He actually had the ball under control, all he had to do was toe-poke it towards goal and it would’ve gone in. And then right at the end Whitaker had a chance to make himself an instant hero, a Bromley player would’ve buried that header…

Good morning, it’s a chilly start at 3 degrees, hopefully it will warm up later.

How is everyone? I guess we are all on a bit of a high after the excellent weekend win?

It’s not as bad here as further north of the country. I hope everyone stays safe wherever you are

Good morning cold and bright here, it’s matchday! I know I’m a whimp but I’m staying at home and listening, it’s going to be 5 degrees max, so probably -2 in the Pavis stand, I get chilled very easily these days, I’ll be glad when the weather gets warmer.

In other news we drove all the way out to junction 28 for Wagamama’s last night to celebrate grandson Fred’s birthday but there was an enormous queue outside so we went back home and had a Chinese takeaway and watched the final of Traitors. We don’t normally have Chinese food we prefer Indian but I was impressed it was very nice, especially that prawn sesame toast thing.

Why don’t Wagamama’s let you book a table? Ridiculous!

Anyway have a great day and COME ON YOU PIES!

    Good evening..

It's been a pleasant day here with plenty of sunshine. Pity about the result today, but our rivals for a promotion space, apart from Doncaster & Bradford who won, either drew or lost, so Notts didn't lose any ground today.

If Notts are to have a chance of automatic promotion, they have to keep Jatta.

  • The last time I remember Nottingham Forest being in the nose bleed area of the Premier League, with Liverpool doing well, was when Blackburn Rovers won the title. Manchester United were enjoying better days back then.

I still can't get over them being 14th in the table now. It makes you realise just how far they have fallen behind so many other teams. Newcastle United are only doing well because of their takeover. Still, I'd much rather see them doing well.

Fair play to the likes of Bournemouth, Fulham, and Aston Villa.

All the top four won this weekend 18,19/01/25, apart from Arsenal.

Man City have recovered from their poor form & are now challenging for a Champions League place.

Forest win again. That's 8 games without defeat now. Can they continue their excellent form?

  • it could be anything, they might be moving into management themselves and used their move to notts to attract interest from clubs. they could have been at the wealdstone game scouting, maynard might have asked them to watch the game. they could have had a falling out, or own owners may believe they are not suitable for our level. there are many ways we could speculate on this, but until notts confirms any news i personally dont see the fuss.

Wealdstone FC can confirm that First Team Manager Matt Taylor has left the club to take up the Head Coach role at Solihull Moors. This follows the activation of the release clause in Matt’s contract...

An interesting development today... Could be purely coincidental, but it would perhaps give a reason as to why the Saunders Brothers were there last Saturday.

Still nothing from Notts this week though and I don't think any probing questions about the situation were asked in Stuart's pre-match press conference.

Hmm, the plot thickens, it’s seems too much of a coincidence in my opinion but we will see.

With the exception of the Reedtz era, and the fire sales of Notts youngsters Bearne and Etete... when did we last sell a 1st team player for serious money?

Ben Davies, January 2011 to Derby County.

That says a lot about the state of our recruitment.Β

Open to question, if you can think of another one pre the Reedtz era?

  • I am sure that there are Plan B's in place. Current squad, Bass is the one that is irreplaceable.

With season ticket sales part of the financial equation, Notts need to keep hold of the best players now... selling Jata now would impact on next season ticket sales, so I don't think the Board will take that risk

    Β

Bialkowski went to Ipswich for free but with a clause that if Ipswich had got promoted to the Prem we would've got some money. So basically we gambled and lost there. We barely had players move up the leagues pre-Reedtz brothers, that's how shocking our recruitment was!

We are sadly going to be a victim of our own success in terms of recruitment, assuming it keeps being as good as it has been. The reality is if a player is really good he'll move on and up as we can't compete with what clubs higher up can offer wage wise. We will at least be compensated with a large fee which can than be used on a replacement.

I think we do have to strike a balance though, because losing too many key players at once will inevitably have knock on effect on the pitch. For me I think losing 2 key players in one season is the limit and in Langstaff and Crowley that has happened. If Jatta is to move on, it will be a lot easier to replace him and integrate his replacement over the summer. Losing him and getting a firing replacement in about a week is a massive challenge, probs even one that's a step to far for us.
