  1. Pilling - 1 - It wasn't just one thing. He's small, Chesterfield identified that and piled the pressure on and he couldn't cope. He has to stop the goal. Kicking awful and taking lots of risks with the ball at his feet, at one point trying (unsuccessfully) to dribble past their striker. Stockport will target him.

Kelly-Evans - 4 - Part of a back 4 bullied by Chesterfield in the first half.
    Rawlinson - 4 - As above.
Lacey - 3 - The worst of the back 4. Hoofing to nobody first half.

    Miller - 3.5 - He's still not a defender. Crap distribution.

    Doyle - 3 - Too slow.
Reeves - 3 - Too slow and not enough quality.

Rodrigues - 2 - Incredibly poor. Lost the ball repeatedly. Delivery never beat the first man.
Enzio - 6 - The only one who escapes that **** show with any credibility. Beat his man, final ball lacking.

    Sam - 3 - He's not good enough.

Wootton - 4.5 - He was OK. Linked up some play, missed half chances (didn't even contact the ball).

    Knowles - 4 - Rubbish
    Effiong - 2 - Donkey.

Ardley's tactics - 0 - Awful. 3 immobile centre backs and Ardley's first half tactic: hoof it up to the three tree trunks. Surprisingly they dealt with that easily.

  2. I didn't see the automatic topic for this game so I have added it.

There's a saying you can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig. So I can say nice things about Kings Lynn but the truth is, they are a poor side at this level. They have lost their last 3 games. They have conceded 38 goals in 18 games. That's 24 more goals than Notts have conceded in the same number of games! They took the cover off the pitch and the surface looks well which will suit Notts's style of play. I'm going for 3-0 to Notts.

  3. Hi again - alleviate some of those lockdown blues by predicting some scores. You know you want to. Kick-off is 3pm on Saturday, and you get a joker each!

  5. Since early 2013, the Pride of Nottingham has flourished as a fan site dedicated to Notts County Football Club.

I'm pleased to say that our host has assisted us with moving to a brand-new server, which performs a lot better than our previous one. The migration didn't take as long as thought, however, DNS propagation is still happening in some parts of the world.

The majority of visitors will be absolutely fine, with the UK, Germany, United States, Ireland and Italy all being settled.

Our old server had reached its end of life in terms of support, so the move was crucial to keeping things smooth.

Please be patient if you experience any downtime.

  6. Pilling 7 The odd dodgy moment but pulled out a first class save when it mattered

DKE 6.5 Industrious but couldnt make the higher up play matter

Rawlinson 7.5 MotM Put the head where it mattered

Lacey 6 a quieter game but another clean sheet

Barrett 6.5 Stepped into left back role effortlessly. Had more room up field than DKE though some crosses could and should have been better

Doyle 6.5 more apparent how he makes space to receive the ball to get things moving

Reeves 7 a wonder strike matched by the work rate

Rodrigues 5.5 Marked by 2 players so getting room to play was difficult for him

Enzio 5.5 Needed more creative thrust. Seemed to lose possession when getting close to their area

Knowles 5 Found it difficult to get into the game at times

Wootton 6.5 More points for hold up play than goal threat, missed one golden chance with a free header

  7. during a recent interview when inoh effiong arrived at meadow lane, he mentioned that he can hold the ball up but is a different player than just someone who just holds play up. he mentioned that he likes to create space for others by using his own movement which make me think that its something notts does not really do much at the moment.

we are far to direct imo, i think we miss cal roberts wanting to rip the pitch up and being direct.

enzio when hes able to take on players and supply that perfect assist.

so i ask, how can neal ardley get the best out of the chances we create? how do you think notts could be more creative on goal?

  8. Be careful: Kings Lynn chairman is on twitter asking for somebody to operate their cameras for the streaming service (for free). Something to consider before you give them your money, it might not even be on.

Their chairman seems like a tinpot Alan Hardy.

  9. Opinions? Will the move to 6pm help the game or will we all be sitting there  at around 5pm checking Twitter to see the inevitable...not what we wanted but...

  10. Pity no camera angel on the other side of the net for Ruben's goal, it looks like his shot was moving through the air.

    Quality goals to appreciate

  11. Game 25 - Red Dragons (A)

    Team: Wrexham

    Date: 13/02/2021

    Where: Racecourse Ground

What line-up should Neal Ardley opt for? What will be the key areas for the Magpies to get a victory? What do you think the final score will be?

Wrexham away is in the top 5 most difficult fixtures in this league. It will be a real test for Notts. Wrexham are on a 5 game unbeaten run. Normally you'd be happy with a point at Wrexham and I'd take that to keep the momentum going. The title is still up for grabs so avoiding defeat would be huge. Having said that, I think Notts will win 2-1 and what a statement that will be.

    2. Piethagoram

      Piethagoram

I fear missing Sam Slocombe could be crucial. Defence will need to step up to protect Pilling especially.

  12. Game 24 - Daggers (H)

    Team: Dagenham & Redbridge

    Date: 09/02/2021

    Where: Meadow Lane

I think Kelly-Evans would be my last choice. Absolutely fearless, but I’d be shooting from the halfway line if I saw him in goal!

I know what you mean, first thought is to get someone bigger there but the likes of Rawlinson and Wootton are too influential. Considering the formation we switched too Doyle ended up being the ideal choice.

No way, Kelly-Evans may be only 5 feet tall, but he's 10 feet tall when he jumps!  When Rodrigues took the green shirt first, I thought it was the best option because he seemed to have the height and agility.  What do I know?  If he had gone between the sticks we wouldn't have seen that stunning second goal.

Well that was rather pleasant, wasn't it?! Leaving two up front and staying positive was definitely the right decision, but to be fair it was also the only decision - parking the bus for 70 plus minutes with an outfield player in goal would have just been an invitation for the visitors to pepper the area with crosses and shots. Great stuff from the whole team. Meadow Lane would have been bouncing.

I hope we can take some momentum from this, and fingers crossed for Luke Pilling in goal over the next few games (those FA Trophy appearances should come in handy now). Unless Schmeichel Doyle wants another go? :D

Looking at the table, we're now 11 points behind Torquay with 4 games in hand. In terms of points per game, we're potentially a win away from catching them. And PPG could matter this season.

very good result, when slocombe got sent off i thought it would end in defeat or a draw at the least.

ruben did very well to smash his goal in, kyle is starting to crop up where needed but his 2nd was a stunner in its own right. i thought doyle did well in goal, perhaps not as much as some keep banging on but if it annoys dagenham then it worth it. great result.

  13. Slocombe - 2 - I have a great deal of sympathy for him. It's a poor touch, but he should be told there's a man near. He doubles down on that error and dives in, trying to rectify his mistake. The bottom line is, however, he gave away a penno and got himself sent off after 16 minutes, hence the rating.

DKE - 9 - Charlie Slater: "That is the most DKE tackle I've ever seen" 😄😄

Rawlinson - 9 - Epitomised the team effort by sprinting out like a man on speed to the edge of the box to close down an incoming shot.
    Lacey - 9 - Hero.

Barnett - 9 - Slotted in like he's played there the whole season. Athletic, fast. Keen to see more of him in a 'normal' game.

Enzio - 9 - Really in form. Dangerous going forward and apparently he can even play centre mid.

Reeves - 9 - In the opening few minutes he played a terrible pass and I thought 'oh here we go'. From then on in he absolutely bossed the midfield, sometimes on his own.

Rodrigues - 9.5 - Criticised his shooting the last few weeks and then he unleashes that rocket. Some may say the keeper should get there, maybe he should, but there's some bend on that shot. As close to a perfect performance as you're gonna see.

Wootton - 9 - Beautifully curled in the third, never in doubt. Won an incredible amount in the air and it was nice to see somebody with a bit of pace alongside him.

Knowles - 9 - Offers something different that nobody else really gives us (probably apart from Thomas who has left). He is direct, pacey and sometimes a little naiive, but it was  nice to see what he can offer us.

Schmeichel Doyle 'The Monk' - 10 - 84 year old Michael Doyle, 4 foot nothing, makes his debut as a goalkeeper. What a guy. His complete shithousery probably gets in the head of their striker taking the penalty.

  14. Wes Thomas has left the building. He hadn't been playing, and had been training on his own due to the COVID-19 situation. Now, inevitably, he's asked the club to terminate his contract, which Notts have reluctantly accepted. He played 38 games in the famous black and white and occasionally green, and scored 10 goals. All the best to him for the future.

That leaves us with Wootton, Effiong, Sam and Knowles up front. Do we need to get active in the transfer market?

  15. Hello you beautiful black and white people! Another bunch of fixtures for the prediction league kick off at 3pm on Saturday. You get one joker each!

    Barnsley v Derby County

    Millwall v Sheffield Wednesday

    Ipswich Town v Blackpool

    Peterborough United v Crewe Alexandra

    Scunthorpe United v Oldham Athletic

    Crawley Town v Harrogate Town

    Eastleigh v Solihull Moors

    Maidenhead United v Boreham Wood

  16. It was quite an eventful cup tie and one Notts made hard work of.

Havant, to their credit, pressed us well and had good energy levels despite not playing for a while.

Notts got it down the wings quite a few times in the first half and it was our best opportunity of opening Havant up. It worked for the first goal and we got in numerous times down both flanks but they came to nothing. Chicksen could've had two before half time. His 2nd effort really should have ended in a goal. Poor connection with the ball after taking a touch and then trying to lob the keeper after a good ball from Lacey. Miller should've also scored when he was in acres of space and somehow took about 250 years to shoot.

I didn't think Jim O'Brien had a good game. Lost the ball too much and when there was space to go into, he passed backwards. Matty Wolfe's runs from deep helped us and that's what one of the centre midfielders (whoever starts) should be doing more. Jimmy Knowles put himself about and his run contributed to the first goal and then he scored the penalty to equalise. The back four had a difficult time. Lacey and Turner, in my opinion, looked uncomfortable on occasions and Turner had a difficult time with Tommy Wright. Didn't help that no Notts players bothered tackling any Havant player in the second half and were happy to let them run forward with the ball.

Rodrigues was good when he came on and got Notts on the front foot again, bringing the ball forward and drawing fouls. The second of them free-kicks won us the penalty. However he does need to learn how to shoot in the 18 yard box and not dribble past everyone. Nothing much to say on Jordan Barnett as he had a quiet game. Looks like he's got a decent left foot on him.

    Luke Pilling 👏👏

You can't really complain about another win and another clean sheet - it's ultimately better than playing pretty football and then dropping points due to defensive frailties. Teams that win promotion tend to be the ones that pick up "lucky" wins by the odd goal on a regular basis. If you do it enough, it's not really luck...

The plodding midfield bothers me, as does the fact that, for all our possession, we don't really do anything with it and rely on moments of individual quality (or, yesterday, a lucky cross-shot) to unlock the opposition instead. On the other hand, if you keep clean sheets - and our defensive record has been superb of late - a single chance could well be enough. Whether that's enough to compete for top spot remains to be seen.

We concede 0.76 goals a game. Torquay 0.85.

We score 1.29 goals a game. Torquay score 2.00.

That suggests that no, it won't be enough.

Stats don't mean much, they change all the time and its form which is the main thing. The win over Weymouth was a good result, it could've easily been a draw.
