Since getting into football at the age of 10, I've always had the latest England shirt. Less so in recent years. Since switching from Umbro to Nike, the designs haven't been as good as they were when they were with Umbro but also the prices have gone ridiculous for them. I think I only got the first 2 kits since they made the switch.

Over the past few years, I've started collecting retro England shirts from multiple stores all through Score Draw. Personally, I prefer the older kits to the newer ones. Can't beat a classic football shirt.

I've now managed to complete a collection. The 1990 England shirt collection is now complete. These shirts are up there as one of the greatest England shirts there have been.

In Football, especially in todays game, whenever a player breaks records or achieves great things both at club and International level they're immediately compared to players of the past but is it really fair to compare players from different eras?

Players also shouldn't be compared based on trophies their club has or hasn't won.

Type of pitches and defending styles are a factor.

Take Messi and Maradona for example. Maradona played in an era where players would hack him down and grass ripped up at his feet while dribbling yet he made it look easy. Messi on the other hand has played on much better playing surfaces and tough tackling isn't approved of much these days but the defenders have become more technical and fitter than they were back in Maradona's day.

Players and Managers that they work alongside also play a factor.

Take the Lampard, Gerrard and Scholes debate for example. Gerrard played alongside a lot lesser players than Scholes and Lampard did. Gerrard not winning the Premier League is often the go to answer for many to rule him out of the running but would he have won it had he moved to Chelsea or United? Would Lampard or Scholes won what Gerrard did had they played for Liverpool?

I'm sure we all have our own opinions on which of the 3 is better but it should be a comparison on the individual player rather than trophies won. Milan Baros won more Champions Leagues than Ibrahimovic but I wouldn't say he was better than him ????

Another player that fits into this factor is Harry Kane. Since becoming England's all time leading goalscorer he has drawn comparison to previous players like Wayne Rooney and even Jimmy Greaves. Don't get me wrong what Kane has achieved is sensational and deserves all the credit for being there to get as many goals as he has for England. Not to mention he's just the second Englishman to win a golden boot at the World Cup joining Gary Lineker.

However, Wayne Rooney played in a time where the golden generation was coming to an end, England began declining and the players being called up for England was questionable at times. Not much in terms of star quality. He played in a time that England failed to qualify for Euro 2008, had a dismal 2010 and 2014 World Cup before making his final tournament appearance at Euro 2016 which ended in humiliation against Iceland.

Then there's Jimmy Greaves. 44 goals in 57 games for England is an outstanding record but during his time the Euros was only limited to just 4 teams meaning less games for him to add to his tally.

Rooney may have more England goals had he played in todays England squad. Kane might have even been more clinical playing in Rooney's era. Greavsie could have had more England goals if there were more games available.

Player comparisons are all part of football and will always happen but there are these type of factors that play a part when comparing them.

What do you guys think? Are player comparisons subjective or do they hold credit?

So is anyone doing anything exciting this weekend? After a week of birthday celebrations, a night in a hotel in Buxton, several meals out and pub visits etc., this weekend will be quiet for me. Although having said that our son and family are coming on Saturday and we are doing a bbq, I want to try “beer can chicken” apparently you stick half a can of beer up the chickens rear end and stand it up on the bbq, the beer marinades the inside of the chicken and makes it nice and moist as it cooks. It’ll probably be a disaster. ????

I’ll do another 5k park run first though so I can have a few pints with the bbq.

Sunday nothing planned so far.

I had a soft spot for Neal Ardley he is a decent human being I hope he finds another club.

I've just received a letter from Transport for London.... Just hope we go up automatically in future.... Apparently my motor will be charged £12:50 to get to Wembley... I take it 1000s of us supporters have received the same letter

Do you have any memories of seeing a player during a past World Cup that made you think “wow”? It might not be a big name; it could be an underdog like Achraf Hakimi for Morocco or Antoine Griezmann back when he wasn’t as well-known and surprised people with how good he can be. I’m interested in seeing what members here would list as their top 5 players that stood out.

Hello everyone! Our gaffer has suggested that we all take a moment to update our profiles by adding an avatar/display picture and filling in our profile information. How many of us on here watch England games? What's your views on England Internationals or International football as whole?

From a personal point of view I always tune in to watch England no matter the opponent or the form they're in. Even though it's an endless cycle of build up hope, get disappointed, moan and repeat.

However games against lesser nations where we're expected to get a comfortable result, even though I'm watching the games, I'm not fully tuned in to the game as much as I would be if it was a more competitive game whether it be bigger opposition or a major tournament.

I get the whole "you can only beat what's infront of you" but I'd much rather be seeing more competitive matches. The competitive games grab my interest just that bit more. But as I've said, I'll always tune in no matter the opposition.

The good thing about this qualification campaign is that it's a bit more competitive than we've had in the past. There's games where we're expected to win but there are also teams that could be a banana skin and England need to be on their toes to avoid that.

Maybe it's just the fact that for years we've had easy qualification campaigns only to fail in tournaments that's made me have these sort of opinions but I feel like international football as a whole would benefit from having a more competitive format which is why I'm a fan of the Nations League as it separates teams more suited to eachother to make it more competitive.

Even though I was disappointed in England getting relegated from the Nations League, it was good for England to actually have to work to try get a result.

What do you think the club’s future prospects are now that the club has made its return to the Football League? What are your personal beliefs about the club and what it has in store for the coming seasons?

The board will probably want to get Notts into the Championship within 5 years’ time. I don’t think they will publicly say this, but they must fancy their chances of gaining yet another promotion this upcoming League Two campaign with 3 automatic spaces and one via the playoffs. Personally, I would like to know Notts are comfortable within League One. I think spending a few years establishing this so that the club can compete in the Championship has to be the ultimate plan. What are your thoughts?

I was just wondering if anyone else has a favourite seat in their home or office that they always sit in and won’t let anyone else sit in. Maybe it’s a comfy armchair in the living room or a specific spot at the kitchen table. Whatever it is, do you have a special attachment to that seat and feel like it’s ‘yours’?

Do you have a favourite seat that you won’t let anyone else sit in?

Should be a good game.

My first name is: Oliver, but you can call me Ollie.

I live in: Nottingham

I have supported Notts for: At least 24 years, I first attended Notts with my parents as a very young child.

When I visit Meadow Lane I sit in: KOP

My favourite player is: Jim O'Brien currently.

My first match was: Too young to remember.

I chose my username because: Proud to be from Nottingham, loyal to both the city and Notts County. The rest is obvious!

Everyone, we have a new member @rhodship66. Welcome to the Pride of Nottingham, do you support Notts?

“Council leader Mr Mellen apologised in the wake of the original decision not to host celebrations in the city, acknowledging it had not been the authority's "finest hour".

He said: "We accept we got it wrong by not staging an event for Notts County immediately after they secured their promotion, and we apologise again to them and their fans for that.

"It in no way diminishes how proud we are of them in securing a return back to where they belong."

The council said it was reviewing protocols for marking and celebrating significant sporting success.”

He’s dead right it wasn’t their finest hour, far from it, absolutely disgusting. I don’t blame the club for turning down a belated celebration.

I recently came across an interesting video on YouTube by Zealand, an American who makes great videos about football. Along with gaming videos, such as his Football Manager career series.

FC Heidenheim and Luton Town are two football clubs that have their own unique stories. FC Heidenheim is a more fairytale type story, while Luton Town has its own history and achievements. Both clubs have passionate fan bases and are worth following.

One for @DangerousSausage and @Piethagoram.

FC Heidenheim 1846 is a German association football club from the city of Heidenheim, Baden-Württemberg. The current day club was formed in 2007 through the separation of the football section from parent association Heidenheimer Sportbund, a larger sports club that has 5,800 members in 27 departments. The club’s origins go back to 14 August 1846, with the establishment of the gymnastics club Turngemeinde Heidenheim.

Imagine creating a time capsule for Notts County to be opened in 50 years. What items would you include to represent the club’s history, achievements, and current state? As a Notts County fan, what personal items or memories would you include?

Here’s what I would include in a Notts County time capsule. I would put last season’s home and away shirts in the capsule, along with some programs from the last 20 odd years. I would also include a picture of Jason Turner and a notebook explaining who he was and further stories about current squad members.

In addition to these items, I would also include a small Danish flag and a news clipping about the Reedtz Brothers taking over the club. As for personal items, I would include one of my PON features as a means to show my connection to Notts County.

To preserve the items in the time capsule, I would look into using airtight bags and conduct further research on how best to prevent degradation over time. I would bury the capsule in the KOP’s goalmouth, where it could be found by future generations of Notts County fans.

What items would best represent Notts County’s history and achievements? What photo of a current player or staff member would you include in the time capsule?

Fantastic news, this is from the club website:

New contract: Kyle Cameron

Captain extends Meadow Lane stay

Just now

Club captain Kyle Cameron has accepted our offer of a new two-year deal.

The 26-year-old defender was out of contract this summer after leading us to promotion at Wembley.

And our board of directors, together with head coach Luke Williams, are delighted to retain his services.

A statement reads: “Kyle has been a crucial figure for the club since his arrival two years ago.

“Not only has he had a vital role as captain, but he’s also pivotal to how we play.

“Kyle has a very unique skillset as a left-sided centre-back, being so comfortable on the ball, confident in progressing the play and consistent in delivering dangerous crosses into the box.

“He was part of a defence that conceded only 42 goals last season and, by retaining him, we ensure continuation in personnel which we hope will lead to another defensively-sound campaign.

“We also feel we can provide Kyle with the right platform and environment to continue his growth as a player and we’re excited to see how he performs over the next two seasons.”

I don’t travel to away matches these days but I wondered which ground you away travellers are most looking forward to attending and the reasons why.

Nice and friendly fans?

Great pubs nearby?

Good, pies, food etc?

Easy to get to?
